    This game came down to Pete stranding 7 base runners. Pete is above this. Nothing is beneath is the pitching staff, so allowing 6 runs is par for the course.

    Dawson was 22nd in OPS, PCA is 2nd in OPS. WAR is adjusted for era and year. You can’t subtract war from a 900 OPS hitter in 2026 and give it to McGuire in 98 because he hit 70 homers, the cumulative league win percentage would be over 500, which is impossible. If you’re on the topic of RBIs and plate appearances then penalizing PCA for less RBIs as a leadoff hitter is unfair too. And If we’re awarding war and run value for RBIs, then how do you propose balancing run value? Subtract war from the baserunners who got on base and were driven in? Subtract war from guys who strikeout with the bases loaded?

    It’s like saying that Eli Manning was a better quarterback than John Elway. They have the same number of rings and Eli blows him away in all passing metrics. It’s not a 1:1 comparison either because Pete is having a better season statistically independent of era.

    One will help him accrue 11 war and break the Cubs single season record more than stolen bases. 11 war is rarer than 40-40 seasons. Acuna went 40/70 and Ohtani went 50/60? It’s an opinion so there’s no wrong answer.

    Well that makes me feel better about our pitching staff, since teams are heavily reliant on hitting home runs to score on them.

    No Ben Johnson, injured safeties, no more prime Ragnow and decker who have yet to be replaced and a glorified Kirk cousins at quarterback. I’m not at all surprised.

    Interesting that Fangraphs gives the Cubs a 6% world World Series odds. At the 153 game mark last year they were at 3.2%. It checks out for me.

    Kind of. The Bluejays had no issues scoring against Schitter, Rodon and Fried+The Dodgers 4 headed monster. The 2023 Rangers, 2019 Nationals are other examples of teams that won because they could pile on runs. None of them were having in season tryouts with 10 games left for high leverage relief roles that I’m aware of, nor were any of them giving up home runs at a record pace. That needs to be solved ASAP, because the other ingredients are there that we haven’t had since the 2015-17 teams.

    Their ceiling as a team is much higher than last October in my opinion and there’s similarities to the 2023 Rangers and last years Bluejays, it’s just too bad that the national league is a buzz saw and that leaves little margin for error with such a flawed pitching staff. The lack of star power and the black hole that’s been third base from 23-25 have been solved to compliment an already deep lineup full of complimentary bats.

    It’s so nice to see PCA adjusting to pitchers attacking him up in the zone and in with high heat. Seiya is rolling over pitches lately, not a good time for a Seiya slump. I hope this is temporary.

    It’s not the Phillies that worry me. The Cubs are more than capable of beating them in a best of 3. A lot would have to go right to get past Milwaukee and LA however.

    Caleb has a long way to go but I’ll take a top six quarterback any day if he can one day be on the level of Jordan Love..

    If you’re not confident in the pen, which is a massive problem in a playoff series when everyone trims the fat off of their pitching staff and increases the work load of their top arms, then how many runs do they need to score? 5? 6? 7? The pitching staff as is will be what we see in October for the most part and Counsell is still throwing darts hoping for something to stick. They can win, as long as they score lots and lots of runs.
