  1. Yep. You’ve articulated all of my thoughts. I’d add Seiya to the list of righties being hammered by sliders and sweepers away, more than I’ve ever seen and hasn’t really adjusted. Of course some of the batted ball luck is a product of predictable spray charts from multiple guys. They hit right into the shift way too often and can’t use the whole field to make hard contact. PCA Seiya and Busch Hitting a combined 7 home runs since the all star break makes it less forgiving. Top of the order is killing them and I won’t even mention Tucker. The benefit of Nico Hoerner is he can actually hit it to all parts of the field keeping the defense guessing and his lack of power comes in handy where his soft line drive hits are routine, outfield fly outs for the other 8. His power suffers of course but at least he can get a hit with RISP. This lineup is fcked without the long ball and they might as well just sit on fastballs and wait for a mistake at this point.
  2. Congratulations to the cubs offense for tying their season high 8 game streak of scoring 4 runs or fewer last season from June 6th-14th.
  3. This lineup is screwed without Shaw’s unsustainable 1000 OPS in the second half. They were over performing scoring 3.5 runs per game
  4. They scored 9 runs off of pirates scrub right handed pitchers so naturally they’re getting 1 hit by Peralta.
  5. I heard that at least a week ago. I’m assuming they’re already in the process of fixing it if that’s the case.
  6. 3/5 I’d be content with. 2/5 is the same blah we’ve been watching for a month, 1 or less and there’s some serious problems.
  7. The wind has been knocking horsefeathers down all day. The top of the order is still incapable of lifting the ball.
  8. Cubs aren’t streaky. They have 2 5 game winning streaks and 1 3 game losing streak as season highs. Their highs and lows don’t exactly jump out and while you’re correct that it’s not officially a free fall, if they win 2 or less over their next 6 you can consider applying that term. If the wild card race ever gets tight they’ll have a 4 game set with the Reds and a 3 game set with the Mets to put them away at the end of the season. If they can’t then I’d prefer that they back in but I won’t be devastated because of that 1 time the diamond backs made the World Series with 84 wins.
  9. If the cubs finish with 90 wins the Reds won’t catch them. That’s not what I mean by backing in exactly. If they continue to rot in a linear, progressive free fall like an old man in a nursing home then they’re relying on the destiny of other teams and I won’t shed a tear if the Reds or Mets pass them with 86-88 wins. 7 of their final 10 games are against both the Mets and Reds too. They’ll need a cushy lead anyways if they can’t put both teams away.
  10. The total lack of power from the offense is what’s killing them. They’re built to slug the runner on base, not manufacture runs.
  11. Better that they’re peaking now than September. We’ve seen this with the 2006 Twins, 2017 Indians, 01/02 Athletics and countless other teams. Of course this doesn’t bode well for the 5 game set this week.
  12. Speaking for myself, my hatred of Milwaukee has an edge over rationality. I can’t believe some people were 50/50 on this on Friday though. If the Cubs have to back in to the playoffs they don’t deserve to be seeded anyways.
  13. At the end of July the Cubs were number 1 in runs/game at 5.28/game. Cubs are now 5th in runs/game, scoring an average of 5/game on the dot. This has coincided with the soft portion of their schedule too while facing right handed scrubs they mashed early on.
