  1. So long as Lou hires a competent staff, whatever, lets just hear the news and get it over with. I mean, is it too much to ask to want the best pitching coach and the best hitting coach?
  2. Perhaps that's why Lou is saying something, he might not feel he's getting the consideration he deserves, and probably wants to drive his price up elsewhere. :D
  3. I'm almost to the point of saying "screw it" and wanting them to hire the minor league guys for a year. At least then if it isn't working out we can hopefully get a better choice, and not just settle. Not to knock Joe, he's a Cub, and I think if given the job he'll do well, but when the best answers are Joe Girardi, Bob Brenly, and Lou Piniella...you were probably asking the wrong question.
  4. Didn't I read that A-Rod and Lou Piniella have a good relationship? Wouldn't that be a kicker, if he decides to waive his no trade to wherever Lou goes. I'm not sure if Lou + Arod would get me to choose Lou :?
  5. Well, if the Dodgers would trade Drew for Dempster, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
  6. If Listach really had a hand in creating the new Rich Hill, heh, I'd love to see him get a job. 3rd base coach? Any reason that a 3rd base coach can't work with pitchers before games? If not I'd love to see all of our coaches be actual coaches. Ryno for First Base Coach? :D
  7. And unless his request is unreasonable Jim-bo, pay the tab...
  8. If the pegs are Soriano and Theriot, and the holes are 2B and CF, it'd be anyones guess which one fits best in the CF hole.
  9. Heh, someone brought up a crazy idea of moving The Riot to center field but nobody commented. How crazy of an idea is it? I'm not real familiar with Theriot before his cub career this year. Any chance in hell of sending him to winter ball to play center and him coming back serviceable.
  10. Batting coach perhaps? Put him under a guy like Gonzalez and let him learn for four or five years. Afterwards we might not mind Ryno the manager.
  11. It'll be interesting, I'd imagine if they were to release him they couldn't get the contract paid for by insurance. Not sure about the specifics of if they just DFA's him, he cleared waivers, and was "assigned" to Iowa or something.
  12. By the time he collects his check next season, he'll have made $15 million dollars, unless he's been as bad with his finances as with his pitches, heh, he's set for life. Not like he's a potential hall of famer fighting for his legacy. Just retire Glendon, enjoy your money, and don't look back.
  13. While it may be mildly cruel to look for silver linings in these things, if he really is unable to play for a year, then his contract for next season should be covered by the Cubs insurance policy. Meaning that's another two and a half million we can use next year, I'd assume. Anyway, on topic, get well Glendon and best of luck in life, bank that five million nest-egg Jim gave you and ride off into the sunset, and enjoy your family...
  14. Cesar for Manny + cash
  15. How about we just get a good manager who realizes that our choices, thusfar, for 2B and SS in 2007 are Ryan Theriot Ronny Cedeno Cesar Freaking Arthritic Piece of Crap Izturis And put the best pegs in the best holes, so to speak. To me, worst case Theriot and Cedeno up the middle, perhaps bring in an upgrade at one of the positions and let the guys duke it out as they may. They both need to prove themselves. I want to see both in winter ball.
  16. Don't worry, he was probably scolded after the game...
  17. I sure can. 5/75 was his ceiling for Beltran, who was also coming off of a career year going into a big contract. Which, coincidentily, here are each lines in said contract year. .267/.367/.548/.915 (Beltran) .293/.362/.597/.959 (Soriano) No doubt in my mind that Hendry views both equally and will probably think 5/75 is a steal.
  18. One does not need to have the skills to avoid defeat to know why one was defeated.
  19. Schmidt please. Less years and less dollars, and Zito doesn't impress me enough to spend what it will take, which I'm guessing is 4/60 though I wouldn't be shocked to see some idiot make that 5/75. With Schmidt, your rotation next year shapes up as Zambrano Schmidt Hill Prior/Marshall/Marmol/Mateo/Guzman/etc. get two starting spots. Monkey wrench of course being whether Hendry brings back Maddux or not for a third go-round.
  20. All the more reason to let Pierre walk and put Jacque in center, since his numbers there would be well above league average, I'd imagine.
  21. The big question is do the Cubs wait until the offseason to pick him up off of the scrap heap, or do they just do it now and let him take Murton's at bats the rest of the year? devil face because it wouldn't surprise me...
  22. Mulder is the type of guy who, if he were healthy around spring training and wanted to come in for a shot, I don't mind. But if he's going to play hardball and demand a 40 man roster spot, no way. Make him earn it.
  23. And even if you remove Ryan from the closers role, if he's pitching in the 7th inning and doing well, you're going to have a tradeable chip. Right now I think we could move him, but for a mid-level prospect and us eating cash. If he can get back into it with regular work, you might get a major league ready player in exchange.
  24. What should happen is the full Iowa Cubs staff should be taking over for the last month. Trade Pierre today to anyone, who cares. Either move Mabry or cut him. Same for Glendon. Then, play the kids and play all the kids. Theriot at second. Cedeno at shortstop. Pie in center. Bring up Restovich and bat him against every lefty in place of Jacque.
