  1. McGriff certainly wasn't to blame in 01. That guy came over and raked -- 973 OPS. I think an over all lack of talent caught up with them that year. That and I recall Gordon burning out in the end --- he was used a ton. It was a pretty fun year, however. I was at Wrigley when McGriff initially turned down the trade --- crazy times. Heck, McGriff wasn't exactly terrible in '02. Things worked out pretty well at 1B for the Cubs, however.
  2. Babe wasn't fat. . . . he was big boned. Trust me, I know these things. I wonder how much of our impression of his size has to do with the rest of society being smaller, not to mention the god-like status we've bestowed upon him.
  3. I think the Babe was a few hot dogs heavier than 215.
  4. It's a huge gamble for the Brewers, assuming that Sabathia is just a rental.
  5. I hope this was your intention. Cardinal fans dont deserve happiness. They deserve the miserable lives they lead. Why? It's not their fault their favorite team is good. Astro fans, on the other hand. . .
  6. It'd be nice to be in the Cardinals' or Yankees' shoes for once. It could still happen. The Cubs have the talent (when everyone is healthy) to reel off another 12 out of 15 or something similar. I don't know if the Brewers or Cardinals have that possibility right now. But you're right, going wire to wire would be great. Of course, there's the argument that cruising in September / October is bad news. . .. players aren't on their toes, etc.
  7. Phil Rogers seems to think Marmol will get the nod via player vote. What are the players thinking? Better yet, what does Rogers think the players are thinking?
  8. It would be nice for the Cubs to run away with it, but that kind of thing rarely happens. Face it, we're in for a major dog fight with SL and Milwaukee. It'll be fun. . . . frustrating at times, but fun. At the end of the day, it's still a game meant for our entertainment.
  9. We can't make the trip to atlanta this year --- $250 per night hotels and $4+ / gallon gas is a big no no right now. I have aisle seats -- sec 144R, row 15, seats 1-4. From what I'm told, this is actually the 3rd row in left field. I bought them on stub hub for $120, but I'm willing to take offers. I want a little money back, but I really want some Cub fans in the seats instead of braves fans or empties. I'll leave this up for a week or two before going the stub hub or ebay route.
  10. Does this guy know that Edmonds wanted to stay in St Louis?
  11. Who was the moronic announcer that said all Edmonds has contributed to the cubs is power -- his average is bad, etc?? I think it was the Giant's crew. Edmonds is hitting a nice .290 or so with the Cubs and has an OPS of .973. Keep it going, Jimmy!
  12. I turned the game off after the 3 run bomb. have we tied it up yet???
  13. Jeez, the Cubs need 'pen help way more than starter help. This is kinda frustrating.
  14. I do what I can, bhogg. Unless, I mess up and post a pic of cat poop again. Then you'd be out of luck until I come back. I thought that was human poop. I've never seen a cat drop a growler of that quality or girth.
  15. I think ticket prices should be raised.
  16. What if I hate everyone? Okay, what if I hate everyone but Vance? I'd still get cub news, game threads, and trade updates. So, as long as Vance is your buddy, you'll be okay ,right? Come on folks, we're all cub fans. Be excellent to each other!
  17. How about a "Congrats Ramirez Family" thread?
  18. we're in first place with the best record in the NL. Things could be worse.
  19. can someone tell me if the Sox have made any kind of adjustments when pitching to Aramis Ramirez?
  20. Does Joe Morgan not know what a 12 to 6 curve is? Marshall isn't throwing a 12 to 6. . . . .
  21. does Joe Morgan know what a 12-to-6 curve ball is?
  22. I blame Quade. I don't think he reminded Theriot to "make the line drive go through."
  23. I bet Jesus could get some people out.
  24. wow. Walks abound and now we decide to swing at everything.
