  1. Keller's control has completely left the building. Palencia into the game when he shouldn't have had to even sniffed an appearance. Hopefully he's got his good stuff today
  2. The guy has been absolutely lights OUT. I was pretty familiar with him from his days with Cleveland and Detroit so when we signed him I was hopeful but he's been unreal obviously. Don't know who we'll get to slot in behind him and Imanaga but as another poster said, if it's a solid #3 type guy then I'll be satisfied, especially if we don't have to give up Caissie to do it.
  3. What's the book on Kriske JR? Heard the name but not familiar with him or his arsenal. TIA
  4. That lineup inspires no confidence, specifically the lower 1/3....woof. Kelly hitting cleanup? WTH......
  5. According to this ESPN piece, it's because Boyd is pitching tomorrow and won't be available for Tuesday's all star game: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45720854/brewers-jacob-misiorowski-nl-all-star-5-starts
  6. Somebody just reported in another thread on this board that Cabrera just went out of the Marlins game in the 4th inning with an elbow injury. Confirmation: https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/marlins-edward-cabrera-leaves-with-elbow-injury/
  7. gflore34 posted earlier that Cabrera had never pitched more than 100 innings was spot on...he gone.
  8. True but he's a lefty and as I just said about Wicks in another thread: LHP's get every last chance on earth to prove themselves. My god I saw former Cub Richard Lovelady with the Mets the other night and thus far he has an ERA north of 11. Same with Rob Zastryzny of the Brewers.....these guys have more than 9 lives
  9. He's a typical AAAA guy. Certainly serviceable at Iowa but has nothing going for him at the big league level. BUT he is left handed so we might be able to throw him in as a trade chip later this month. Lefties are always given every last chance to show they don't suck but he he's no bueno it would appear
  10. So we all agree and can see the obvious: our team is leaking oil and limping into the ASB. Suck against LHP and need one if not two starters. Also could stand to bolster the pen with another arm. So I've been more critical of Hoyer than most on here but this is do or die for him the next month or so. He has the ammo at Iowa to change the complexion of this team going forward. HATE the idea of giving up Caissie or Alcantara for sure. I like Ballesteros too but I doubt he's a Cub after the deadline. Time for Jed and Carter to put up or shut up at this point. We've got some holes and have been exposed but can still win the division and make a run in Oct. with the right moves.
  11. I love Happ...he's a great guy but he's really been struggling. Needed a day off for sure. Shaw just can't figure it out and I hope we trade for a 3rd baseman cuz he just hasn't gotten it done.
  12. Well, I'm not overly optimistic about another bullpen day but we're shorthanded...not much we can do about it. Rodon is hittable so....we shall see
  13. CLASSIC rant and the guy had a point. That Cub team was dog shat bad and the fans 'frustration' revealed that almost on a daily basis
  14. My bad...didn't know he told them that. No bueno for us.
  15. Quite possibly, and sometimes a vet like DJ can get a second wind with a team like the Cubs. Things had grown stagnant for him in NY.
  16. I don't see why not either. Worth a flyer, he has some skins on the wall.
  17. Good post re. Eovaldi, but they COULD go after someone like Morton of the O's. Wouldn't cost much and the birds are gonna be dumping salary. I like the idea personally: https://cubbiescrib.com/cubs-rumors-orioles-trade-ripple-could-give-cubs-new-trade-partner-01jztsg7627b
  18. Good point, and the rest of the 'available' 3rd baggers don't thrill me at this point either. Suarez is the crown jewel and it'll take a lot to get him.
  19. There was a lot more good than bad today so I'll address the good first. Rea with another gem and he's a solid 4/5 bottom of the rotation guy the rest of the year. He's been every bit as good as we were hoping Assad would be in that role. Props to him because without his 7 wins we wouldn't be in first place. What more can be said about PCA, the kid is a phenom and a joy to watch. He's must see TV for sure. I like Dansby's move down the order and he's hitting well and his glove is always solid. Now the bad: Ian continues to be brutal at the plate and it's past time he moves to the lower part of the order. C'mon CC....shake it up. As for Porter Hodge, it's apparent the injury bug has bitten him unfortunately. Shoulders are tricky and scary really. So for deadline moves we're still at a solid middle of rotation guy who can be slotted in behind Imanaga and Boyd and ahead of Horton and Rea. 3rd base? Yeah, Suarez is a dream trade for us but I just read the Yankees want him now so.....his price could be untenable at this point. Another solid bullpen arm? Yes please.
  20. Good post and points 55...what do you REALISTICALLY think Jed is going to do at the deadline? Most of us agree we need another MOR starter, another bullpen arm and a 3rd baseman due to Shaw's lack of success thus far. Gotta give to get, how many of the big 3 (Alcantara, Ballesteros, Cassie) do you see being dealt?
  21. Lead probably down to 1.5 after tonight. Thought we were pointed in the right direction after that home stand but apparently not. We are leaking oil gents, no other way to look at it. The Brewers are smoking hot and we're treading water. ASB can't come soon enough.
  22. Sounds about right. They flame out in the first round most every time they are there.
  23. Yeah, it's frustrating for sure. Very possible they'll catch us or pass us by the all star break, and that's the bad news. However, we have a softer 2nd half schedule than they do so hopefully we can bolster our staff with an addition at the deadline and go from there: https://powerrankingsguru.com/mlb/strength-of-schedule.php#google_vignette
  24. Scott has been PUTRID for LA, and I'm really friggin' glad they overpayed for him and we didn't sign him. Yates gives up the game winner in the 10th and Milwaukee wins again....now within 2 games of us. They are hot.
