  1. Canario's short stint in the MLB shows him ranked as the 3rd fastest bat speed in the MLB behind Stanton and Oneil Cruz per BB Savant. Ahead of guys like Judge and Schwarber. Massive raw power there. Hit a HR today. Would like to see him recalled soon. Matt Chapman is 4th right now. PCA now ranks 3rd in sprint speed per BB Savant.
  2. This month is an easy schedule. This was their chance to make up ground. Imanaga can have a bad day. Why these hitters make every SP look like Greg Maddux I have no idea. Something is very off. There's no scapegoats here for me. A lot of staff and players are failing at their jobs and are better than what they've shown. No position player on this team is getting my All-Star vote.
  3. Much rather have Soto if we're spending big FA money. Age is on his side. I'd sign Soto, enjoy several prime years, and trade him when he's around 30 y/o. I'd throw him a few extra million to avoid the no trade clause for the inconvenience. He'll probably age better than most though since a solid chunk of his value is the walks and plate discipline, which I assume ages better than more physical tools.
  4. Leiter's pretty good considering he's pretty average or below on a lot of other tools, I'm not expecting much else from him besides the split, which is one of the game's elite pitches with one the top whiff rates of any pitch in MLB. Probably skewed a but since he sees mostly LHB. Still a great pitch i assume is at times hard to control, especially if its hot & muggy and he's sweating.
  5. Next CBA i imagine.
  6. Jed's replacement will be Tom's computer algorithm that makes stock picks for him. Eventually players will be AI robots too, more profitable and exciting (180 mph fastballs, 900ft moon-shots. Innings in a game changed from 9 to 7 for the tiktok generation. Boog replaced with a Harry Caray voicebot. The future looks bright!
  7. Well that was wild. I hope they don't run Leiter into the ground again.
  8. Good post. I've never seen Hoyer's Cubs act in bad faith like re: suppressing Neris' innings so I'm not counting on that to happen, unless there's injury. Would be nice if the Cubs could sign Danny Jansen. Length would be the question, he'll be 30 as a catcher but in-demand. I wonder if 3 years with a option for a 4th or maybe 5th is possible.
  9. Below-average hit tool, average to below average power, below average plate discipline. The elite speed will raise his AVG, OBP, and SLG. Maybe eventually something like .250/.305/.440 with around 15 HR, stretching an extra base out of a bunch of singles and doubles, and bunch of SB. So I think there's a path to being above-average offensively. He still needs lots of PA's I think, he just turned 22 and lost 2 years to COVID and injury.
  10. He was at 96 pitches. I would hope the Cubs manager doesn't care at all about a player's personal stats over what he thinks is the best decision for the win column both short and longterm, which includes pitcher health.
  11. Expected stats say they've been unlucky though.
  12. They're also last in MLB in BABIP. I can't remember if that's for the whole year or since May 1st, but it's terrible and will get better. It was around .300 last year, better than average.
  13. He had over 20% HR/fb last year and 23.1% as a reliever.
  14. Michael Babushka has a higher wRC+ than Alonso and worth 50% more fWAR (1.5 vs 1.0)
  15. On the plus, hopefully they'd be 19 years old in low-A ball and several years away from helping the team or being old enough to enter an alcohol-serving establishment.
  16. Looked into some numbers at Baseball Savant. Morel, Swanson, and Amaya have been greatly unlucky according to expected stats like xBA, xSLG, xwOBA. All of their xBA is around .255. Nico is also trailing in xBA. Hang in there folks. However, Busch's BA is about 30 points higher than his xBA (around .223). Oddities: Leiter's splitter has generated the 5th most whiffs in the MLB. Truly elite pitch. Imanaga's 4-seamer is tied for 2nd in total run value for any pitch in the MLB (helped greatly by how much he throws it). Assad's sinker is tied for 12th. PCA is tied for being the 3rd fastest player in the MLB despite MLB.com grading him a 60 run tool.
  17. 3.97 ERA as a reliever, 5.93 FIP, 2.28 HR/9. Sucking bawls.
  18. Love seeing the success of Estrada and Megill on division rivals while this pen are trash. Megill is throwing 100mph and Estrada has over 15 k/9
  19. Cubs suck, let's look ahead for fun. Free agents this offseason are, to my count: Hendricks, Gomes, Smyly. Plus Barnhart, Mancini, Bote off the books = about 46m total. Most are just old and post-prime. Also possible is Bellinger walking (but not trending that way). 46m to fix catcher, the pen, find a 3B, and possibly another BORP/MORP SP. They could trade one of Happ/Suzuki/Bellinger, also Morel, plus any prospects on the table. 3B FA's: Bregman, Drury, and Chapman if he opts-out. SS/2b who maybe could play 3B: Adames, Torres Catchers: Danny Jansen
  20. Hate is strong word. I hate this team.
  21. At least the Brewers had a pen and their rebuild didn't take 3 years and counting. Craig Counsell isn't magic. The Brewers org is just better. They have a $120m payroll FFS.
  22. This team is a sad sack of sorry losers. They were sorry losers last Sept too. When the going gets tough roll over and die is the motto. You can't win when the offense is useless through the first 5-6 innings and the pen is useless through the rest of the game. Just put everyone on the DL and call up the entire Iowa roster at this point.
  23. Where's the magic fairy dusk this guy was supposedly farting out in Milwaukee? Fart it out all over the Cubs' faces. It was all lies. Like the Dusty Baker Giants "getting most out of his team" nonsense.
  24. Wesneski and Neris are total garbage. Can Assad or somebody teach Wesneski how to throw a fb? This team needs major changes immediately. Neris out as closer, call a hitter up from Iowa tonight. Write the lineup out backwards. Do something. Make some adjustments. This piece of crap offense can't hit any SP. NOBODY. Change the entire BP routine. For the love of *****.
  25. I like questions like this. Another thing I've thought about is what pitchers a hitter (or team) hits well or not against. For instance, when a team is down especially by multiple runs they will typically bring in their worst relievers. Are there hitters who do much of their damage against those kinds of pitchers, which doesn't have as much value as hitting against a SP or better relievers who only pitch during leads or close games? And for a team, the runs scored/against stat can be skewed by teams that win or lose in blowout fashion more than other teams. Winning or losing by 1-3 runs vs by 4+ runs is irrelevant, a win is a win, loss is a loss. Blowouts will pad stats but are totally irrelevant to winning/losing. So run "efficiency", I would guess, may differ among teams with similar stats and/or records and might matter (no idea). I also don't think the stats us fans have access to (like wRC+ and WAR) that we use to evaluate players factor situational stats like hitting with RISP or runners on. Some of that can be random, but not so much over larger samples (multiple years).
