Vance, I followed up day before yesteday, and nothing new about it in terms of the specific trade components. However, in approaching it a different way, the source made it pretty clear that his contacts in Florida are telling him that if Delgado is kept, Lowell and Castillo or LoDuca won't, and that after selecting their manager, first priority for LA is to get rid of Bradley. Bradley, please.

No kidding. Man if Angel could get and stay healthy that would open up a world of opportunity for the Cubs. They could trade him for a big bat difference maker. They could keep him and trade Wood/Z/Prior for significant talent. They could keep everybody and score 2 runs a game and still win more then they would lose. Oh boy, the possiblitiies. Stay healthy young man. If Angel were healthy enough to factor in the Cubs plans, he does open up a world of possibilities. I wouldn't trade him or Prior/Zambrano/Wood. But if I felt Guz was healthy, you could trade Williams, pencil Guz into the rotation and still have Hill as a back-up if needed. Also, a roster decision will have to be made on Mitre as well this spring.

Would Jerome Williams be a pitcher who would interest the A's in a deal for Zito? Hoops, any more word on whether that three-way with the Cubs, Marlins, and Dodgers with the Cubs getting Castillo, Bradley and Lowe has any legitimacy?

Excellent post. Well-stated. There is never a reason to act devoid of common decency and decorum. Every team has fans that lack it, but somehow it seems the White Sox have more than their share.

Cubs tv deals hurting themselves?

I don't think there are more Braves games on TBS. I used to look forward to the Cubs/Braves games at home, thinking that even if it was a day game, I could turn my office TV to TBS and catch the game. But I'd be lucky to get 1 out of 3 games on the network. Don't they have some sort of local TBS network that isn't the same as the national? That would be Turner South. -
And the great lord,King of the Realm Pope Grand Poohbah for Life Selig has issued his decree. The Roof will be open for all the games in Houston. This is a crock. I really hate MLB sometimes. Hopefully, some drunk Texan will spill beer on Selig tonight.

Why don't we ask the Mets to give us Cameron ($6M), Floyd ($6.5M) and Glavine ($9.5M) in a pure salary dump move for some prospects? With the $22M they save here, and the $15M freed up with Piazza as free agent, the Mets can trade for Mannys' $20M and Delgado's $16M. We fill the needs for CF, RF and a >200IP/<4.00ERA SP. And, all 3 guys we get are free agents after 2006. I like that thinking. To further entice the Mets we could offer some major league talent like Williams and Patterson. Would the Mets be interested in Williams, Patterson, Nolasco, and Ryu for Cameron, Floyd, and Glavine. The Cubs could still give Furcal a nice deal and have this line-up: SS Furcal 2b Walker 1b Lee 3b Ramirez RF Floyd C Barrett LF Murton CF Cameron With a rotation of Zambrano Prior Wood Maddux Glavine Hopefully Maddux and Glavine will find their old stuff as they play together on the golf course again. -

The roof has been closed all through the playoffs. Grand Poohbah didn't step in during the Braves or Cardinals series. He needs to get out of the way now as well.

I think the noise factor is primarily the reason the Astros want the roof closed. That place can get really loud when it is. I think that balls tend to die more when it is closed and that they fly out to left more when it is open.

As a Mavericks fan, I'd love to have Cuban as owner. While he is a bit of meddler, I believe that he would look to see what successful teams are doing and try to emulate that success with the Cubs. I don't know whether we would take an entirely sabermetric approach or follow a Braves model, but if Cuban were in charge, there would be accountability and change. Secondly, he would definitely try to acquire difference makers through free agency. All in all, I think he would be a great person to have a around. On the other hand, he's likely to piss off traditionalists, because if he's anything, it's not traditional.

The new World Series controversy now centers around the opening or closing of MMP's roof. The Astros want it closed. The Astros win more when it's closed and the park can be deafening when it is closed. During the postseason, the Astros are 4-1 with it closed. On the other hand, MLB wants it opened. Apparently, Grand Poohbah fof Life Selig has to dip his hands into this as well, and has said he alone will decide if the roof is open or closed. What's interesting is that during the season, the decision is left entirely up to the discretion of the home team. Why is MLB meddling in that decision now? They've already helped the White Sox by upholding some of the most horrendous umpiring I've ever witnessed. Shouldn't the Astros be allowed to do whatever the hell they want with their own roof? Personally, I think Grand Pohbah for Life Selig should just defer to the Astros. But we all know that he can't resist getting involved. I also don't know why he wants it open anyway. Just look at the man. He's obviously not spent much time outdoors. If I'm the Astros, I close it early in the day, and have some unnamed employee spray some kind of adhesive in the gears and make it impossible for it to be opened. What would they do then?
