Also FAs are getting nerfed by a variety of factors, so our financial advantage doesn't mean as much. And the Cardinals are more or less set up to win 1100 games in the next decade.
The WTP is legit. His Oswing and Zswing percentages microscopically above his career averages. If he's going deeper into counts, it's probably because his Swinging Strike percentage is up to 9.7% compared to a career of 7.6%
The OBP/BB problem? Most of the problems are the legacy players, and we seem to be using those because Epstein focused most of his budget on pitching. It makes sense, even though it's annoying.
Because our pythagorean wins say we should be .500. And BP's third-order wins keeps insisting that we're even better. The starting pitching is good, the offense should be OK if the platoons keep working, and the bullpen just can't be as bad as it's performed (and had a special knack for being bad in exactly the wrong, concentrated way). I think I can keep the delusion up at least through the draft.
Maybe if he got struck by lightning, it would imbue him with either the power to be a useful defensive catcher or to put up an acceptable offensive line that doesn't depend on a .380 BABIP. Or maybe both? Does lightning strike the same place twice? I feel like that might be a thing, but I can't recall.
