That's a wrap pretty much....Brewers on their way to a win as well. Lead down to 2.5 games after tonight. Big weekend series win and a day off followed by nothing offensively. Seen that before.
Yeah, he's been on my horsefeathers list for quite some time. He's really slowed down in all aspects....running, hitting, defense is still decent I guess. Just looks tired frankly. Off day tomorrow and he needs it.
You are 100% correct BUT for selfish reasons I"m glad they're gonna get a nice break to re-charge their batteries for the 2nd half. Both have exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds. Along with PCA, they're the best hitters on the club
I generally agree with you (in principle) but the fact is this was on Keller. He allowed 5 earned runs in the 8th inning. 4 RBI's via the two homers by Burleson and Pozo...they hit it further than their combined weight. Fat boys can slug. Keller was brutal but like I said earlier, he wasn't gonna be perfect all year: nobody is. Pomeranz was touched up today too albeit not near as much. On to Sunday....
I thought Dansby's was a little off the end of the bat and I also thought Kelly's was gone so yeah, one of the worst losses of the season really. New day tomorrow thankfully.
PS- GO MARLINS
It's gonna keep SL and MIL right in it until we get an arm or two toa take the ball every 5 days. I'd like to see Hoyer act now and not at the deadline but OTOH we all know how much teams will try to hold him up in that scenario.
Nice inning by Hodge...wish he would a pitched the 8th and Palencia the 9th but I understand why it didn't go down that way. Keller has been much better than Porter all year long.
Absolutely all on Keller. Everyone else was more than serviceable on a hot, windy day. Like I said, he wasn't gonna go through the whole season pitching like he has and every reliever has these kinds of outings. Hopefully it's a one off for him
Keller picked today to have NOTHING out there. Only bad game he's had all year and it's gonna cost us a W. Burleson and Pozo combined for about 1000 feet on their homers and as I type this Ian whiffs again. He needs a day or two off...just horrible.
Good LORD Kelly is a professional hitter fellas.....sat on that curve ball and mashed it. Matz and his catcher got cute and paid for it. His fastball is deadly. Cubs haven't done anything with it. His breaking balls are mediocre at best.
Gorman is NOT a good hitter (.213 avg.) but when you throw a meat ball like that, he can time it up and lay waste to it. He needs to shelve that lazy curve for a while.
Shaw with another rocket....SMDH. As for Ian, he's all the way down to .233. Give the guy a day off Craig. He looks fatigued. Just caught a break on 3-2..ump squeezing him.
At least they're making Liberatore work today. It's hot and he's at 40+ pitches already.
I hate the whole 'opener' BS. Pomeranz has done OK with it this year but the Cards are seeing blood after yesterday's humiliation. I don't like Wicks that much either but at least he's a starting pitcher fer crissakes, now we're down two already due to Pomeranz's worst outing of the year. We need to be more patient with Liberatore today and let him get his pitch count up where they have to go to the pen by the 5th/6th
Couldn't agree more, sure would be nice to beat other contenders like the Tigers and Yanks who have similar needs to the punch. I just had that discussion on a Tigers message board (they're my 2nd favorite team) Tigers looking for a starter, a reliever and a right handed bat....similar to the Cubs needs.
That's fair I guess JR...I'm just going off how bad he was today which is probably short sighted on my part. Didn't know the Phils D was that bad. Now I do.
