    It’s insulting to everyone how it’s a foregone conclusion Tucker will be on another team any day now. The front office/ownership won’t even humor us by giving Tucker a half assed competitive offer.

    Offensive runs/oWAR, the crux of my question stemmed from confusion over 3 separate categories on Fangraphs that assign run values to BrR (base running runs), off (which is offensive runs plus base running runs above average), the part that I missed, and defensive runs. To sum it up, the better statistical hitter Michael Busch provided less offensive runs than Tucker because of the disparity in BrR. wRC+ isn’t the only component of offensive run value on Fangraphs which I’ve now learned.

    I’m not sure his spray chart looks like on contact allowed but as a pitcher who generates a lot of fly balls, PCA would fetch a lot of the balls that Merrill couldn’t. Not quite sure how significant though.

    If they won’t pony up for cease then what would that mean regarding a potential extension for a Cabrera/Gore acquired in a trade? Another Tucker situation? They’ve shown no willingness to pay players on their terms.

    But who really is? There’s always a bidding war tax that teams have to pay, Cubs unwillingness to meet players on their preferred $ terms is why they have a rotation full of number 3-4 starters. His peripherals were very good, he’s durable and the Padres defense was 36 runs worse than the cubs.. Is there a reason why you think his velocity will dip, like an injury? Pitch counts keep arms fresh regardless of innings. If the Cubs refuse to shop for the Max Fried, Corbin Burnes type pitchers they’re better off with a capable number 2 starter than their current power in numbers approach in my opinion.

    You were right. I assumed BsR and Offense had separate run values. Offense - Batting and Base Running combined (above average)

    You’re right. I assumed stolen bases only covered BrR.

    Can anyone explain to me how Busch had a 140 wRC+ and was worth 4.6 fewer offensive runs than Tucker with a 136 wRC+ and only 5 more plate appearances?

    Goldschmidt seems like the perfect fit as a platoon option at first base. I also wonder if they’ll slowly work Busch in towards facing left handed pitching this season.

    He needs to connect on deep passes and throws that require touch more than anything. It’s leaving points off the board and good defenses will exploit that weakness. If he ever cleans that up he’ll be able to get away with less than pin point throwing accuracy between the numbers to play at a high level.

    I’m fairly confident Ben Johnson has final say over roster and personnel decisions. 25th in DVOA checks out at the moment too. They’re a very good bad team at the moment that’s a product of schedule sequencing.

    Their wins feel more like they avoided losses than actual wins. Credit to the coaching staff for everything including taking the easy points unlike Dan Campbell in these narrow wins.

    I said before the game McCarthy was their path to a win. He’s bad when he can grip the ball and unplayable with an injury to his throwing hand. He’s Caleb with only the negative traits.

    I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said. I’m wondering what his market will be. It’ll be more than the $20 million player option he turned down.
