  1. Several guys on this team including Counsell are getting visibly frustrated. Hard to blame them. But pressing isn't going to do any good either, so that's worrisome. Amaya is underwhelming, Gomes has been horrible, Busch has major swing and miss issues and holes in his plate coverage, and pitchers are mostly staying away on Morel with breaking and offspeed stuff where he hasn't adjusted which has been the story on him every season after a hot start, while his defense is terrible. That's 3 positions where we have issues that may not be fixed on their own, though Bellinger can always play 1B if needed. Hoping the other more established guys can turn it around offensively like Happ has.
  2. I saw Suzuki rubbing his oblique a game or 2 ago, more like the lat muscle under the armpit. I was concerned then. Thought hopefully it was just a habit from during the injury beforehand. He got hit in the ribs today, I think it's the other side (left), I imagine that can hurt when it hits bone, hopefully nothing serious.
  3. Well Hodge and Little walked lots of guys in the minors. For all the players who have struggled this year I blame the players themselves first and foremost. Guys like Little and Hodge are who they are though.
  4. I famously hate watching him play RF lol. 13 career games as DH, could be classified as a sample size thing at this point.
  5. Cubs still having major issues scoring. off the SP, even the crappy ones.
  6. Why is Tauchman DH'ing and Suzuki in RF? Should be the opposite.
  7. But Mookie Betts is signed to a contract until the year 2032, until about age 40 for him. The Dodgers aren't paying 30m for 6 WAR, it's a lot higher than that. Happ, Cody, Suzuki we have signed through their prime years, and Swanson for maybe 3-4 seasons outside his prime years. Nobody should be judging those contracts or those player decisions based on April and May of one season. How many of us wouldn't have taken those 4 players before the season started?
  8. Acquiring a new catcher could improve some things, but also we need to consider how it would affect the pitching staff and pitching results bringing in a new guy we probably want to catch most of the time who doesn't know the pitchers. With catching I think we're screwed unless there's someone in the minors they want to try who has experience working with some of the guys or from ST. Amaya is also out of options.
  9. The only sucking that's potentially likely to continue over the rest of the reason is our catchers, and possibly our pen especially if there's more pitching injuries. So right now I think the FO should do nothing except keep their eyes looking at the reliever and maybe catcher market and waiver wire for help or depth. Busch may also just not be able to hit well enough as an MLB'er, who knows, but we have Bellinger as backup. The hitting in May is very likely just bad luck so not much else to do but wait for guys to hit better.
  10. Stuff happens, the part that PO'd me was Swanson just gave up. I'm mean not terrible if you're between 1st and 2nd but if you're 40 ft from home plate you run the home and hope the throw hits you in the back or something. The 9th inning Madrigal play....i give credit to the LF and De La Cruz for executing perfectly. But with Bellinger up next and 1 out you don't send Madrigal. Belli puts the ball in play and in the air. His flyball would have scored him. I have no idea if the baserunning blunders are on the players, base coaches, Counsell, or what. Maybe a combo. And they don't seem to be learning. You make 1 mistake fine, but they keep happening.
  11. I guess the whole thing with Counsel squeezing the most out of his players is a myth? It's probably an organizational thing for the Brewers, along with some luck and just being really good at picking out value by the FO. They sold off or lost key guys and didn't even have a rebuilt yet ours took 2 years of sucking and prospects are still in the minors. Counsell's been mostly solid based on lineups and managing pitching but I don't see any magic or special abilities. He's better than Ross except for the running game
  12. I'm all for some risk with sends with 2 outs, but the number of puts we've had between 3rd and home this year especially less than 2 puts is crazy.
  13. I know this is sarcasm because i've never seen Dansby hustle in my life.

Morel's OAA and runs prevented has been almost twice as bad in May as April. He's the worst fielder in the MLB this year among fulltime fielders according to Savants total "Fielding Run Value" stat which uses all statcast measurements. I agree that per the eyeball test he's seemed better in May. Don't think he's made as many throwing errors or other errors. But apparently he's just not getting to balls. He has been unlucky offensively apparently, but he also has -0.1 WAR so far this year. He has been banged up though. Unless they want him to be a DH longterm they just need to keep him at 3B for most of the year to keep learning and develop instincts or send him to AAA. So far in his career he's been a pretty big failure for the Cubs in terms of handling the development of his fielding. Someone as raw as him should never have been molded as a supersub.
  15. If he lesrns to drive the outside pitches the other way or to CF he'll be quite the hitter.
  16. Grab one of the nobodies from AAA at this point.

It's irrelevant to his overall value as an offensive player yes, but not to his development or evaluating his tools/abilities.
  18. Cubs are dead last in MLB in runs scored from April 27 to May 27. In April they scored the 2nd most runs in MLB.
  19. If our starter can no hit them again we have a decent shot at winning this in extra innings again.

Our hitting sucks right now and he's not a good hitter. I think he needs most of the year in AAA ideally. They aren't going to bench e.g. Happ or Busch everyday for PCA. His hitting numbers have always been inflated because of his speed and masks a bunch of his deficits at the plate. Beating out grounders inflates his AVG, OBP, and SLG. Taking extra bases inflates the SLG. He needs a lot of work with the bat and will probably always be below average at the plate with a chance to be average or somewhat above average overall offensively because of the speed.
  21. Not sure i agree. Hoyer has hardly put any money in terms of AAV into SP. Besides Stroman. This same offense was 3rd in NL in runs scored last year. They spent like 28m aav to bring back Cody. They'll come around.
  22. Maybe the hitters will decide to wake up before the 9th inning this time.
  23. Honestly, you play 3B once a week what do you expect? Nobody's launching 105mph fungos at him. Do players even take batting practice on the field anymore with fielders? LOL Seems like every grounder over 100mph the left side of this infield can't handle.
  24. It's not that they're even just slumping bad, they're playing like total garbage. Sloppy defense, terrible baserunning. Looks like Spring Training hasn't ended yet. If you can't hit then at least play the ball and run the bases well. Do these infielders only take grounders in pratice from 45mph fungos?
