  1. They lost one of these last year when they went for it on fourth down instead of taking a long field goal to extend their lead, I think it was the Denver game. The Packers' biggest play, the fingertip diving catch, came on a sell-out blitz. Eberflus doesn't always play scared, sometimes he's aggressive in these situations. No matter what he picks it seems to turn out wrong.
  2. What a cursed season. It's like a reverse 2006. I still think that it's a plausible explanation that this is a freakish run of negative variance not an inherent trait of people employed by the team, but I'm not going to die on that hill or argue with anyone who thinks it's Eberflus. We're literally a blocked FG and a hail mary defense away from being 6-4, sitting in a playoff spot and holding tiebreakers over the Commanders and Packers. Williams would be famous for already having two game-winning final-minute drives in his first 10 games in the NFL. Instead we aren't going to see a meaningful Bears game for 10 months. Too numb to it to actually watch the film breakdowns at this point, but I thought Williams looked fine but not amazing for most of the game, then bonus points for operating another successful two-minute drill. It felt like they made a conscious effort to work more horizontal and less vertical, which meshes with Williams, but it's always easier to look good when you are putting a new offense on film for the first time. His bread and butter in the NFL, the skill that makes him a franchise QB, needs to be his quick release. He showed it on the fourth and 2 play where he went through his progressions and hit his checkdown. It didn't look crazy impressive, but the release on his checkdown where he didn't need to reset his feet makes a huge difference for YAC and denying defenses a chance to close.
  3. I should be happier that Williams has shown he can repeatedly lead game-winning two-minute drills.
  4. Honestly I don't care if it's Eberflus' fault or not, he's cursed and we need to get him out of the building forever and bring in a Wamapoke expert to de-curse us.
  5. Yeah I'm out. Football is dumb anyway
  6. Alright Caleb Williams .This is your chance to be the guy.
  7. The difference in this game is that Jordan Love puts balls in places where his receivers can make insane plays, even if it means he gets some interceptions, and we've taught Williams to throw everything away to protect the ball.
  8. This feels like the game episode of Always Sunny and w'ere about to get our board game pieces stomped again.
  9. The 4th down play was great, but then he missed a wide open moore for yet another impossibly overcareful ball.
  10. It's hard to tell live what's different in the playcalling and personnel usage. We're running a way more horizontal passing attack, no deep shots mixed in that waste downs, no 3-4 verts on 3rd and long getting the QB killed. This is a "please don't lose the game rookie QB" gameplan, which is disappointing after what we saw before the bye but a relief compared to the last three weeks.
  11. They are. Williams could have avoided most of those if he were better
  12. This is the last game where a single win could return any sense of sanity or normalcy to the Bears season. The amount of goodwill a win against the Packers to get back to .500 would buy back would be hilarious. Not that I expect that to happen. Packers -5.5 feels like an insane line to me. That's the line I would have expected before the last three weeks when everything imploded. The Packers scare me more than they did at the start of the season, they just refuse to look bad. Their defense is opportunistic at creating turnovers more than any defense we've faced, this could easily be the week I get my wish about Williams throwing more INTs. The good news is that Jones and Wright were full participants in practice today, which lines them up to play Sunday. You can kick Pryor back inside and not be starting Doug Kramer. That should at least get us back to regular bad and not "9 sacks against the Patriots" bad. I'm super curious about what looks different with a new OC. Nothing would make me happier than to be proven wrong that the playcalling complaints are overstated and a new OC suddenly makes them look good. Will we see different personnel patterns? Different types of plays called? Will the veteran WRs stop looking like they'r sleepwalking? My best guess is none of that and the Bears get stomped by 20+, but my guesses haven't been worth poop outside of the Carolina game so who knows.
  13. Daniels has cooled off in general but it's hard to notice with the Bearmageddon we have going on
  14. Was it with a return designation or not?
  15. I don't care what a coach is like in the media. It's clear that the players don't respect the coaching staff behind closed doors, which is way more important.
  16. I dunno what all the different jobs are supposed to do. Maybe passing game coordinator is the guy watching film and working with the OC? You've already got a QB coach and an OC. Or maybe it's dysfunctional. Who knows?
  17. I mean congratulations for taking responsibility and shaking things up and all that, but you're still presumably starting Matt Pryor and Doug Kramer on your line so glhf
  18. I can't dismiss it at this point
  19. OK, so who wasn't doing things the right way? Who has been making mistakes and taking things easy and wasn't being held accountable?
  20. Between that and the "players asking for Bagent" report yesterday, it seems likely that there's a faction in the locker room that is anti-Williams, rightly or wrongly. Have fun fixing that on top of everything else wrong with this team.
  21. Nagy definitely got a bit of a raw deal. The fanbase was convinced that he was the only problem.
  22. We managed to get the post-Lovie veteran toxic locker room without ever getting the Lovie smith era of competence.
  23. I cannot emphasize enough how much I dislike giving late-20s football players guaranteed money when you *don't have to*. He was already under contract for a couple more years.
