  1. The Redskins offense is pathetic. Gain a yard or two for crying out loud.
  2. Alexander just got his bell rung and is seeing stars. If he's out that really hurts the Seahawks.
  3. He was born in California. Do the Dutch have a team? I have a Dutch heritage and am thinking about playing for them.
  4. A little snippet from Buster Olney's blog: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=olney_buster#20060113 Don't know if that's his opinion or if this is what he heard. Still a scary thought.
  5. ZZ Top is gonna play for the Cubs?
  6. I'm sure he'll progress his pitch count very slowly as the year goes on. Yep, when we're out of it by August he should almost be ready to start.
  7. Didn't hear it. What was said? Was it Treebeard? :D
  8. I wonder if Hendry ran to check if he included the no-OBP talk clause in Pierre's contract talk. It's amazing hearing those three little letters from someone on the Cubs, isn't it? I didn't think it was possible.
  9. It doesn't count if the guy just hit a game-winning homer, or a guy not named Moised Alou made a base-running error...
  10. Wow. Dusty is in full-form. You could get a good blooper reel from the crap he's saying tonight.
  11. Would you rather sign Lugo long-term or have the 1st round draft pick after offering him arbitration?
  12. I agree with you there. I'd much rather trade Walker + Hill for Lugo. I think Williams will be our third best starter this year. Seconded. Would much rather trade Hill than Williams. Plus, I think you could get a better prospect coming back by trading Hill since his trade value seems to be through the roof right now. Hendry needs to include Hill in a trade this offseason. Sell high for once.
  13. Don't forget the draft picks we'd get next year for Lugo if we don't re-sign him. The Cubs would definitely offer arbitration. Let's just hope that if a trade goes through that the Cubs don't try to sign Lugo to a long-term deal.
  14. Rotoworld: Either they're stockpiling bullpen arms, or one of their bullpen guys is going somewhere in a trade soon...
  15. I really wish I could be there for that Q&A with management again. I get annoyed greatly by the ass kissing questions. Glad that last year that was kept to a minimum. Hope the grill session is on. Didn't Cubs.com put up the Q & A from last year's convention on their website a while after the convention? I remember listening to it last year online. Hopefully it will be the same this year. Also, NSBB members were very good about giving us the scoop last year. Hopefully the people going will let us know how bad Hendry gets grilled.
  16. time for another post by jjgman that gets mistaken for supporting Hendry, when it is really just an attack on a bs argument used to support someone else's position. on the bolded part above. nonesense. neither the Cardinals or Astros had big injury problems in 2003. the grand sum of their impact injuries were Cardinals - Vina replaced by the two month wonder, Bo Hart. Drew replaced by Eduardo Perez's 122 OPS+, Morris missing about 6 starts. Astros - Kent missed about 25 games, Oswalt missed about 12 starts. certainly not coming close to approaching the injury problems the Cubs went through in 2004-2005. if you want to excuse the Cardinals and Astros performance in 2003 due to injuries, you should bow down to Baker and Hendry for the Cubs doing what they did in 2004-2005. Okay. I should have made my point differently. We made it to the playoffs by winning 89 games in 2003. If we were in the NL East or NL West we wouldn't have made the playoffs. We won the Central division on a down year. I'll give you most of 2004, but down the stretch the team was healthy and choked. We won 79 games last year. Injuries or not, that's pathetic for a team with one of the highest payrolls in baseball.
  17. Why do these guys deserve extensions? For netting us 4th place last year? For getting lucky 3 seasons ago that the Cardinals and Astros had big injury problems, and making it to the playoffs? How about making Hendry and Dusty show they are worthy of a contract extension before just handing them out. This organization drives me nuts sometimes.
  18. I didn't say it would be a smart or fiscally responsible thing to do, but we're only what 8 weeks or so from the start of spring training and Boston has NOBODY to play CF, no leadoff hitter and a utility guy pegged to start at SS - I honestly don't see them going into the season with Cora slated to be there every day. They've got TONS of pressure on them right now with what the Blue Jays and Yankees have done to improve themselves - not to mention the controversy around losing their GM. Lugo would fill 2 of their 3 holes at leadoff and SS and at least give them a fighting chance in their division. If they don't make the move to get Lugo, I see them being a 3rd or 4th place team in that division - even with Lugo they have plenty more question marks than they've had the last few years. There's no GM in baseball who's going to basically pay $16 million for 1 year of Lugo. They have a young kid in Pedroia who could get a chance to win the spot in spring training. He was basically blocked by Ramirez, so they moved him over to 2b. Their hole at SS is not nearly as big as the hole they have in CF.
  19. Okay, so the Red Sox trade Renteria and $11 million to the Braves for Marte. Then they trade Marte to the Devil Rays for Lugo and his $5 million contract? So basically they're paying $16 million for a 1-year rental in Lugo? I don't see the Red Sox trading Marte for Lugo.
  20. Already a thread discussing this Premium Forum
  21. Thank god. If he isn't traded to the Cubs keep him far away from the NL Central.
  22. Taken with a huge grain of salt of course. Reported by Offman from the Score that the Cubs and Boston are in the mix for Lugo.
