  1. While I don't disagree about some of Fran's rotations, foul trouble was absolutely a concern. Marble, Clemmons and May all had 2. Now you can argue about the autobench with 2 fouls in the first half for specific players, but that definitely played a part in that decision.
  2. Of course, no one is arguing that either.
  3. Right. But that's a big part of why the RPI is so dumb. Basically that 35 spot gap in the rankings is based on ISU playing only one 300+ team and Iowa playing five of them (won all 5 by 29 or more). But ISU has played more 200+, they just played mid-200 teams instead of 300+. Their record would almost certainly be exactly the same had they replaced four of the 300's with 225+'s but it changes the RPI by 30 or more spots. I mean it's Fran's fault for scheduling so dumb. You can schedule easy without scheduling dumb. A lot of us saw this coming in the summer. It's just annoying that something so meaningless makes such an impact.
  4. Team A- 2-8 vs. top 50 Team B- 2-7 vs. top 50 Team A- 2-0 vs. 51-100 Team B- 3-1 vs. 51-100 Team A- 7-3 vs. 101-200 Team B- 5-1 vs. 101-200 Team A- 7-0 vs. 200+ Team B- 9-1 vs. 200+ Team A- 2-8 on road, 2-1 on neutral courts Team B- 3-8 on road, 1-1 on neutral courts Team A- 1 top 100 win away from home, 4 top 200 wins away from home Team B- 1 top 100 win away from home, 2 top 200 wins away from home Team A- 32 in Pomeroy, 37 in Sagarin Team B- 45 in Pomeroy, 42 in Sagarin Yet Team A's RPI is 87 and Team B's RPI is 52 so Team B is still often considered in while Team A is often mentioned as not even one of the top 8 out.
  5. In and will take the Vikings.
  6. Hopefully this storm doesn't make for a small crowd tomorrow night against Illinois. Should be a good game. Iowa favored by 4. If Iowa wins they should get the 7 seed (maybe 6) and Illinois would probably be in the 8-9 with Purdue and vice versa. If Iowa wins the two this week and two in Chicago I think it will be enough with the way the bubble is imploding.
  7. Just think if they would have called the interior hacking Iowa was doing inside. 27-25 foul calls. Like 90% of IUs were away from the ball. You can't be [expletive] serious. Every single foul called was a legit foul. U guys were hacking like crazy. Oh my God. The inbounds play where Hulls grabbed Ingram's arm and held it to draw the foul was legit? Oh and I loved Zeller diving and taking out Clemmons' legs and then getting praised for an incredible hustle play when the 37 replays they showed of it showed what a clear foul it was. Anyways, IU was better and I'm not trying to make it like the officiating decided the game. But IU was just as physical if not more.
  8. Just think if they would have called the interior hacking Iowa was doing inside. 27-25 foul calls. Like 90% of IUs were away from the ball. You can't be [expletive] serious.
  9. Huh? Iowa plays fast and some of the least physical defense in the league. Half of the ugliness was from IU getting a whistle every time the ball got inside the 3-point line or if Zeller was breathed on.
  10. White? Yeah He sucked tonight and fucked up the run we had going but he's pretty good. Averaging 13.6 and 6 and really efficient.
  11. 47 field goal attempts, 38 free throws. This is absurd.
  12. This officiating is a joke. Hulls grabs onto Ingram's arm and draws the foul. IU fans booing every call against them when they've shot 36 free throws in 33 minutes.
  13. Looks like Sheehey was just following instructions: http://telly.com/4HTJAT
  14. What did he do? Acted like he was shot in the side of the face to try to draw a flagrant foul. There's a decent chance there was no contact and if there was, it was completely minimal. Then he flopped and rolled around while holding the side of his face.
  15. Because Sheehey really needed to do something to make him an even bigger [expletive] than he already was.
  16. If they somehow won out (10-8 with a win AT Indiana) they wouldn't need 2. If they go 9-9 they need 2 to be in the discussion, probably get to the championship to get in. Yesterday was soul-crushing.
  17. St. Louis is legit. They're a better team than Butler.
  18. Absolutely. It's one of the big reasons the RPI is a farce. And it's stupid that IU is anti-gaming their strength of schedule, but they are. You're just not going to convince me that games against the top-25/50/100/whatever are not far, far more telling than games against sub-150/200/whatever teams (a point I agreed with earlier in the season when SSR said IU was overrated in Pomeroy because they were "Wisconsin-ing bad teams"). And one of the biggest reasons why Iowa's RPI is around 80 while their Pomeroy/Sagarin are around 30. They beat a bunch of 250-340 teams by 30+ instead of beating 150-225 teams by 15. Of course they also get no credit for losing 4 games to good teams that were one possession in the final minute.
  19. You're in at 10-8 regardless of the BTT. All the bracket goons seem to think otherwise. Although I think at this point of the year they often overstate what teams need to do.
  20. 67-30 over the last 33 minutes. That was awesome. At Nebraska Thursday scares the [expletive] out of me. It's pretty simple right now I think. Get to 10-8 with 1 in Chicago and I think they're in. 5 games left. 2 with Nebraska, home games with Illinois and Purdue and at Indiana. Gotta go 4-1 and not gonna win at IU. I don't see them losing at home vs. Purdue or Nebraska so you've gotta get the road wins at Nebraska and home vs. Illinois.
  21. if iowa goes 10-8 they'll be in, but they won't go 10-8 Yeah they're in the range where it's more than just possible but not likely. The remaining schedule is Minnesota, @Nebraska, Purdue, @Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska. They need to go 5-1 in those 6 to get to 10-8. I definitely think they win the Purdue and Nebraska home games so then it comes down to winning 3 of the other 4. If they get Minnesota on Sunday I'll get optimistic. I think 9-9 is more likely. At that point you have to beat a bottom 3 in the first round and hope you draw Wisconsin/OSU in the 2nd round rather than IU/UM. [expletive]. If they just split the games they lost where they led in the final minute they're damn near in and really just playing for a seed irght now.
  22. Hey, Iowa vs. Minnesota has the highest FanMatch score of the weekend! Too bad Pomeroy stopped doing his breakdowns. If Iowa wins they're sitting at 17-7, 6-7 with their next two @Nebraska and vs. Purdue and right back in the conversation. I think it will require at least 9-9 + 1, possibly 2 in Chicago or 10-8 + 1 to get in.
  23. Which begs the question, if you have to pick one for virtually the same contract, who would you choose to sign?
