  1. Record GB Win Pct 1. Twins 18-37 -- .327 2. Astros 23-34 4 .404 3. Padres 24-33 5 .421 4. Cobs 23-31 5.5 .426 5. Nats 25-31 6.5 .446 5. Royals 25-31 6.5 .446 Updated for the off day. Padres took sole possession of third, but the Cubs gained ground on everyone else.
  2. If a post doesn't warrant a respectful reply, it doesn't warrant a reply at all. Don't validate the dumb repetitive arguments by taking the time to reply to them.
  3. I sorta remember seeing somewhere that this is due to Silva not being on the team. Like it isn't reported in the final totals but the Cubs technically are higher I think. Yea, I don't get the point of creating a payroll list like the one I linked if it doesn't include ALL of the money the team is spending on players that year. I guess that means the list isn't counting the money the Mets spend every year on Saberhagen and Bonilla either. Dumb. I'm glad I read these posts before I added the payroll and projected dollars per win categories to the FLS.
  4. I sorta remember seeing somewhere that this is due to Silva not being on the team. Like it isn't reported in the final totals but the Cubs technically are higher I think. Those opening day payroll lists are so dumb. They don't take into account contracts that have been eaten, nor mid-season trades that add or subtract payroll to teams, in order to actually compare what the team spends on players. I wasn't aware of any of those omissions. $125MM sounded low, but I just figured I thought so because I don't follow payroll numbers very closely. Where is a better spot to find payroll info?
  5. If he didn't want to fuel the fire, he didn't have to entertain the question in the first place. I think this is essentially what he did. Blaming it on injuries is as thoughtless as any other vague response to a question you know you don't want to answer. The difference is that you and Rosenbloom think it is some reflection on how he will run the franchise. It was a bland response to a baited question. That's all. It's early in his ownership and Ricketts had some BS contracts that preceded him. Let's see how things play out. Piling on right now is completely reactionary. Thinking he had some grand scheme to torpedo this season is insane. It's a fair point to say that he was going for the vague response, and the brevity of time he spent with the media supports that, but it's still a pretty direct way of saying that this team would be fine without the injuries. I never said it's an indicator of how he will run the franchise. It's an indicator that he isn't in touch with the team's current problems. It could also be an easy way to avoid addressing issues that I'm sure he has no desire to address to the media ever, much less at this point in the season. If that's what he was going for, then it will prove to just be another drop in the bucket for this season.
  6. I hope Phil Rogers writes an article supporting my viewpoint on sports, that'll show you all! People agree with the idea that Ricketts came off as either a complete idiot or someone who takes the fans and media for idiots. That doesn't equate to thinking the article was tolerable, clever, or well-written, nor does it equate to anyone's endorsement of Rosenbloom as an intelligent beat writer. Finding these statements to be accurate or insightful does not equate to supporting genocide.
  7. If he didn't want to fuel the fire, he didn't have to entertain the question in the first place. He also could have given the standard vague doubletalk about how solving problems won't happen overnight but he's constantly active in seeking ways to make this team better. Chalking it up to injuries was stupid, and it absolutely warrants the response he got in that article.
  8. Just for good measure, here's a link to 2011 MLB payroll by team, which shows the 3rd worst team sporting the 6th-highest payroll. Also, I wasn't aware the White Sox's payroll is higher than the Cubs'. ETA - I also didn't realize that the Twins' payroll is so high.
  9. Is it too early to start tracking the fecal league standings? Since we just got swept by one of the TWO teams still behind (ahead of) us, I think not. Record GB Win Pct 1. Twins 17-37 -- .315 2. Astros 22-34 4 .393 3. Cobs 23-31 6 .426 3. Padres 24-32 6 .429 5. Nats 24-31 6.5 .436
  10. My trip to AT&T Park this August might get bumped up a couple weeks so I can see Philadelphia come to town instead.
  11. As much as it nauseates me to say it, I think I side with Hawk. In a blowout, players should dial back the intensity to the point that they are capable of confining their frustrations within lesser theatrics. If personal stats are supposed to be less important than team victory, then there should be nothing to get so worked up over. The frustration should have more resemblance to an unproductive BP session rather than popping up with a runner on 3rd and 1 out in the 7th inning of a tie game. Granted, in this case, it was the 4th inning, so there was way too much baseball remaining for a 7-run-lead to be considered a surefire blowout. (I guess that means I only partially agree with Hawk, but that doesn't make me feel any better about it.)
  12. Cubs are apparently expecting a 15-20 minute delay to the start of this one.
  13. No thread up yet. I'll get this show on the road, as I know how excited we all are about watching the Cubs this afternoon. http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/525x330/alt/285079.jpg R.A. Dickey (2-5, 4.71 ERA) http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/players/525x330/407296.jpg Z (4-2, 4.88 ERA) Go Cobs. At least they'll be done playing before the Bulls are on this time.
  14. Casey got lit up hard, but don't let Ball Twelve off the hook.
  15. So glad to see Dempster with another solid start. This season will be much more bearable if he's done getting lit up.
  16. Looks like Wells is going to start Saturday. Just in time for Garza to go on the DL.
  17. I don't care enough to check whether or not the standings are all updated for Monday's games yet or not, but as of right now, only the Astros, Padres, Dodgers, and Twins have lower winning percentages than the Cubs.
  18. No, but I can hate their crap announcers, I can hate the fact that they're only SD here, and I can hate the fact that when they air a game that happens to not be on in my area, there are zero options for me to watch it (though that one is also on mlb for allowing it in the first place).
  19. Fox here is showing Giants-A's. I hate fox.
  20. Buckner was beyond awful. I spent a couple innings on the Boston broadcast. Also, WTF was with Pedroia and Youklis getting all worked up and angry in the 8th inning after being the last two outs? Pedroia went down swinging with the score 14-5, and he was yelling obscenities all the way back to the dugout. Youklis was a little more toned down about ending the inning on a 410-foot flyball to center. "Pedroia wears his heart on his sleeve." Too bad his heart is a douchebag.
  21. I'm surprised Quade left Pena so high up in the order against a lefty. I'm all about a Cubs sweep bringing back a little of that first week panic for Boston. :pig:
  22. They both whine too much about people pooping in their spot on the dugout steps.
  23. Updated the subject. Didn't see any details on the deal other than it's a minor league deal.
  24. from Rotoworld Unless the organization has a serious lack of optimism with Wells's recovery, this seems redundant with Doug Davis already around. Also, I would rather keep trotting Coleman out there and hope he figures it out than go down this road.
