  1. If that makes you sleep better at night....have at it. They might exit early but they're on their way to another division championship and we'll be relegated to wildcard status: IF Jed can make a couple good moves. If not, we'll fade similarly to last season and miss the playoffs again. Clock is ticking.
  2. He's awful these days. Most other guys would be DFA'd but I guess he's making too much money. Huge game tomorrow. Win and leave town down 1....no big panic. Lose and leave town down 3: no bueno.
  3. Nothing really new there. He is the main reason (along with Hodge's health) that Hoyer needs to trade for a reliever and soon.
  4. Gimme a break....they aren't "in their head'' whatsoever. Just playing better baseball than the Cubs right now, and are the better team. Proof is in the pudding: no excuses. Good news is JH has a shot to make us better the next 48 hours. He needs to get to work.
  5. Brewers just a little better right now overall, which is what I said in here a week ago and got roundly criticized by a few of you...Jed needs to get busy in the next 48 hours. Not a serious contender presently. Need to salvage one tomorrow to avoid the sweep
  6. Hmmmm.....very interesting indeed. As for Suarez and Kelly, they are both rentals correct? I hate the idea of giving up top prospects for two guys probably won't re-sign for '26
  7. I couldn't agree more. Sellers are totally in the driver's seat right now and although I've been critical of Hoyer in the past, I can't complain about him this time around. It's been reported that teams are asking astronomical prices, specifically for starting pitchers who are under control for multiple years. Also, I've never been a fan of rentals like Suarez who probably won't re-sign with us next season. WOTS is we won't give up any top prospects for a rental....sure hope not.
  8. Well said cl smooth. I just spent the afternoon with my Dad and he's in the late stages of prostate cancer as well. But he's 80 and has lived a pretty full life unlike Sandberg who was only 65. However, I'm gonna miss the hell out of my Dad and took this summer off work (teaching) to spend more time with him. My favorite memory of Ryno is getting an autographed picture of him signed in 1994 at the Cubs Convention in Chicago. He was soft spoken, classy and larger than life in my eyes. RIP Ryno: you fought the good fight.
  9. Very accurate and fair post. I've seen most all his starts and he's a solid, BOR innings eater pretty much. Slot him in at 4/5 in your rotation and let him go. Very durable until this season.
  10. Some really good posts in this thread and since joining this board I've kinda seen the light with regard to Jed and the job he's done. He's been solid overall and the biggest complaint I have (Schwarber all day long) really wasn't his call from everything I can tell. Seriously doubt he wanted to break up the '16 core but decisions that big weren't his to make quite obviously. I guess TR had a come to Jesus moment and decided to sign him before the deadline to free Jed up in terms of potential deal making. Certainly won't hurt his leverage and hopefully will help it. Now get it done man: 1 starter, 1 reliever and 1 good bench option.
  11. He's an injury waiting to happen IMHO....hard pass
  12. Unreal to me that KC gave a guy who's soon to be 35 years old that kind of extension....jebus
  13. So who else do you think would have to be added to those 3? Shaw maybe? If so....that's too much.
  14. I'm sure the Nats want Caissie and Wiggins as the tweet suggests....big price to pay but Gore is a stud so we'll see
  15. I think you are correct: they do like him and trust that their pitch lab can get more out of him which is entirely possible. Jed was QUOTED about 2 weeks ago saying they are looking at guys who might have negative overall numbers but their talent level can be tapped by the Cubs. My gut tells me if they can't land Gore (cost will be steep and it's a bit of a long shot) then this could be their fall back option. I'm not sold on either Cabrera (elbow acting up lately) or Alcantara who is just having a bad year. I do acknowledge that Alcantara fits the mold of what Jed was talking about. I found it: "Hoyer has hinted at the possibility of acquiring pitchers who may be available due to struggles with their current teams, but who could potentially benefit from a change of scenery and contribute to the Cubs"
  16. I agree with you for the most part, but what about his elbow? Creaky lately and a concern IMO
  17. Hard to argue your point BUT...he's capable of putting together a solid start: he's done it before. That said, I'd guess this is his last start of the season barring more injuries. Fully expect Jed to add a starter in the next 72 hours or less which would then relegate young Brown to the bull pen.
  18. Amen to that. Really liked Mike and also wish he was still on the team. Palatine pounder....
  19. Meh....look at the bright side, if he gets in trouble I'd think Craig would have a very short leash
  20. Horton is NICE guys....we've got a good one and you can slot him in for next season too. But I do have to ask...what kind of innings count will he have this season? Still a long way to go. TIA
  21. Had a family get together tonight and missed the whole game luckily. Well, at least the Brewers lost but starting to seriously doubt that our Cubs are serious contenders guys. Too many holes and inconsistencies. Kinda hope they don't trade our talented kids in Iowa. Tucker isn't gonna sign here IMO and we can potentially plug Caissie in to share RF with Suzuki.
  22. I don't get it regarding Alcantara...dude is really struggling this season. What am I missing?
  23. Respect your opinion Rcal but don't agree with it. Those Marlins starters are overrated IMHO. One with a tricky elbow and the other underperforming...do not want either. I'd be really bummed if we traded our top prospect (Caissie) for either one.
