  1. Here Here (or is it Hear Hear!?!). The discussion of the cubs being sold is a good one. And I'll have at it any day! maybe it's "hear, here" The thought of the Cubs being sold seems like a good one, but we all know the pendulum swings both ways. We could get a group (or individual) worse than the trib. . . . .
  2. mjuedes, I'm sorry you've had to take a ripping. Whether you're right or wrong shouldn't take away from having a good conversation about the possibility of the Cubs being sold. Welcome to the boards and I hope your stay is a long one.

    Murton

i'd not complain about that kind of deal :)

    Murton

As long as he's traded smartly for a real upgrade, he can do whatever he wants wherever he wants. I like the guy and he's been pretty good, but there seems to be quite a few people who are on the verge of declaring him "untradeable." I agree. . . . all depends on what we could get for him. If you were a GM what would you give for someone like Murton?

    Murton

Morton in the 2nd half: 203 ABs 9 HR 35 RBI .320 avg .392 obp .527 slugging .919 ops He's not been in the middle of the order, but his RBI are still not too bad (especially considering the poor cubs lineup). Also, I know a season is 2 halves long, however, we're talking about a rookie here. . . . it looks to me like he's growing, learning from his mistakes, and getting better each day. Carlos Lee in the 2nd half 283 AB 11 HR 43 RBI .311 avg .358 obp .512 slg .870 ops Definitely he's been good, and he was even better in the 1st half. I copare Murton to CLee because all indications are that we are a likely spot for Lee. In my opinion, it is better to keep Murton at a reduced salary compared to the 10-12 million (or more) that you'd pay Lee. That extra money could be a big help in building the pitching staff. For my tastes, I'd like to see Pierre go away --- not that I think he's terrible, but he'll be too expensive. I'd move Jones to CF, try to sign Sorianno or Loretta for 2b, and look for a a RF'er. At least the Cubs appear to have options for the off season . . . . . how Hendry will use them is anyone's guess. Something else that's probably been mentioned about Murton, but thus far in his career, he's had what amounts to a full season's worth of work --- 591 total ABs. In that time he's hit .303 / .371 / .835. His RBI total is low (76) but he's not been put in a ton of RBI situations. His 20 homers would put him about where most thought he'd be. I'm no expert by any means, but Murton looks like the real deal. I'd hate to see him set the league on fire for another team.
  6. Lou might scare the guys into winning a game or two, but he's a terrible long term solution. My gut tells me that Donut man will hire Lou or Bowa. . . . or anyone not named Gonzalez, Girardi, Diercker, etc.
  7. why? because nothing would be better than having a team full of pierre's, that's why.
  8. I don't care if Dusty walks and they hire Jesus Christ as the next manager. I'm not spending one cent on the cubs next year --- no mlb extra innings. . . no mlb audio. . .no mlb.tv. . . . NO game tickets. . . no apparell. .. .. . NOTHING, until they prove to me that they are at least trying to put together a legit major league baseball team. I will still keep up with them on nsbb or watch on wgn, but I'm just about tired of putting my heart, soul, and money into this P.O.S. organization.
  9. so he thinks Jim-bo is gonna give him a spanking?
  10. i hate that butthead guys like Mike Schmidt refuse to even vote. In the least, they should not hurt a potential inductee if a ballot is not even filled out.
  11. Baker and Morgan --- your 2007 Academy Award Winner for Best Comedy
  12. Last year I enjoyed watching the sox in the post season. They were fun to watch. Then the Frank Thomas stuff happened. Then Ozzie did his thing. . . over and over and over. So, basically, I've been hating the White Sox all season --- not because I dislike the team, but because Ozzie and Kenny are a couple of asses.
  13. "life's not fair" ---- bhogg's dad (many many times)
  14. so if Hendry wants to hire a complete boob, then he should hire a complete boob. BRILLIANT!
  15. only because I have zero clout with the media.
  16. And hoffman, too ;) Bitter about Lee Arthur? Yes. . .yes, I am. Hoffman is probably the better pitcher, but both were exceptional. Congrats, Trevor Hoffman.[/b]
  17. that's a one way ticket to not get into the HoF. . . . just ask Lee Smith.
  18. nah, he just didn't want to hurt mad dog's feelings by trading him for some scrub rookie. . . . . . grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
  19. mature or not, I was thinking the same thing.
  20. Krispie Kremes are less than 5 bucks a dozen. . . .
  21. if ryno was any kind of athlete, he'd still be playing 2b for the cubs ;)
  22. Jones would be great in CF. If that were to happen, I assume they'd go after a lead-off type at 2b.
  23. Pierre has had a better '06 than '05. It's really not all that close, either. With a young Murton in LF and a less than all-star Jones in RF, Pierre definitely becomes somewhat of a liability but that's not his fault. It's not like he signed the dotted line and said "okay Jim, I'll hit you 20 homers and have an ops of .850 this year." I think Pierre has done exactly what was expected of him. It's not his fault that Hendry failed to put together a better group around Pierre. Pierre isn't this club's problem. Granted, putting Izturis 2nd is dumb, but make no mistake, the Cubs are 30 games below .500 primarily because the pitching has been atrocious. This off season, if the Cubs only make one decent signing, I want it to be a top notch starting pitcher (preferably one with a healthy arm).
  24. 1) DFA all major leaguers except Lee, Z, ARam 2) Call up all Iowa players 3) Hire Girardi 4) Make 07 playoff run 5) profit
