  1. Don't worry, your streak will end next Saturday. Iowa hasn't won at Illinois in like 42 years or something.
  2. Speaking of Marshall, it's the 1 year anniversary. http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/21617167/afternoon-delight-weird-saturday-so-far-let-us-count-the-ways- http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/19dpl6utoslg7gif/ku-xlarge.gif
  3. Michigan played well, Iowa was not good. They got good looks, forced us into tough ones and kept us off the line until late. Bench gave Iowa nothing and Marble played a really poor game. Big Ten road game vs. a really good team. Just don't let it carry over into an 11 a.m. trap game at Northwestern before the MSU game Tuesday.
  4. Iowa cracked the top 10 for the first time since 2002. Latest in the season since 1993. Entire top 10: 1. Arizona 2. Syracuse 3. Michigan St 4. Villanova 5. Wichita St 6. Florida 7. San Diego St 8. Kansas 9. Wisconsin 10. Iowa
  5. Looking forward to it. How has Iowa been on the road this year? I know they are tough to beat at home even when they aren't that great but I'm hoping Michigan can protect home court here. Led at Iowa State for most of the game, went 1-6 from the line in the last minute and lost by 3. Led for the first 25-28 minutes at Wisconsin, fell apart, then made it tight again and lost by 4. Won at Ohio State by 10. Neutral court they beat Xavier in OT, beat UTEP by 36, lost to Villanova in OT, beat Drake by 17.
  6. Down 10 with a minute left in the first half. Outscore them 61-30 the rest of the way. I [expletive] love this team.
  7. Great move. Yeah it's a pretty large upgrade in coaching staff to have Zimmer running the D and Norv running the O. They have talent on offense aside from the most important position. They're going to have to get that spot right long-term obviously, but I think it's possible Norv could work some magic out of Cassel for a year while having Adrian, Jennings, Patterson, Rudolph, Simpson.
  8. Norv Turner to the Vikings as OC is a done deal.
  9. Good Lord this would be heavenly.
  10. Nah, Zimmer is a good hire. 2nd best of the offseason, IMO, behind Bradley in Houston. I'll take proven coordinator or college coach getting promotions to HC over retread head coaches who have never won anything. I just think hiring a defensive-minded coach when your offense is a mess with no QB was a mistake. Not really, depends on his offensive coordinator. And he has a huge coaching tree as he's been a long-time DC for several organizations. I'm thinking he'll be able to find someone pretty decent. They're bringing in Norv Turner for an interview which I'd like a lot. Zimmer has the type of personality/command that would be able to keep him from getting too cute I think.
  11. The defense was a far greater mess. One of the few worst in the league depending on how you evaluate it. The offense has some talent (Peterson, Jennings, Patterson, Rudolph, solid line) but obviously needs a QB. Whoever the future QB is, he's not on the roster now. I'm not convinced that there's a big difference in developing that guy with an offensive minded head coach rather than just getting a good coordinator and QB coach. Childress/Bevell and Kevin Rogers were supposed to be great QB minds but it didn't matter when Tarvaris was the guy. Then of course you can look at Belichick and others for the opposite. I love the hire. I was pretty indifferent on almost all of the coordinator possibilities other than him. It's somewhat remarkable to me how much his current and former players all love him and swear by him given his style. I think he's a hell of a coach and should be a good leader. I also like that he has a varied defensive background which is crucial in today's NFL compared to Frazier who was fairly rigid to his core philosophy. As always, it will come down to finding a QB.
  12. 25-17 with 14 minutes to go. Ick
  13. [expletive] yes!
  14. The Vikings have asked for permission to interview about 18 coordinators by now it feels like. There's really no one that excites me that much more than the others at this point. Edit: Now I see they're going to interview Mike Zimmer. I think I'd really like him as a head coach, but obviously his OC/QB guy would be huge like any of the other defensive guys.
  15. You guys pretty much nailed it regarding Iowa in those posts. Wisconsin's schedule is so beneficial though, they would be my favorite.
  16. Looks about right to me but I would have MSU down 1-2 wins. I think 13-5 ties for first this year.
  17. This year it was almost all a function of talent and injuries. The LB's are either bad or aging (Greenway). The only decent CB was a rookie who didn't come along until the middle of the year and was a part-time player prior to that, then got injured late. Harrison Smith (safety) is probably the best player and he was out most of the year with injury. I think he'd be a good coordinator again as long as you're fine with him staying so rigid to his philosophy. Players absolutely love him and play their asses off for him, even with nothing on the line. I would have been fine with him remaining head coach with upgrades at QB and offensive coordinator.
  18. He's pretty much married to a 4-3, cover 2/quarters based scheme. Not sure if you guys want that or not.
  19. And the Lions have fired Schwartz.
  20. I really hope the Lions keep Schwartz. Right now I'd rank the openings: Houston, Tampa, Minnesota, Washington, Cleveland. I've seen Adam Gase (OC for Denver) and Jay Gruden thrown around the most with the Vikings job. Del Rio also which would cause me to lose my mind. I think they probably go with an offensive guy to try to groom the next QB. Doug Farrar said they might look for a college guy and mentioned Sumlin and Franklin. Sumlin would be really interesting, not sure what his buyout situation is.
  21. Yeah they're horrible. Lost by 19 at home to Northwestern St., lost by 29 at Iowa State and only beat 0-10 Tennessee State by 5 at home. I remember really wanting Tony Barbee to be Iowa's next coach when Lickliter was fired. Yikes.
  22. I'm pretty excited for it and think Iowa has a decent shot, but it feels like we're in the middle of about a 5-year stretch where I'll always expect the home team to win in this series.
  23. Tuesday night looks pretty rough for the Big Ten in the B1G/ACC challenge. Iowa at home vs. ND is the only clear favorite I see. The only other two chances I see for wins are Illinois at Georgia Tech and Minnesota vs. FSU.
  24. That's quite an exaggeration. The Bears also had a lot of things go their way also. It was just an amazing collection of errors and [expletive] ups by both teams. Terrible refs helped the Vikings in a huge way Won't argue that.
