  1. Took a few hours for the Dodgers to spend most of their Soto AAV money LOL.
  2. I'm not watching this team next year. Ricketts can't hang with the big boys.
  3. I want to spend Christmas at the Soto family's house this year.
  4. MLB Network just said there's apparently escalator's that could put this over 800m. Apparently Yankees offered 16/760. Imagine losing that bid. This is insane. Jed's gonna get that extension now hahaha
  5. So does this take the Dodgers out of the Soto hunt? Seems like it. Edit: Guess that's a yes.
  6. Exactly. If they can get their money's worth out of their signings they could project several wins better than 83, especially if they make a trade. Their pythag wins was 88, which i don't take as their "true wins" but is at least on the right side of encouraging. Also this convo is about timing and when they sign, which is different than who they sign or what the rest of the 26-man looks like. Cubs were "aggressive" on Matthew Boyd and fans aren't overjoyed just because they signed him early. I don't care when they sign another catcher or SP/reliever I just care who it is and how much they paid.
  7. Agree with all of this. With the caveat they avoid overpaying for lower talent signings, which Jed's had some issues with previously. Matthew Boyd pending.
  8. Hindsight is 20/20. Would you have taken a 5/120 or 6/145 deal instead?
  9. So you measure his ability to wait out a market by the number of wins on the board? That makes no sense whatsoever. Measure the moves themselves. He's done pretty well at the trade deadlines. Everybody wanted Belli back and we avoided a longterm deal. Jed and this org has had issues but I don't think timing a market is one of them.
  10. I'm not really concerned. From trade deadlines and offseasons past we know that if Jed is good at anything it's how to wait out a market. He's been doing the offseason dance since around 2002 so I have to trust he knows what he's doing. Hopefully Soto is signed soon which should move things along. Even if they wait things out I don't care, but its frustrating for us fans Only position that could be concerning is catcher, but Jed does surprising deals all the time. We didn't think we'd get Busch or Paredes. We have no idea how they're thinking or how they even evaluate that position because of the intangibles and small sample sizes etc
  11. Seiya Suzuki.
  12. If Seiya moves to RF and they trade Bellinger and they use any combo of our Iowa prospects at DH (plus any other bench guy they may sign) they have a decent chance to find a path for those guys to get to the 110 wRC+ Bellinger is projected. They do lose some defense in RF though. They'd also have the option to trade for some cheap DH option. Let's say the difference is 1-2 WAR in those scenarios. They still save 27 million which can be used to upgrade elsewhere and the projected WAR on paper for those players will be well above 1-2 WAR. So i understand why they're trying to ship Bellinger.
  13. SF could use a good CF too though. Unless they have a prospect i don't know about?
  14. Exact same deal as Dansby.
  15. He's Ronnie Woo-Woo's nephew.
  16. Yeah, they get a full year from Parades over Morel, and Boyd and whatever RP and catcher they sign can't only do better than Hendricks, Neris, and Gomes. If they make a trade they may add wins as well. There's definitely a path to 85-88 wins. But Busch/Imanaga could regress a bit as should Taillon, plus Nico from the injury. I'd peg them at 85 wins.
  17. Nice, thank you.
  18. Make sense if he wanted to be the #1 catcher somewhere to get playing time. Amaya started 107 games at catcher. Matt Thaiss is not going to be our 3rd catcher with no options left. He's either our #2 or he's going to traded/DFA'd.
  19. Jansen signed to Ray's on a solid 1 yr deal. It's going to be Matt Thaiss isn't it?
  20. Something to consider is that the Cubs met with Craig Counsell last offseason in total secrecy until that signing was announced. Given all the rumors about trades to free up payroll there is a chance they've met with Soto and are trying to find a way to make it happen on the payroll.
  21. Same
  22. If the Dodgers get Sasaki they have a rotation of Sasaki, Ohtani, Yamamoto, Snell, and Glasnow. Has a team ever had 5 legit aces in a rotation?
  23. What is nice with all these rumors is that if true it seems that Jed is trying hard to find a way to improve the team, looking for trades and whatnot. You've gotta think some kind of trade happens, and likely sooner than later since any money freed would give them more flexibility in FA before more players are signed by other teams.
  24. They're not trading their best hitter Seiya with hitting lineup they have, unless they intend to try to sign Soto, which seems like a pipe dream. But if that were the case keeping Seiya over Bellinger would seem a no brainer.
  25. Yes if Seiya moves back to RF then anyone in the org can play DH. Shaw, Cassie, Mervis, Alcantara, Triantos, Canario, Ballesteros etc. They could all compete in ST and throughout the season, and maybe have a platoon. Chance they could sign a cheaper guy like JD Martinez too. I have no idea what they'd do with the money saved on Bellinger though if they aren't interested in Soto or a top SP. They're not big pen spenders.
