  1. Yeah I think Counsell is likely letting SP go an extra inning here and there, given our shaky pen. If so I get it but that's a dangerous game to play. Unless it's a do-or-die game or the playoffs I don't really agree with riding pitchers, i'd rather a SP healthy than rolling the dice on health and trying to squeeze more innings. Under Hoyer it always seems to be because the pen is lacking. Like when Ross rode Alzolay/Merryweather/Leiter in 2023 because everyone else was meh. It points to a consistent organization failure to acquire or develop enough pen talent.
  2. Also need to get guys out in the field to win too. If the Cubs want Ballesteros to be a catcher he needs to get those defensive reps in the minors, he's still only 21 y/o. His bat looks pretty much ready though. Still think they'd prefer him staying down for most of the year. Hopefully Shaw gets going soon and is back up in the next month or so.
  3. Yes. We play Miami/White Sox/Miami though next 3 series, hopefully they get back on track.
  4. Berti is replacement level. Gage and Shaw stunk it up.
  5. Good point, never thought about the organ like that. Organ is more pleasant on the ears than big booming music/sounds. An organ won't give you a headache after a while.
  6. Pete Alonso has a terrible, terrible haircut. Mets pen has some nasty arms. Hodge's slider hasn't had quite the same bite the last couple of weeks. You can't really see the strikezone overlay on the FOX broadcast. My ability to judge ball/strike without the overlay has eroded horribly since its inception. Homeplate umps get a hard time but most do a better job than we give credit. JD gives umps a hard time most times a strike is called a few inches outside (former pitcher PTSD) but I doubt he would without the overlay. Umps have never been more accurate in the history of baseball. 85% accurate this year on borderline (shadow) calls, a new record.
  7. Solid debut for Horton. A couple of lefties hit the slider in the zone really hard (including the HR hanger), but was getting whiffs/chase on it outside the zone. Threw one really nasty sweeper that broke like a cutter but I didn't one move like that again, the others had more vertical break Curve looked ok. Kinda surprised he went back out for that last inning and threw as many ptiches as he did (debuts must be exhausting with all the adrenaline & everything else going on), but did fine.
  8. I noticed this in game 1. Literally between every single pitch they have to play some music. or crowd-hype sounds. In Toronto (hockey town) they do the same for the Jays games. In-person it starts giving you a headache by the 5th inning. I feel bad for season ticket holders at these stadiums.
  9. It was never sustainable. They've also faced some really good pitchers in the last week.
  10. I don't think the Cubs want a player until the year 2033 for that price even if Sox eat significant salary. And especially one that has proven to cause issues publicly if the team wants him to switch positions, which the Cubs would probably do at some point. I see them only moving for a 3B upgrade if Shaw comes back up and doesn't do well. Even then, the priority will very likely be pitching for us at the deadline.
  11. JD i think said they don't want to skip rest on all the SP. Wouldn't just affect Taillon. The nice thing about the Mets is it would be a road start, which would be less pressure. Though it is NY. They could also use another reliever as an opener, which would again be less pressure. I remember Kerry Wood's first start was in Montreal with a small crowd there. Ultimate low pressure environment for a touted young pitcher.
  12. Mets offense is good but not great. Their pitching has been their real strength.
  13. Pen didn't give up 9 runs in 1 inning though.
  14. Win blowing in hard from LF. Not a big factor in RF
  15. Seems like a good chance Horton comes up. Wicks started today so won't be available on Sat. Either Horton or a pen game where maybe Fkexen would give you 40-50 pitches.
  16. He's gotta be still hurt so they're using him sparingly. Extras created a need i wager.
  17. To be fair to Pressly, he didn't give up any runs since March vs AZ.
  18. Do we even have a closer right now? We're 1 or 2 arms short yet again. Might be IL time for Pressly.
  19. But would you pay 30m for a 3 WAR position player? And ones who are prone to injury including surgeries where you're out 1-2 years.
  20. If Imanaga goes to the IL and they decide they don't want to bring up Horton for whatever reason my guess is Flexen gets some starts and they activate Tyson Miller.
  21. Cubs pen tied for 2nd for most BS, tied for 5th in losses. 22nd in pen ERA.
