  1. I hope those sighing at a Cliff Floyd aquisition realize that Cliff Floyd may very well be the best case scenario in right field next year :(
  2. Don't worry, I've already hired someone to bust Dusty's kneecaps everytime he starts Wilson above 6th in the order. Always glad to help
  3. Patterson, Hill, Mitre, and a prospect for Wilkerson and Livan Hernandez? Sign me up...
  4. No, I don't want him for his 2005 numbers. But I'd sure take his 2004 or 2003 numbers. There's little to nothing to suggest that this season wasn't a fluke, and I'm sure playing, AGAIN, on a team that was eliminated before the season began didn't help anything. I expect him to hit at least .290/.350/.480/.830 next season, while smacking 30 homeruns. And he can play 1st, 3rd, and right or left. I'll take it. For once, just ONCE, can't we buy low? He would be a perfect part of the team next year. Even if you just use him as a 4th outfielder and let him spell Derrek Lee and Aram fairly often. Aram is going to need a little rest if we want to keep him fresh all year. We saw how never resting probably drug down DLee's numbers as the year went on. He could be incredibly useful on the team next year, and if we can't get Giles would be perfectly adequate in right.
  5. Difference is, if you take the $12 mil off their hands, they're going to have to give you something else of value just to get the money gone. For better or worse, Mitre/Wellemeyer/Leicester don't seem to have much of a future in this organization. If you could dump a few of them off and get back Vazquez and a near MLB ready position player at a position we could use somebody at, why not?
  6. Any idea what it would take to get Dotel? I'm not sure how long his injury is going to keep him out, any hope of a Dempster/Williamson type contract? I really hope they pick up Williamson's option by the way, he's a solid 2 million dollar gamble.
  7. Sign Ryan to pitch the 8th, pretty sure I remember him saying recently that he didn't HAVE to be a closer, just on a team that can win. It's good strategy, get your guys signed so nobody has a chance, so you can focus on trades and signing new guys. Hopefully Nomar agrees to a bargain 1 year deal soon :D
  8. No, my wife wouldn't. She thinks she's a bitch who broke up Brad & Jen  Now, Jessica Simpson, I think I could get some play on...
  9. What I do. 1) resign Nomar, no way do I pass him up unless he wants the same contract he had this year. 4 to 5 million plus incentives. If he gets hurt, your insurance will cover it (well, I assume). More on what I do with him in a second. 2) sign Brian Giles to play center field. He's got 116 innings in there this year, no errors. He may not be a defensive god, but he'll do just fine. 3) Matt Murton has an outfield job which is his to lose. Put him in the corner you don't put Nomar Garciaparra (yes, I'm going there, move Nomar to the outfield). I'd love to see Matt play winter ball, and play right field, working on arm strength. The best place to put Nomar, and keep him healthy, is left field, in my opinion. 4) Pickup Todd Walker's contract, and trade him to the Minnesota Twins for Joe Nathan. Pick up all of Todd's salary if need be. 5) convert Ronny Cedeno to second base. 6) sign Rafeal Furcal to play shortstop. We certainly have the money available this off season to sign Giles, Furcal, and Nomar. Probably looking at under $25 million there for all 3. How is THIS for a lineup? Furcal Giles Lee Ramirez Garciaparra Barrett Murton Cedeno Anyone doubt that if DLee hits 40+ homers again, he'll have a lot more than 105 RBI'S?
  10. Thing is, they're saying that Nomar may be open to a position change. So why not try to get him for $4 million plus another $6 in incentives if he does well, and put him in left field? Sign Giles to play left, and either play Ronny at short, or sign Furcal to play short. How about this lineup Furcal - SS Walker - 2B Lee - 1B Aram - 3B Giles - RF Garciaparra - LF Barrett - C "god only knows" - CF Not bad, not bad at all. In the above scenario, I send Matt Murton to winter ball to play Center Field, with the instruction to specifically work on his arm strength so he can adequately play the position. And then, spring training, it's a shootout between him, Patterson, and Hairston. Presuming in a perfect world that Patterson rebounds, then you still have Hairston, Cedeno, and Murton on the bench as the primary backups, giving everyone all the rest they could need, and keeping everyone healthy. And if there's an injury, we have adequate protection. Sign Nomar for 4, Furcal for 10 for 3 years, Giles for about the same.
  11. I just have this gut feeling that Nomar is going to train like a madman this offseason and be healthy next year. Don't know why. Maybe it's the blue kool-aid. Anyway, I offer $3 million with another 1 mil per 100 plate appearances, plus another few million in statistical or award incentives. So $3 million if he gets hurt in a week, up to to 10+ if he's healthy. Perfectly fair.
  12. My feelings on the matter Barry without steroids - one of the greatest hitters statistically of all time Barry with steroids - well on his way to being the greatest hitter statistically of all time And it's the latter which makes me sick...
  13. Hmm, while I realize that being "in division" is a deal killer, what about the Cubs getting in a deal between the Marlins & Mets? Just off of the top of my head Cubs get - Carlos Beltran and Lowell Mets get - Corey Patterson and Delgado Marlins get - Murton, Mitre, and a whole bunch more. Obviously what the Cubs give up on the above would be more and maybe the players would be different, but anyway, you get the point. Mets pick up a good chunk of Beltran's salary I suppose. Seems like something that might work out, Mets get out from under the worst contract anyone's ever given  , they get a power threat like Delgado. Can move Cameron back to center. Diaz & Floyd on the corners should be more than enough. In this scenario we take Lowell as an extremely high priced reserve (could he play outfield at all in case of injury?).
  14. I could see the Cubs getting involved, but not keeping either player (unless Delgado is willing to play left field), more likely a middleman team shipping out the prospects needed and getting a nice return.
  15. I don't quite get that reaction. The guy is a famous Cubs fan, and most of what he said in his answers were good stuff. Only thing that might piss people off here was the comments on Sox haters  Anyway, I have to strongly disagree with the "crap music" bit, Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness is a classic. Siamese Dream is excellent. And I've thought since it came out that Machina/The Machines of God was highly underrated.
  16. here's hoping for the Sox to choke out all together, and the Yankees to get bounced in 3 games in the first round :D Or the all more improbable Athletics leapfrogging both as both collapse starting...NOW
  17. I can't believe we're talking about rushing another Patterson to the big leagues  Let him play AA next year and AAA the next...
  18. Just say no, we need OBP more than we need power. Corey with his head on straight after winter ball (and fast approaching free agency where hopefully he'll realize he needs to get off his ass to make some money) could easily outdo Hunter's offensive line, at half the cost and not costing us players. Not that I advocate Corey being our primary choice in center field next year, but if you can't do better than Hunter, don't bother.
  19. can we bet on the Cubs not making the playoffs and still make a profit?
  20. Move Blanco and his family to wherever Barrett is living this winter. Have them work all winter on catching skills. Problem solved.
  21. Please don't, it's my first thread to get so many replies  And anyway, it's good comedic relief. And boy, Dusty must be trying to make sure we don't accidentily make the playoffs with last nights game. Mitre with people on base in a 1 run game we had to win? Wow...
  22. I'll be very happy for Neifi if he can turn this season into a starting job with another team, especially if it's the Cardinals  Of course, then we get to see Neifi put up a .320/.380/.420/.800 line next year....
  23. You know, Dusty must be TRYING to make sure we don't stumble into the playoffs. I mean, starting Macias in RF, using Mitre in an extremely important game. Just, wow...
  24. Now this would make a great fundraiser, everyone donate a few bucks to NSBB and Tim place the donations as a bet on the Cubs to make the playoffs. If we pull off a mircale, it just might pay for this site for a few years
  25. I like that lineup, but lets not write off Giles just to get Murton in there. In theory (as in, Dusty gets a brain transplant off season), you could bring Murton along as the 4th outfielder. There's going to be plenty of starts available in that outfield for a 4th guy. Make Murton your first right handed bat off of the bench in games he doesn't play. To facilitate this, I ask Murton to play center field in winter ball this year. Yes, I know, he doesn't have a rocket for an arm. But surely a winter of playing center field at a high level would leave him able to play that spot adequately. We're talking a maximum of maybe 10 to 15 starts there all year. If you get Murton 15 starts on average (as, he might spell Nomar more than Giles) at each outfield spot, and make him the DH in all AL interleague games, that's a good 50 starts next year plus pinch hitting all the time. And of course, in my scenario we probably have Corey or Hairston fighting for the CF job, and you tell Murton to really bust his butt learning CF in winter ball, because it isn't going to be real hard to outplay those two unless Corey bounces back.
