  1. I'm with you 55....we all knew another starter was needed BEFORE Tallion's injury. Could absolutely use 2 now. Might not be realistic, but we'll hopefully see sooner rather than later
  2. Here's hoping that he can put it together. It's not like he hasn't had some success in MLB. Looked good to start his career obviously, before injuries derailed him. Speaking of starting pitchers and injuries, I'm watching the Phils/Reds and Cinci just chased Jesus Luzardo after only two innings. He gave up 6 earned runs and looked brutal doing it. As you all know, we had a deal in place for him before his medical records scared us off. Dodged a big bullet gents, his ERA was 4.06 before imploding today: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6310063/2025/04/25/jesus-luzardo-phillies-cubs-marlins-trade-medical/
  3. So we should get back Assad in early August and Taillon maybe by mid Aug. hopefully. Gotta tread water until then I guess, although this obviously makes a move for a starter even more urgent now. We've got Shota/Boyd/Horton anchoring T.O.R. right now which is solid actually. Rae is 4th for better or worse and Wicks is 5th and people more knowledgeable than me on here have said Wicks has looked good in Iowa, especially lately. There are PLENTY of teams pretty much out of the race right now that Hoyer can deal with. Doubt we can afford to wait until the deadline. Might pay more of a premium but so be it I guess
  4. More bad news on the injury front as some of you have heard by now. Taillon to the IL with a right calf strain, Wicks recalled from Iowa. Counsell said it'll be a month or so but at least it's not an arm issue. Really need a starter or two now at the trade deadline.
  5. I'm not a fan of Alcantara for various reasons. I like Lugo a lot but only if the price is right obviously.
  6. Yep, he's an Aussie: The Seattle Mariners' color commentator from Australia is Ryan Rowland-Smith. He is a former Major League pitcher who now works as an analyst for the MLB Network and the Seattle Mariners, also hosting the team's weekly show, "The Top Step". Rowland-Smith is known for his work on Root Sports NW as a color analyst for Mariners games and in their pre- and post-game shows. He also contributes to the Mariners' post-game show on 710 ESPN Seattle
  7. And which ones do you absolutely wanna keep? I love Alcantara and Moises would be off limits for me. I know they are both blocked for now at the MLB level but man can they hit. Caissie isn't a slouch either. He had two homers tonight and will be coveted as well. Long has come outta nowhere and can rake but is blocked by Busch so he'll probably be available. Here's the rundown from tonight's minor league games and most all of the above mentioned prospects showed out tonight: https://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2025/7/3/24461371/cubs-minor-league-wrap-owen-caissie-kevin-alcantara-jonathon-long-brandon-birdsell-owen-ayers One more article on Hoyer's impact this season. It's a good read: https://cubbiescrib.com/calculating-jed-hoyer-impact-on-the-2025-chicago-cubs

  8. Can't argue with that Bertz....he's been something else. So has Palencia, Pomeranz, Brasier Keller, Thielbar and everyone else in that bullpen. They've had one bad series against Seattle but that's been it.
  9. Then if that's the case they're Cub haters....forget 'em. Cade was lights OUT tonight and for the first time all season I feel like the light is coming on for Shaw. He looks the part on D already but just as importantly, he's starting to calm down in the box and take pitches. He's not just up there hacking away like before. Future is bright ladies and gents.
  10. You are right Jason, that change is the great equalize for lefty heavy lineups like Cleveland tonight. Cade was on POINT tonight. But again....let's get some runs.
  11. Thrilled with Horton tonight....solid as hell. We've got a winner fellas. Love that kid. Now let's get some runs.
  12. Gambling eh? A few days ago it was Beasley of the PIstons, now Ortiz is imploding his career for some side cheddar. Hope it was worth it, but I highly doubt it
  13. The fact that FanDuel now owns broadcast networks (looking at you Detroit Tigers) is a sleazy conflict of interest. To be more specific: Potential Conflicts of Interest: Shaping betting behaviors: Broadcasters who have financial ties to sportsbooks may be incentivized to manipulate or mislead viewers to encourage bets that benefit the sportsbook. Compromising game integrity: Critics fear that teams or leagues sponsored by gambling companies might be influenced to act in ways that benefit their sponsors, potentially compromising the fairness of the game. Normalization of gambling: The convergence of sports and gambling normalizes betting, potentially encouraging those who are vulnerable to gambling addiction. Exploitation of vulnerable individuals: Concerns exist that sports betting companies may be targeting vulnerable individuals through their promotions and advertising.
  14. Or as I like to call it: Faux News.
  15. Good stat but Brewers gonna win 90+ IMO so....there's that
  16. Yeah, the Mets are imploding right now. Beyond the pale how bad they are. Brewers drilled them in 1st game of doubleheader and will have a good shot at a sweep with their big rookie starting the 2nd game (Miz) I hate the Mets in general but I don't know what the hell has happened there....just brutal. I wonder if they regret signing Soto to all that money that could've bought 5-7 very good players instead. LOL.
  17. Agree mj....Cabrera is NICE but we won't be his only suitors. Friggin' Dodgers said to be after Alcantara. Wish our minor league system was like LA. They just re-load every year: https://www.si.com/mlb/dodgers/news/news/dodgers-want-50-million-cy-young-winner-in-blockbuster-trade-says-insider
  18. Just saw the end of this game...Bucs are on fire and Keller pitched great. His price just inched up I suppose. I do agree with you that the juice isn;'t worth the squeeze with him
  19. Bucs just swept away the Red Birds in PItt....3 shutouts in a row I believe. Keller looked great today: he went 7 scoreless and I would guess his price just went up
  20. I agree 55....if Steele was in there they'd have 3 of the best lefties in baseball dealing. Boyd has been rock solid to say the least. Wouldn't be in first place without him. As for Palencia, he might JUST be rounding into a lights out closer we've been desperately looking for.
  21. Taillon is just....bad all of a sudden. So good earlier in the season and it's as if he's ran out of gas. We have virtually no shot today with him on the mound....none. His ERA will balloon past 5 today. Failed signing by Jed. JT is a nice guy, good teammate, etc...just looks old all of a sudden.
  22. Absolutely. Great fielder, fast and hits for the highest avg. on the team...leader too. Love him.
  23. I'll eat a little crow on that one Derwood, although I still think most would agree with me that he'd be best suited as a long man in the bullpen. That said, we wouldn't have any lead in the division without him this season. He's been very good as a 4th/5th starter. Almost equal to Assad I'd say. Speaking of Javier, I miss that dude. Wish to hell he wouldn't have gotten hurt. I see he's been cleared for a throwing program, sure would be nice to get him back in a month or so. He'd be a nice boost for the back of the rotation.
  24. Yeah, it's bizarre.....not the kid's fault. Jed had no idea the kid would blow up and well, here we are. If we can sign Tucker it will ease a lot of the angst obviously.
  25. True enough...Rea has been a good soldier but man alive I'd like to see him in the pen where he belongs. Frustrating.
