  1. Was it that badly officiated? All my Iowa fan friends are crying about it on FB. Yeah I mean I'm biased but it felt like they got every 50/50 call in the 2nd half. It got really physical in the last 12 minutes and the officials reverted to the 2012 appraoch. There were 2 that were really bad late (Gesell block, McCabe on box out) and both went against Iowa. They were the team launching from deep while Iowa was attacking but they were getting the calls. Basically Iowa was in control the first 28 minutes, was up 12 with 11:30 to go then got dumb offensively, Villanova got unconscious from 3 and we didn't get any calls. Frustrating loss but in the grand scheme of things it was probably about right to split this and the Xavier games.
  2. Yeah it's huge to get a win like that when you play so poorly overall. How do you come back from down 15 in the second half when you shoot 30% in the second half? Marble put them on his back. Huge for RPI purposes also. Now you'll come out of here with 3 games vs. top 50 teams most likely and at least 1 win. With a loss we easily could have played 2 sub-100 teams.
  3. do not want http://vimeo.com/33982663 The lame fake sportscaster made him look alright by comparison.
  4. What a douchebag move.
  5. shipping costs. the cardinals own the railroad, so they charge whatever they like to move our weights back and forth. now that we have two sets, now we'll be making the real money. LOL
  6. ‏@nickbaumgardner Kentucky's ability to simply call a kid 3 months before a decision and wipe out years of recruiting is incredible. pretty much, what a drag Tyler Ulis. Said all along how important it was that Iowa believed in him early, built the relationship, etc. over 2+ years. Then he hears from Kentucky for the first time in like June, gets offered mid-summer and commits to them within a couple of months.
  7. Since ESPN bought out Basketball Prospectus, they're rolling out a lot of the stuff that used to be in the book/previews. Here's the ranking of 1-351, all Insider. http://insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/9859613/projections-all-351-division-teams-college-basketball For the Big Ten he has MSU 3rd, OSU 7th, Wisconsin 10th(!), Michigan 12th, Iowa 16th, Indiana 29th, Purdue 46th, Illinois 53, Minnesota 63, Northwestern 108, Penn State 117, Nebraska 126. Pomeroy's also just came out: http://kenpom.com/ In the Big Ten he has MSU 2, OSU 7, Michigan 12, Iowa 15, Wisconsin 22, Indiana 25, Purdue 30, Minnesota 35, Illinois 46, Penn St. 79, Northwestern 87, Nebraska 123.
  8. I really don't know what to make of Freeman as a Vikings fan. I didn't like him as a prospect, then he looked great. Then he looked bad. Not sure what caused the massive regression other than Schiano. He's more talented than Ponder but I like Christian more.
  9. I love this tweet by Gammons: Really? Someone who wants to be a manager but isn't a manager would have been interested in a managing job with a major-market team?
  10. Funny, but that was during the Washington State-Stanford game.
  11. Yep, appears to be a done deal. This sucks.
  12. would be a huge get for iowa Well, metaphorically speaking. I can't see him going to Kentucky. I mean he realizes that would be foolish, right? Everyone is now predicting that he'll go to Kentucky. A few writers think it's either Iowa or Kentucky. Obviously if you want to win a national championship, go to Kentucky. Otherwise, it makes more sense in almost every other way for him to go to Iowa. If he goes to UK he's going to get recruited over by elite PG's that are 5 inches taller and probably end up transferring by his junior year. The NBA stuff is nonsense in his case. Being 5'8 is going to be the roadblock regardless. His only chance is to go to a decent team where he can play a huge role for 4 years. Him and his dad kept talking throughout the process about how the relationship with coaches and trust would be most important. They love Fran and in 90% of the interviews praised him for seeing what he could do before other high-majors and said they would always remember who was there from the beginning and that would play a big role. Then Cal comes rolling in at the last minute after he blows up and loses out on top targets and apparently will get him.
  13. Tyler Ulis took his visits to MSU and Kentucky this weekend and now will be deciding between those two and Iowa within a week.
  14. This is getting ridiculous.
  15. Man do I love Nate Schierholtz.
  16. Here's Elvis Andrus [expletive] with Beltre again: http://deadspin.com/elvis-andrus-is-still-[expletive]-with-adrian-beltre-718284326?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_twitter&utm_source=deadspin_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow
  17. Was just going to post that. Dogs are just the [expletive] best.
  18. Not sure if this was posted but I just saw this on Posnanski's blog regarding Yuni Betancourt. The opportunities this guy gets are incredible: http://joeposnanski.blogspot.com/2013/06/its-his-yuni-verse.html
  19. All I wanted was for Burke to fall to the Pistons and they passed on him for Caldwell-Pope.
  20. Saw this tweeted out: http://theivydrip.wordpress.com/2013/06/11/why-baezs-4-hr-is-the-worst-thing-ever/ Apparently one of the main "Committed Indian" (Blackhawks newsletter/blog) guys is trying the same thing with the Cubs. I like their hockey stuff but they care way too much about what meatballs think and it's apparently the same with the Cubs. Also a few exaggerated points.
