  1. McGwire being a "sour individual" should have nothing to do with ranking him on the all-time great player list. If we're including personality and off the field topics into that discussion, Sosa should be downgraded for something of the things he did too.
  2. Dunn HASN'T done anything (no pun intended) to show he is a "difference maker". He hasn't improve the Reds since he's been there (granted not many players could improve that team). Granted Dunn hits a few out, and walk a few times, but in no way would I consider Dunn a "difference maker" until he proves it. What else exactly would he have to do to be a difference maker? How about becoming....I don't know....a COMPLETE player? Or...helping the Reds WIN MORE GAMES....maybe.....doing those things. No doubt Dunn is a GIFTED POWER THREAT, but having power doesn't mean he is a "difference maker." Who would you consider to be a difference maker?
  3. Dunn signed a 2 year 18.5 million dollar deal today. 2006: 7.5 mil 2007: 10.5 mil 2008: 13 mil Club Option
  4. What is the Hall of Fame's stance on Pete Rose? Everyone knows MLB's and Bud Selig's stance on the issue, what does the HOF say on the subject and personally, how do you feel about it? Thank you.
  5. West Tenn to Chicago is not as big a jump as it used to be.
  6. Who is Murton going to sit for? Hairston? Mabry? Hairston 2005 against righties: .263/.351/.366/.718 Mabry 2005 against righties: .242/.301/.428/.729 Murton against righties: 261/.329/.478/.807 Murton will need days off throughout the season and those selected days off should only be against "extreme righties". Looking at who would be replacing him in the lineup, I can't see the Cubs benefitting from having Murton on the bench in those games. With such a weak OF bench, Murton will need to be in the lineup 140 games throughout the season. I dunno. I thought that those comments by Baker about Murton were somewhat encouraging. I'm just concerned about what would be considered an "extreme righty". Dusty has taken credit for bringing Murton along slowly in '05 and Murton has mentioned that it helped him progress. If the Cubs are serious about Murton being their everyday LF for the next 5 years, then I think it should be time to take the reigns off and let him play nearly everyday. Especially considering the other options to spell Murton, Dusty should have Murton penciled in the lineup nearly everyday.
  7. Baker on how he might play Murton: Who is Murton going to sit for? Hairston? Mabry? Hairston 2005 against righties: .263/.351/.366/.718 Mabry 2005 against righties: .242/.301/.428/.729 Murton against righties: 261/.329/.478/.807 Murton will need days off throughout the season and those selected days off should only be against "extreme righties". 8. good deal by Hendry and Zambrano. Keep our fingers crossed that he stays healthy and this horrendous WBC doesn't take a toll on his arm in the second half of the season.
  9. Wrigley is turning more and more gimmicky every year. I really don't see the need to have the "knot hole" if you can't use it during games. Then again, I guess I could see people standing there when the Cubs are on the road and watch the groundskeepers watering and mowing the grass.
  10. I'm going on the record saying Miguel Cabrera and Joe Girardi will not see eye to eye on much of anything.
  11. Yes, the officiating was pretty bad, but Mike Holmgren deserves the majority of the blame for the loss. His clock management skills make Dick Jauron look like Belicheck.
  12. I'll go down as saying there's no way either of them put up those numbers. I'll agree that Murton won't get the .318 BA and .378 OBP, but I'd say he gets 13 HRs and 53 RBI. I don't think there's any point in projecting RBI's, and I guess he might get the HR, that part being accurate is almost irrelevent to me in light of the total production. The reason I included the RBI's was considering where Murton will probably bat in the lineup. If he's hitting 6th, then he should easily eclipse 53 RBI's. I understand your point about RBI's being irrelevant to overall production, but Murton should put up at least 53 RBI's and 13 HRs.

  14. word. I really don't think I'll be as big of a Cubs fan as I am now, if the Cubs ever win the world series title. I'll just be in eternal bliss for the next 50 years.
  15. Do you know the specifics? At least on Pierre? Nope, it was "breaking news" on the Score. As usual, no details were given. Only Zambrano remains to be signed.
  16. Both Ohman and Pierre have signed deals with the Cubs.
  17. Maybe the Cubs should utilize a short centerfield position like softball. That's a way to solve the glut of middle infielders.
  18. The Score is reporting the Cubs are close to a deal with Will Ohman for a 1 year contract. No details were given in terms of salary.
  19. What makes you say that? He let Steve Nash go over money. Bad move for the Mavs. He doesn't throw his money around like you assume he would. doesn't the NBA have a cap though? i don't know yes, it does.
  20. Five million in revenue for a sign! So according to Forbes the Cubs made 11.4 million This compares the number of wins per player payroll relative to the rest of the MLB. Postseason wins count twice as much as regular season wins. So 100 would be average so 77 not good but better than the Yankees 52. These are 2004 numbers. Unless the article is refering to a different sign. The Cubs already put one up before the 2005 season.
  21. Are they really that proud, or is that a media creation? Or, are they proud of the record, but realize that having that record means players won't fear going to arbitration and risk having to settle for the lower offer if they lose? I think they are more interested in the cash than the record of no arbitration, nobody gives out prizes for never going to arbitration. I've heard, on more than a few occasions, both Hendry and MacPhail mentioning this tidbit as something they're seemingly proud of. I don't really see the big deal, unless protecting your players from criticizism is that important.
  22. but I highly doubt that they want their streak of not going to arbitration that they brag about so much to end with a guy like Will Ohman. This is my point too. The front office is so, so proud of not having a player go to arbitration since MacPhail and Co. took over. I can't see that perfect record get smudged for an expendable pitcher ike Will Ohman.
  23. What ever happened with the billion dollar tax the Trib. Co. owed?
