I think it's highly unlikely the Dragons will post him this offseason. If they did and he hit the ground running his first season like Ichiro and Iguchi did, .290/.360/.500 sounds about right. He would definitely fill the void in CF for us then.

I don't think that deal comes close to getting it done. If Zito comes this way, Beane is going to want Hill or another pitching prospect that he might value. He'll demand Murton and then want another prospect.

Averages over their last three years in Japan: Ichiro - .362/.428/.541 Iguchi - .314/.389/.520 Hideki- .328/.454/.655 So most of the hitters you have mentioned have shown comparable success to the players who have shown success here. Thanks. What do you think the chances of getting Fukudome, and what do you project his numbers to be in the states?

1908, Just to put those numbers in perspective, what were Ichiro, Iguchi, and Hideki Matusi's numbers in their final seasons in Japan? I'd love to see the Cubs show interest in all of those pitchers. Fukudome sounds like an intriguing option if he were available as well.

If I'm recalling the trades properly: Oakland traded Tim Hudson for Dan Meyer, Juan Cruz and Charles Thomas. Then, they traded Mark Mulder for Danny Haren, Kiko Calero and Daric Barton. If Beane is consistent, ask yourself how does Rich Hill compare to Meyer and Haren; how does Sergio Mitre compare to Cruz and Calero; how does Brandon Sing compare to Thomas and Barton? I like Zito a lot too, but I would have questions about his post-season mental toughness - Hudson and Mulder didn't look great in October. I don't think Hill, Mitre, and Sing compare favorably. They have similarities, but I think the three guys we would offer each fall a little below what Oakland received in the other deals, especially when you consider the value those players were perceived to have last fall.

I think he was just in a foul mood because he isn't a big fan of going to the gym. Agreed, now if you were at an "All You Can Eat" buffet, I'm sure Ray would have said "Pass the mashed potatoes" and he would have offered to break bread with you. You sure he'd break bread and not wind? -
Could the whining in St. Louis be a result of the fact that they've been eliminated by wild card teams the past two years? I don't see a problem with a Wild Card winning it all. Does it seem strange that there's been a wild card in the past four World Series and that they've won? A little, but it isn't a problem for me. I'd personally add a wildcard play-in series. I'd have two wild cards who play one three game series to get to play the division winners. The Divisional series would start the day after the third scheduled wild card play in game. This would put the wild card team at a slight travel and rotation disadvantage. It would create one extra play-off team, but not dillute the field too much.

In today's Arizona Republic, there's an article suggesting the Diamondbacks should look at Steve Stone for GM. The writer goes on to admit that Stone isn't being seriously considered, but he raises the idea of Stoney being the GM of the Diamondbacks. I don't know whether Stone would be a good GM or not. I'd like to watch him try, just to see if he could. The article also chronicles Stone's attempt to become GM of the Cubs. The Cubs have never had interest in letting Stone run the team. We know this much. I bet Kerry Wood, Kent Mercker, or Moises Alou would never play for a team run by Stone. :lol:

ESPN has an article that discusses a possible Beltran for Manny trade that could have happened at the deadline. In that article, it states that Manny would not have agreed to go to the Mets. This adds some intrigue to those that believe Ramirez will be traded to the Mets this offseason. Furthermore, the article goes on to list destinations that Manny would consider. I'm dissapointed Chicago isn't on the list. :(

On the other hand, Murphy is not a HOF. He was a very good player that just doesn't quite reach HOF status. He has a career .265 avg, which in my opinion falls way short of HOF status. His career OPS is good, but not HOF worthy. -

Here are the hitters most comparable to Larry Walker: Duke Snider (892) * Ellis Burks (878) Joe DiMaggio (870) * Johnny Mize (861) * Frank Thomas (849) Chuck Klein (842) * Manny Ramirez (841) Edgar Martinez (837) Bob Johnson (837) Luis Gonzalez (834) There's some nice hitters on that list. I'm borderline on Walker's HOF candidacy. On face value, the numbers look pretty good. He does have an MVP and a very nice time BA. I could probably be presuaded to accpet him as a HOF, but I'm not sold on him. -
the yankees and red sox tied this year, didn't they? I would imagine boston would have a prayer. anyway, I think most of us agree that a new revenue system is needed. Colorado belongs with Arizona, Kansas City, Texas . . .teams like that. I think your best bet is to shake up the AL and NL. Tampa belongs with Florida and Atlanta and charlotte. Baseball will never be able to redo the revenue system, because the players and the union would have a collective fit and strike. I think the union might agree to some concessions if expansion came along with it. Adding two teams would add 50 new major league level jobs.

How is A-rod a better fantasy player? Pujols has nearly 100 points of OPS over him, over the last 3 years. Pujols is a better baserunner than A-rod, also. Pujols regularly is among the league leaders in runs scored, and was a more successful base stealer than A-rod in 2005. Unless you place ALOT of value on A-rod's defense at third base, then Pujols is easily the best player. Furthermore, he's younger and his contract isn't an albatross. In fantasy, you usually get points for number of stolen bases and not rates. OPS isn't a category in many traditional roto leagues. Position scarcity is a big issue in fantasy leagues.

I'm for adding a second wild card team in each league. The two wild cards play a best of three series in the city of the wild card with the best record. That team advances to the postseason along with the divisional winners in the current format. That would require the wildcards to play an extra series and also allow baseball to collect a little more postseason revenue. It would open up two more teams (one in each league) that could claim they made the post season.

Link There's nothing substantive here, except that Murton hopes to prove with his performance in the AFL that he can handle a starting job. So far, so good. He's hitting .480 there. Murton better be our starting LF on Opening Day.

I'd be for adding two more teams, but along with expansion there needs to come greater revenue sharing. I think in the long run, expansion could be healthy for baseball. If you placed teams in markets that are not located geographically to other teams, you help connect people to the game that may have only a passing interest. I think the following markets could handle a team: 1. Las Vegas 2. Charlotte, NC 3. Portland, OR 4. New Jersey
