  1. I think this move puts us over the top. top of what? the brewers? top half of the division...hopefully.
  2. Wasn't it just noted that he had the same injury as both Morris and Carpenter? To say he'll never stay healthy really makes no sense. You do realize that this is his 2nd surgery in the last 2 1/2 years right? I guess maybe that's why I said he'll never be healthy, as a starter. Oh, that and his delivery is atrocious, unlike Morris's and Carpenter's. He never had a shoulder surgery when they first found the tear. The doctors told him that it would heal enough with rest and that he didn't need the surgery, so he sat out the 2nd half of 2004 with the Astros and rested the shoulder. He pitched for a couple months with the Red Sox and the tear became a problem again so he had the surgery.
  3. Plus isn't Bengie Molina 33 or something around there? For a catcher that's pretty old. There has to be a reason he's not getting any love on the free agent market. He's demanding 6M a year and threatening to sit out a year if he can't find a suitable offer. That's an dumb move on his part. Does he really think his value will go up after sitting out a year and being a year older? You gotta take what you can get.
  4. Agreed. I'm a big fan on the deal. Give him a chance to recover and see what he's got after that. If he doesn't work out it's only $1 million. Much paying him a $1 million and him turn into a bust instead of paying the same to a macias-type player.

  6. Fox always had problems with his elbow. Miller had a torn labrum. Didn't Miller have the same surgery that Wood had or Matt Morris had the year before?
  7. Reds' fans are dancing in the streets.
  8. The article also says the Red Sox are about to sign Agonz II to a deal to play SS for them. That would make Lugo cheaper if Hendry was still going after him.
  9. Olney was on ESPN talking about the Benson trade and said the Mets might sign Weaver to a 1-year deal.
  10. Julie went ballplayer hunting, as I am out in LV. She tells me that while at the bar he was totally smashed, and that he repeatedly mentioned how with Dempsters new deal he was stuck behind him fo the closer's role. ...and the rest of the bullpen. Maybe if he could throw more than just a slider he might be able to be a closer.
  11. If you look at the top right of the main index forum you'll see something that says "view unanswered posts". This is the function you're looking for. Unfortunately, it's not working right now because the search function is still disabled. But when the search function is back and working you can click on that link to view the posts that were quoted.
  12. At least the guy last year could run after a flyball without blowing out a hammy or something.
  13. Quite a soap opera going on in Beantown these days.
  14. Is Arroyo really that good though? I think he's completely replacable, and no better than Jerome Williams. His unimpressive major league numbers are more or less in-line with his equally blah minor league stats. I don't see him turning into much more than a mediocre innings eater. Baseballreference.com compares him closely to Harang and Harkey, not exactly solid company. Now, Griffey has his own issues, but I wouldn't go as far as saying he can't play CF anymore, and Boston needs a CF. But is Griffery worth the contract that he has for 3 more years? Of course you could say it doesn't really matter to the Red Sox since they have money coming out their ears. And I didn't say he couldn't play CF. He just doesn't play it very well anymore. With Manny probably going to be in left and Nixon in right, that is one atrocious outfield defense.
  15. I don't know what else would be involved, but giving up a decent pitcher who is signing a very good 3-year contract with you for an over-the-hill CF who can't really play CF well anymore doesn't make much sense to me. Griffey can put up the offensive numbers, but that's if he stays healthy. He hasn't done that much lately. The CF market must really have dried up. Guess Reed and Crisp are costing way too much.
  16. Has anyone heard this, or should we file this in the crazy trade rumor guy category?
  17. Is Von Joshua with Iowa now? He's still in the system, right?
  18. How do you suggest a team go out and acquire more clutch hitting? Well, first we need to get Alou back because he's the clutchest of all clutch hitters.
  19. You beat me to it. This is absolutely great news. Best news we've had in a while.
  20. This time of year is so boring. No news at all. Give me a trade or something already.
  21. Thanks for the heads up. It will be interesting to see what's going on.
  22. Prior might have wound up on the South Side if traded to Baltimore? Daily Southtown Could you imagine the ramifications if Prior landed on the South Side? Hendry would have been killed.
  23. Why? Might as well put Neifi at SS if that's the case. We don't need Agonz Part II on the team.
  24. God we needed that. Hold em defense and let's go to halftime.
