  1. Yea, but Hedey was the bad guy, so it doesn't count.
  2. How did Woody handle it??
  3. Outstanding and depressing work. It's going to be a long time before DeRo gets bumped from my top ten favorite Cubs of all time. I was really hoping to see Soriano's walkoff single to center against Colorado from June of 07. DeRosa had nothing to do with that play, but he still makes the clip a classic the way he's running onto the field before Hill ever crossed the plate. Yea, Cleveland is definitely my second favorite team this year. :(
  4. Pick me! Pick me!
  5. Only if Matt Stairs decides that Hendry's offer of 3/19 was a lowball and holds out for more.
  6. Just got home. I took a little solace in the vikes winning, but the oakland philly double upset is actually happening. what a pitful showing. those idoit sderserve to sit home abnd watch the playoffs go by. choking goats and their no show pathetic defense. freaking terrible.
  7. If the unlikely scenarios placing the Bears in the playoffs don't happen, the Lions had better compensate by going 0-16. (Though, that would mean I'm rooting for the Packers when their win would not benefit the Bears in any way  )
  8. A friend of mine has the DirecTV package, and he also happens to be a Houston fan. I'll be over there, praying that either the Bears or the Vikings win. If both the Giants and the Texans win, he is going to be absolutely insufferable for the entirety of the next twelve months. (He still doesn't let me forget about the Stros sweeping the Cubs in August, despite the much obvious bigger picture, simply because he and I happened to catch a couple of those games together.) Here's hoping for something good. Have fun today everyone!
  9. My granny lived on Addison Street about three miles up from Wrigley, and she made it tradition to have my brothers and me come in from suburbia to visit on our birthday weekends. My birthday was in August, and her side of the family was the biggest influence on my being a Cubs fan, so the weekend centered more on which weekend the Cubs were in town than on when my birthday was. (One brother's bday is also August, and one's is February. Not coincidentally, the February brother is the least enthusiastic Cubs fan of the trio.) Going to Cubs games with her was always the highlight of my summers growing up, and they were the only games I ever got to attend throughout childhood.
  10. My favorite Cubs game ever attended was 4th row behind home plate at Pac Bell, to watch Marquis v Lincecum. Lincecum cruised through 8 shutout innings (I don't remember if it was 2 hits or 4, but he was as solid as he's ever been), and Marquis only gave up a single early run. Cubs broke through on Lincecum in the 9th, lit up the bullpen, won 5-1 on what I thought would be a sure waste of the best seats I'll ever have for a Cubs game. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/cubbybear314/Cubs-Giants%2007/02cropBonds.jpg But no, I wouldn't miss him.
  11. Answer to both questions is, not gonna happen. He was always quality with the Cubs, but without a doubt his greatest years (to include WS ring) were with Atlanta. Easily belongs in the discussion of best all time. What an amazing career.
  12. A baseball organization posts a nostalgia story during the off-season about an exciting win. How laughable.
  13. I was so pumped in 07 when he came back and actually stayed healthy. Soccer and I got to see him pitch in what I think was his second or third appearance, out in SF. His showing in the 03 playoffs was nothing short of epic, even considering getting roughed up on the mound in game 7. I've been a staunch cubs fan my whole life, but the day i became a helplessly obsessed fan was May 6th, 98. This sucks :(
  14. I'll be shocked if this trade is either done or unequivocally removed from the table before PCR. I'll check back in 200 pages.
  15. There might be an outside chance he doesn't wear a Braves hat, assuming they're giving players the choice by then. Even so, still the Braves.
  16. For some reason, I find this picture funnier when I picture that the beer in front of the large headless blue shirt is actually being held by the guy in front of him.
  17. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/cubbybear314/BartmanUndone.bmp The greatest photo never taken in baseball history.
  18. I made it a point to wear the hat the day after it all ended, but it's only been a handful of times since. I'm sure the hoodie will see a lot of time starting within the next week or two.
  19. While the bitter Cubs fan in me would take it as another kick in the nuts, I would definitely enjoy seeing yet another truly solid case against the idea of veteran presence and leadership and knowing what it takes to win and all the other tired cliches which draw out the relevance of players and coaches longer than they deserve. Either that or we'll hear all about how Cliff Floyd's veteran presence was the X-factor to their season.
  20. I would love to see Prior have ridiculous success, and I would love for the sixth consecutive off-season of optimism to finally be the one that isn't misguided. I would also like to see this happy ending occur with an American League ball club. Or with DBR.
  21. I've never cared about hockey and have never had an allegiance to any team. Today I went to the pre-season finale between the Caps and Bruins in DC, and I am now officially a Caps fan. The game was intense, the crowd was fun, the action was good, there was a Guinness/Smithwick's/Harp booth right outside my seats, and this team will never ever be able to hurt me the way the Cubs just did. I'm sold. Sorry, I know it's the blackhawks thread - not trying to troll. Just new to hockey. Speaking of which, I have a few questions: Has overtime always been reduced to 4 on 4? Has penalty box time always ended if the power play team scores a goal? I could have sworn Nylander still had 36 seconds left in the box, and when the Bruins scored he was back on the ice. Is this a rule change? When did it happen? Do they still do multiple overtimes in the regular season or post-season, or do they always go to penalty shots after the first overtime?
  22. Derrek Lee has been a playoff hero. So has Jim Edmonds. Kerry Wood. Aramis Ramirez. You want to get rid of the chokers, it's the organization, the city, the uniform, curse, whatever. The 96 Yankees would have gotten swept this year if they were wearing a Cubs uniform. Accept it.
  23. After last season, I should know better than to be out in public for elimination day, but I'll be heading to the sports bar down the street. They have Smithwick's and Yeungling (sp) on tap, and that's what really counts. Except they were out of BOTH last time I went. I wouldn't even consider returning for that fact alone, but the sports bar situation in Annapolis is truly pathetic.
  24. Maybe we should be the Holy Cubs or something. I'll take Devil Cubs if that's the route to the WS.
