  1. I agree here. The Rangers could just use Abreu in RF themselves.
  2. assuming rusch is the #5, i see a pen of ohman, 2nd lefty (jk?), wuertz, williamson & dempster leaving 1 spot open. i really dont see williams as very effective as a reliever (maybe a miracle will occur & maddux will retire-i can dream cant i) so that leaves it between jvb & novoa. i would assume 1 of them will be used in a trade and i am rooting for jvb to stick. While Novoa has had his moments, his stuff is much better than JVB. Both seem to have control issues, but I can't fathom anyway that the Cubs choose JVB over Novoa. This also assumes that the Cubs don't sign another reliever to improve the pen which I find likely that they will. You can root all you want, but I think it is not only probable, but very likely that JVB doesn't figure much into the plans of the 2006 Cubs.
  3. Assuming a six man bullpen, Dempster, Ohman, Wuertz, Novoa, and Williamson all pencil ahead of JVB. When you also factor in either Rusch or Williams (whichever isn't the fifth starter), the only hope JVB has is the Cubs have the ridiculous notion that they need a seven man pen again.
  4. Uhmm.... Nomar for right....uh no. I'm not sure who Ramarez is, but ok. We can't trade Perez as he is a free agent. I don't want Micias, Macias, or whatever you want to call him. I think with your roster, we're looking at 3rd place.
  5. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051030&content_id=1262503&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb If he continues to dominate like this, I wouldn't mind having him in the bullpen next year. the other lefty spot is open so why not? i like the idea myself. now if only the cubs would give jvb a chance in the pen. I think there are a number of options ahead of JVB in line for bullpen jobs.
  6. CERA is a much over rated stat. Offensively, Barrett was the best catcher in the NL. I think I'd rather stick with Barrett, thank-you. If having this opinion makes me a "flamer," bring on the gas can. I can handle it, I've already been asked to die once this week. What's one more?
  7. I don't know...I mean if we can sign Giles and bring back Burntiz, Murton was good, but Burnitz was still better as evident by all those extra AB's.
  8. My wife asked me to wait long enough for her to take out a larger life insurance policy on me.
  9. You're right. Dillon had a bye last week and was hurt the week before that. Barber had a bad game last week and so did Gates. I've been waiting for these guys to come around. They had to make up for a lackluster effort by Holmes and Fitzgerald. If Horn can get his act back together, I'm ready to make a run!
  10. Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow!
  11. Vance, don't the Cubs have to wait a few weeks before Hendry can begin negotiating for Giles? I thought there is a 2 week window after the WS where current teams have exclusive negotiation rights to their own FAs. :? Right. 14 days after the W.S. As soon as that window opens, though, I'd have my offer ready and pick up the phone.
  12. Excellent point. Even if the Cubs sign Furcal to a 3 or 4 year deal, Walker at 2B is only signed for one more year. Cedeno is young enough to use as a sub for a year and then take over for Walker in 2007. On the other hand, if the Cubs signed Furcal and then made a deal for Castillo I could see trading Cedeno. As it is right now, I'd have to be getting something of very high value to trade Cedeno. He isn't "untouchable", but he isn't someone I'd shop either.
  13. I can't vote either way. I think Hendry overall has done more good than bad, but I'm still in the middle. Without a middle choice, I'll pass on this poll.
  14. Had the Cubs had Giles in RF instead of Burnitz, we would have been 5th in OBP instead of 13th. That alone speaks of his value. The window is closing. I don't think we have the luxury of passing on the only impact OF because of his age. We can be fiscally responsible in fourth place or we can overpay for the player than immediately improves the line-up. I choose the later. I want Giles too but 4 years scares me. Obviously if we can get him for 3 years that would be perfect. What if the Cards offered 3/36, would you do the fourth to keep him away from them? I would. I would go ahead and offer the fourth to keep him from even thinking about other teams.
  15. Leno, Letterman, Kimmel, Conan... No, dude, we're doing OPRAH!     What hapless moron in the Sox front office made that pathetic decision??? The Oprah is bigger than all those others... fixed  You're bad... I guess you haven't seen her over the last couple of years. Forgive me if I don't make Oprah part of my viewing schedule. I guess I just remember when she wouldn't fit in a Buick.
  16. Don't take it personally if he doesn't respond to you. It's ok. I won't. I hope he's not upset that I didn't die. :P

  18. That is great news. Jim, get that 4/50 deal ready and give Mr. Vick a call.
  19. No, I don't think that does it. I'd offer 4/50. Here's the deal: 2006: 12 mil 2007: 12 mil 2008: 12 mil 2009: 12 mil 2010: 12 mil or 2 mil buyout. I honestly believe that deal puts him in to RF for the Cubs next season and we have the money to get it done.
  20. Ok...so at least one team has made a signing worse than Rusch for 2/6.
  21. Reports are that he'll be ready by Spring Training. It's time to make Octavio a nice incentive-laden deal to set-up Dempster. Wait, he just referred to himself as "O.D." Third person reference, plus stupid nickname. We need to sign this man. If he pitches as well as he did in 2003-2004 for us, he could call him King Octavio I, Ruler of the Ultra-Realms, Destroyer of Dragons, Sitteth at the Right Hand of God and I wouldn't give a damn.
  22. 2006: 12 million 2007: 12 million 2008: 12 million 2009: 12 million. 12 million option for 2010 with a 2 million buyout. Guaranteed value is 4/50, but there's the possibility for 5/60.
  23. :x :x UGH, do not like the sound of that at all.. (the bolded part) Jacque Jones or Juan Encarnacion, here we come.. bleh Then again, it's Paul Sullivan, so take it for what it's worth. Why not sign Brian Giles instead of making a trade...
