  1. Cubs finally snapped their 32 consecutive inning streak with a hit with RISP, which is more than their previous 30 inning streak dating back to the Tigers series last week.
  2. It’s nice having a bench where Tommy LaStella is left off of the playoff roster thanks to quality depth.
  3. It’s actually the bullpen that’s been 2 years over due. Thanks to the park factor and defense the Cubs throw more pitches over the plate than any team in baseball and have had success as of late, albeit the pirates have given them a boost.
  4. This is cubs-marlins 2020 playoffs bad. Just like you knew Brady would lead a clutch game winning drive, you just know this team won’t put more than a couple runs on the board.
  5. 5 of their last 24 runs have scored on hits inside of the park, including PCAs double with the ghost runner.
  6. Hopefully it’s their typical May/June slump we’ve seen since 23 deferred by a month thanks to Tucker, an ascending PCA, easy schedule, and a bullpen that’s been lights out so far and unfortunately due for some regression. You’d think. it started vs the Rockies and I assume this gauntlet of pitchers are the 6 they’ve faced since Gore. Problem is their ERAs average out in the mid 2’s, not .7 scoring 3/39 innings vs those 6. I think Swanson needs a day off too. He’s completely lost.
  7. It’s beyond facing these ace pitchers, it all started vs the Rockies. Vs Gore, Skubal, Flathery?, Wheeler, Luzzardo and Skenes they’ve put a whopping 3 runs on the board in 39 innings. Their mean ERAs including a Luzzardo who’s not tipping pitches is likely in the mid 2’s, not .7. only silver lining I suppose is they’ve been worse in may and June since 2023. I think Dansby needs a day off too.
  8. You can’t be disappointed if you have no expectations I guess.
  9. He’s not a never will be Vlad. He’s sustained this power since last August with 25 homers in his last 120 games and already on pace for over 40. My question is how much of his plate aggression is a result of his confidence in getting a hold of a bad pitch as much as it is or less so bad plate discipline where he’s capable of improving in that area.
  10. what percentage of PCAs homers have been out of the zone this year? We want him to take more walks, how necessary is it if he’s homering off of fastballs 8 inches above the plate neck high and or golfing curves less that a foot off the ground into the outfield stands? his bat extension and plate coverage has defied my loft 24 home run prediction that he’s on pace to blow away.
  11. Get out of here. They’re not going to DFA a veteran clubhouse presence like Turner? Oh well. Anyways, if you’re trying to win now, it’s worth considering pulling some strings for an upgrade if Counsell insists on platooning Turner. I’m not exactly smitten by his 300 average in whatever sample size it is. I know there’s bigger needs but you would think this would be the easiest to need to address no matter how marginal because it wouldn’t cost you anything close to a top prospect. If Long is ready to hit ML pitching, he’ll certainly get some at bats reps too off the bench too. if they put any of that $30+ million slashed from the payroll back into the team in the offseason, this wouldn’t be a conversation. Just a spitball idea, not one based off of some delusion that they’ll DFA Turner.
  12. Only divisional tie breakers will matter. Stack wins vs the Cardinals and brewers and that’ll require scoring more than 3 runs in 33 innings vs this gauntlet of pitchers and not putting 2 or less runs on the board bi weekly. Amaya has been greatly missed.
  13. Just spitballing here but what about Jake burger as a platoon option at 1B in place of Turner. He’d cost next to nothing and has a 786 OPS vs lefties. something has to give when in 25-30% of of games you have a starting lineup without Busch and a neutralized PCA. he’s one guy who comes to mind as long as Texas continues to lose.
  14. They’re 10 games over 500 inspite of those weaknesses and the Cubs haven’t exactly blown me away with how they’ve been playing either. Very predictable roadtrip.
  15. You knew the Phillies weren’t going to lie down after getting swept vs Pittsburgh, at home. They’re too good to keep losing even without Harper.
  16. Once upon a time, the Cubs bench was so deep that Tommy LaStella didn’t make the playoff roster.
  17. It is. Heaney is tommorow. We’ll have another excuse for a 7 inning 1 run gem again on Friday.
