  1. Uh...Post All-Star numbers: Murton --> 316/377/515 Burnitz --> 237/300/387 I think he way outperformed Burnitz. Move that qualifier and you have a true statement. How many ABs did Murton have compared to Burnitz...Yeah sit down and shut the hell up....You can say Murton had a better season but you would be god damn lying he ad like 150 AB's compared tp JB's 400 or whatever he had....So die....Good day.... Regardless of how much profanity you use, it doesn't change the fact that Murton's season was better than Burnitz. Burnitz was a nice player, but his complete lack of production in the second half was one of the factors that doomed this team to failure. And the fact that he had 400 AB's to Murton's 150 just means he had more chances to let his suckitude drag down the team.

  4. It would be completely outside the realm of my comprehension if Hendry didn't want Giles. What is there not to want? Now that Burnitz is basically gone, Patterson seems to be on the market and Hairston is really a 2b, that leaves Murton as the only outfielder. The Cubs haven't had a "good" power hitter in the heart of the line up since I can't remember. McGriff was alright, and Burnitz wasn't the worst, but a good lefty power bat like Giles tucked in between Lee and Aramis makes a very promising heart of the order. Filling the rest of the line up isn't nearly as critical as signing Giles. Agreed. Assume we sign Giles and do little to nothing else with the line-up. We'd still have a line-up of CF Hairston/ Pattersom 2b Walker 1b Lee RF Giles 3B Ramirez C Barrett LF Murton SS Cedeno Now, that line-up has some holes, but the 2-5 is solid and the bottom isn't bad. Add one more player at either SS or CF and you have an excellent line-up. Giles is the difference maker in this FA class, and I hope Hendry realizes that.
  5. http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=9660 God! I hope not. I don't see the need to give Damon a long term deal when we have Felix Pie on the rise.
  6. The Rangers don't have any interest in trading Young. They view Young, Blaylock, and Teixeira as the core they are building around. would they do it for wood, cedeno & cp? they might be building around those guys but without some better pitching they aren't going very far. rodgers was their best starter last year and besides being a psycho, he's up there in years. how is young on d btw? They might would do it for that, but they would have a hard time affording Wood's contract. I don't know if they would have much interest in Cedeno as they have some shortstops like Ian Kinsler rising through their system. While they are always in the market for pitching, they have some young prospects that a rising and on the way. Wood might interest them, but they would probably want cheaper and younger if they move one of the "core" players. My guess is if we asked for any of the three of Blaylock, Tex, or Young the Rangers would want Zambrano heading their way. That's not going to happen, so I don't see a deal working there. no way the cubs trade zambrano. i thought the owner of the rangers coveted wood at one point which is why i suggested his name. i also thought they wanted walker when he signed with the cubs last year. The Rangers probably would like Wood, but with Zambrano they would be sure of having him 3 more years. If they trade for Wood, they have him one year and then lose him or have to keep him at 14 million for another season. Wood offers them nothing beyond 2006 while the Rangers are more concerned with building for the future. They want to contend in 2006 surely, but they won't sell parts of the future club away unless the moves add rather than subtract from that core.

  9. It may be time to de-roster him in favor of another possible rule V casualty,
  10. In case there's confusion, I'm not advocating Soriano in any way. I was just posing it as a possible direction the Cubs could be going.
  11. Does TX want to dump Sori's contract?? Figured it would take at least Patterson & J. Williams. Probably more. I could see Texas being very interested in dumping Soriano. They could use the freed up money to go after pitching. The Dallas Morning News reported that they have interest in Burnett, Millwood, and Wagner. Unloading Soriano would open up room for them to pursue those players. They also have some interest in Kornerko as a DH even though they now have Nevin. Also, I know the Rangers have a desire to move Michael Young back to second if they could deal Soriano. So, I don't think the price for Soriano would be as high as many people think. Furthermore, Patterson might be a good player for Texas. They have a short leftfield porch and a favorable ballpark for hitting. Sure he'll K and have a horrible OBP, but he could hit 35-40 HRs in that park.
  12. I'll wait and pontificate when or if the player is actually named.
  13. For the record you ARE the only one bringing up Farnsworth. Vance merely labeled Lidge a gutless choking dog. Which, by the criteria put forward, applies to Lidge this post-season. And, as I pointed out, it only applies to Farnsworth. To apply it to anyone else is ridiculous. No more ridiculous than your application.
  14. It all depends in which direction they want to go. They have Connor Jackson, Carlos Quentin, Shawn Green, Luis Gonzalez and Tony Clark for 1b and the corner outfield positions. With Glaus on the books for third base, that pushes Tracy into that mix as well. They need to move someone, but it's anyone's guess what they will do. I don't think Arizona's situation gets any clearer until a GM is hired. At that point, he will have a lot of decisions to make on who stays and who goes. They could use a CF and if we're going to unload Patterson, I might guage their interest in him and see what would have to be added to him to bring a return of either Tracy or Quentin.
  15. Mike Schmidt now has interest in the Rays job. Link While Schmidt certainly will bring big name flavor to the hire, didn't he quit as manager of a Phillies minor league team because he didn't like the job? Oh well. It looks like the Rays are interviewing anyone with a pulse.
  16. Looks like Sosa's old buddy Jeff Pentland will be the new hitting coach of the Mariners. [urlhttp://www.thenewstribune.com/sports/story/5289488p-4797957c.html]Link.[/url] Would Sosa be interested in joining Pentland in Seattle as an OF/DH? Would Seattle have any interest in him?
  17. Dotel filed for free agency, and it doesn't appear that the A's are interested in re-signing him. Reports are that he'll be ready by Spring Training. It's time to make Octavio a nice incentive-laden deal to set-up Dempster.
  18. Randy Winn and Jason Schmidt's options have been picked up by the Giants. Link (registration required)
  19. Well, it looks like Giles filed because the Padres offer wasn't close. Link. A three-year offer in the 21 million range!!! No, wonder he filed. But, in the depressing news category... No mention of the Cubs there and once again, I see the Cardinals mentioned as a suitor. :(
  20. Leno, Letterman, Kimmel, Conan... No, dude, we're doing OPRAH!     What hapless moron in the Sox front office made that pathetic decision??? The Oprah is bigger than all those others... fixed
  21. Here's my thoughts: 1. Thanks for the memories, Jeromy. You're a hard-nosed ball player. Go ahead and retire. 2. I think Walker provides a real decision for Hendry. Hendry would like to improve defense up the middle, but he doesn't know what he can get in a trade or through free agency to do that. He's also been a straight shooter. Walker signed an inexspensive deal because he wanted to be a Cub. Hendry probably feels that if Walker isn't in the team's plans he should decline the option and let Walker find his own employment on his own terms. That for me is what is causing the indecsion there. 3. If Texas wants Patterson, I can see a few possibilities. a. Patterson and Mitre for Soriano if Walker is let go. b. Patterson and Mitre for Mench. c. Patterson for prospects.
  22. Not really. The Padres still have a 14 day exclusive window even though he did file.
  23. This may be of some use to you.
