  1. McGuire has been a damn solid backup catcher since he's come up. Real pleasant surprise indeed. Amaya started a throwing program about a week ago,
  2. Seiya sure does struggle in RF...damn Craig, just DH him the rest of the season. He's all thumbs out there.
  3. We're toast against this guy. I can see why he's had the year he's had. He must mix about 4 or 5 different breaking balls in his arsenal. Rarely throws a fastball and when he does it's a crisp 96mph or so. Rea with another fastball to Raleigh...he's a slow learner as is the Cub staff this weekend. Stop giving him pitches to HIT fer crissakes.
  4. I do but I wasn't one of them. Our offense is pretty solid overall IMHO. It's the pitching that is biting us currently. Can't control that Steele/Assad/Shota got hurt obviously. Brown/Rea/Horton have done a decent job until now. As I type this, Rea just gave up another HR, this time on a hanging breaking ball. He's a bullpen arm at best and again...it's been half a miracle we've won with him as a SP at all. Getting Shota back will help but we really need another starter pronto. Haven't heard anything about Assad except he had a 'setback' a couple weeks ago.
  5. Yep, our mediocre June continues and the Brewers and Cards are playing solid ball. Helps the Brewers that they're feasting on a weak Minny team this weekend.
  6. That's 19 runs in 20 innings for Seattle thus far this series. Another fastball right down the middle, about like batting practice. Need Shota back and a trade or two. Pitching is bottoming out, both the starters and bullpen.
  7. He's ok for a 5th starter and we're probably lucky he's had the run he's had thus far this season. That said, this is a terrible match up for him today. Seiya says SEE ya!
  8. Hoping you are right on your 2nd point. Brujan simply can't hit well enough to stay on this roster. Fielding up until yesterday was decent. His throwing error cost Horton the win yesterday. Just really want to see him replaced asap.
  9. Couldn't agree more. He was solid for the most part but very poor defense knocked him out early. Love what I see from him. I imagine as the year goes on they'll have to limit his innings one way or the other but the fact remains....he looks like the real deal.
  10. Shota showed OUT in his rehab at Iowa, that's the good news. Bad news is Hodge was bombed: https://cubbiescrib.com/porter-hodge-s-brutal-rehab-outing-raises-questions-about-his-readiness-01jy9crmvtvwhttps://cubbiescrib.com/porter-hodge-s-brutal-rehab-outing-raises-questions-about-his-readiness-01jy9crmvtvw
  11. Real good post and points JR....just wish we wouldn't have given up SO much for a guy that it's a long shot to re-sign. Bums me right out.
  12. Just KILLS me they gave up Cam Smith in the Tucker trade. I like Kyle but get the distinct feeling he won't sign here and will chase the mega money in LA or Boston. Hell, even Paredes is tearing it up this season. Shaw OK on D but I don't know about his bat. Doesn't seem like he has much pop.
  13. Just don't know about this bullpen guys. Pomeranz/Brasier/Flexen, etc....hope Jed can add an arm or two at the deadline. Need Hodge back. Adding Pearson give me no solace.
  14. You got that right....it's one of those days already. 10 runs might not be enough today.
  15. realistically we are OUT of that inning with minimal damage if not for Brujan's miserable error. That's a play most high school kids make. Don't see the wisdom in him being on this roster right now.
  16. Great point on Hodge...hope he's close to being ready again. Little has great stuff but of course his problem was control. Don't know if he's worked that out at Iowa or not. I'd need one of you guys to fill me in on that.
  17. That's a fact Derwood....you guys think he's worth a mega deal? (400-500mil?) I don't think he is. Spend that money on signing PCA for the next 10 years.
  18. True but like I said before, this pen isn't what it seems IMO. We've had some guys pitching WAY over their heads thus far this season. I'd like to see another quality BP arm added at the deadline who wouldn't...most every contender is looking to do that. It's a lot easier said than done. We need a quality starter and a quality reliever at bare minimum. Tough task but possible of course. Just don't wanna give up Moises to get it done.
  19. Pressly is a high wire act...like to see him moved to strictly mop up/low leverage situations. Thielbar has been great but just plain grooved one to the hottest hitter in baseball. FB right down the middle and he did what he's supposed to do with it. Now we need some late inning magic to overcome the BP failure today. To be fair, the BP has been the best in baseball for quite some time. You don't like to see them come back to earth but that's what it looks like. Most of our guys are older or reclamation projects, they weren't gonna keep that up forever.
  20. Agree, he's green and rough around the edges. Fingers crossed for tonight.
  21. He's the clubhouse clown. See his stunt with the fake nut sack in the dugout tunnel the other night. I mean, that would be a riot at summer camp if you were 12ish years old
  22. Here's a pretty good article on the trade: https://cubbiescrib.com/3-unexpected-ways-the-cubs-are-impacted-by-the-stunning-rafael-devers-trade
  23. Early opinion is that the Giants just did the Sox a huge favor in their pursuit of Tucker next off season. I can't believe the Giants took that whole salary off of the R.Sox books and while we know he can rake, his D is well below average. Guy is rumored to be a malcontent as well. So what does is mean for us in trying to sign Tucker? Personally, I'd rather give big money and long term security to PCA, as it doesn't seem like Ricketts would sign both of them to big deals. Yeah, they have time on Pete but his price tag gets higher by the week obviously. OTOH, it would really suck to not sign Tucker knowing we traded away what we did to get him. That would be a kick in the groin so to speak. Thoughts?
