  1. I think some players do and some don't. I think, however, the Cubs interest in Furcal has been transparent. If I had to place a bet on which of the big name FA's the Cubs would sign, I'd put that money on Furcal. Also, Dempster has been lobbying for the Cubs to get Burnett. They were team mates in Florida and I think are pretty close. That being said, I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in it. Without having the context, Dempster could have been stating this based on speculation or based on something he's heard.
  2. The bad thing is that none of the interest from Giles seems to be coming from the Cubs. :x
  3. I lay terds more intelligent than Scoop Jackson.
  4. About Hampton's contract, From October 17th Braves Mail bag: It seems clear that some of the contract is covered under insurance; the only question is how much?
  5. Castillo's line this year: 301/394/374. He had a 988 F% and an 829 ZR. Walker (who I'd choose over any 2b not named Giles or Castillo):305/355/474 with a 985 and an 802 ZR. They are pretty identical at the plate. Castillo has the advantage in OBP while Walker has a good deal more slugging. Castillo's speed makes him a better lead-off option. While the defensive numbers seem to indicate that they are close, I think the gap is a bit larger than they indicate. I'd love to keep Walker, but if we can get Castillo (and especially along with Bradley and Lowe as the rumor stated) I'd jump all over that.
  6. Wow...something happened to Farnsworth's genitalia too!
  7. I never mentioned Farnsworth. I just believe the terminology should be applied fairly based on the evidence.
  8. I think Castillo would be a very big upgrade defensively over Walker.
  9. No, he won't enforce the dress code. I am now planning to put a partnership together to buy the Cubs, on a teacher's salary help from some of you I think we can do it. Any takers? If not me how about Bill Murrey (sp) If I can win the powerball, I'm in.
  10. I was listening to ESPN radio the other day and they were asking Jeff Brantley about Lidge. (And yeah, I know Brantley is mainly an idiot, but when it comes to closers, he may know something.) Anyway, he said that Lidge could have been a victim of his own stuff. When he's on, both his slider and fastball are so unhittable that he doesn't usually have to worry about locating and gets into a pattern. But if his fastball normally at 95-97 comes in at 92 in the wrong spot, he can be hit. One mistake by him, and it's a ballgame when there's only one run at stake. His mistakes just came at the wrong time. Brantley said it and I'll agree with him...there's nothing wrong with Lidge. Of course, I still believe the term for someone like him is "gutless, choking dog."
  11. If I were a mod, chaos would ensue.
  12. I don't live in Chicago, but I may move there someday, so I signed up. Last time they notified me, I was 3016 on the list. I may get to buy some around the time I retire.
  13. How cheap does Bradley come if we take Lowe as well? The words cheap and Lowe don't really mix Vance. It would be nice to see the Cubs pick up all of Lowes contract and get Bradley while hopefully not costing the Cubs an arm and a leg player wise. Then sign Giles or trade for another impact bat. I'm still holding out hope that the rumor Hoops floated about the Cubs giving up Nolasco, Walker, and a prospect for Lowe, Bradley, and Castillo comes to fruition.
  14. Right now the Cubs have the following arms to use out of the pen in addition to Dempster: Ohman, Hill, Wuertz, Wellemeyer, Novoa, Van Buren, and possibly Mitre or Williams. If they pick up his option, they also have Williamson. That's a lot of arms. Some of those guys are quality; some not so much. I think, though, that if Dotel were signed, we have enough arms until he is ready. Reports have him already throwing and saying he'll be ready in spring training. Once he's healthy, I think a bullpen of Dempster, Dotel, Williamson, Ohman, Hill, and Wuertz/Novoa could be very, very good.
  15. How cheap does Bradley come if we take Lowe as well?
  16. He'll likely get 4-5 million in arbitration for 2006.
  17. Not real enlightening but I thought some of you might find it interesting. I'm having hard time finding any good information as to what type of contact he's expecting. It should be an interesting offseason. I posted the same information in a thread in Rivalries this morning. Also, I believe I read somewhere that he is looking in the neighborhood of three years but it didn't attach a dollar amount to his expectations.
  18. Would the White Sox want Mr. Mabeline?
  19. That would be nice. Is M. Giles minus prospects or whatever the Cubs trade worth more than Walker if the Cubs don't sign B. Giles? In my opinion, yes. He brings everything Walker brings offensively and plays better defense. I guess that depends on what prospects I'm offering, but I would consider Giles a nice upgrade there.
  20. From the Braves mailbag on MLB.com: We would all be interested in Marcus Giles, but what of the other players mentioned? I wouldn't mind having either of Ramirez or Sosa as a fifth starter, and would anyone be interested in replacing Barrett with Estrada? If the Braves need to move salary, is there any way the Cubs could pry both Giles and one of Ramirez or Sosa away from them?
  21. Have fun.... I had him unblocked for the longest, but after my last exchange I no longer wanted to deal with him. I have to work with 12 and 13 year olds every day at work; I don't need to deal with someone who acts like them when I'm at home.
  22. Ok, many of us have be innundated with IM's from Jabroni AKA Aparoch. Since he can no longer troll our fine community, he makes us of the AOL IM link. So, just state your opinion here.
  23. Giles is mentioned as a target for the Redbirds in the mailbag on mlb.com. The reported makes some interesting conjecture, however. It seems to be the opinion of this writer that Giles will only be a Cardinal if it is a 2 year deal and one that isn't too highly priced. If that's the case, I can't see Giles leaving the Left Coast for St. Louis.
