  1. No I'm not saying they shouldn't sign him for like 10/400. I haven't really thought about it. I'm saying they probably won't. I'm not sure him being here already changes the math for them much.
  2. Well it usually takes some stupid money to win the bid on a mega-contract, and Jed isn't stupid and Tom is cheap. Would be nice if they re-sign him but i'm not expecting it.
  3. Not sure the price matters since the Cubs very likely won't be the highest bidder. Ricketts putting out more than double he's ever paid for a player.... don't see it happening. Tucker trade probably let's Hoyer keep his job and gets Cubs in playoffs. Mission accomplished.
  4. Cub offense is 25th in runs scored in June, and around the same in wRC+. April was more funner. 2nd best ERA in MLB in June though.
  5. PCA and Amaya both started off very slow last season. Just from what i've seen, Shaw just hasn't been getting the barrel on the ball much. Not getting off great swings. Getting jammed a lot, chasing some low pitches and putting them in play but not hitting them too hard. He's made a lot of adjustments. His stance isn't closed anymore, and the leg kick is smaller, so maybe he just needs some time. Not giving up on him, but it sucks that Cam Smith has a full run higher in WAR so far and a 131 wRC+ since May 1, and the K% is down to around 25%. We'll see Smith and co. soon in Houston.
  6. Probably a combo of seeing good teams/pitching on the road and half the batting order hitting a bit of a lull lately. I'm sure the lads will start hitting again soon enough. Hopefully getting back to Wrigley will help. Seems kinda like Tucker leads the ship.
  7. Turner is hitting .306/.344/.450 over the last 30 days including today's game.
  8. Alcantara needs to play every day. Brujan sucks but he doesn't really need to play much so not a big deal. He only has 21 PA total before today, kind of a waste of a roster spot, but we have a lot of everyday players so not much opportunity for the bench and they still need backups for INF and OF no matter what in case of injury.
  9. Well being off a year (atrophy) and having a new elbow i'd imagine he's not going to throw 180 IP (without increased injury risk). It depends what the Cubs are looking for. If they're looking for a solid arm for this year and potentially good or really good arm next year they could pull the trade. If they're looking for a TOR for this season for down the stretch/playoffs I don't think they'd assume Alcantara is going to return to form this year or be the ideal guy to make an extra month of starts in Oct. I obviously don't hate the trade, I do like Alcantara generally, I just don't know if it's the fit the FO would want. They're more in need of SP or this season than next year, where everyone in our rotation now should be back plus Steele (though extra arms never hurts). They're kinda in win-now mode with Tucker likely leaving and Jed's job on the line.
  10. Coming off TJS i'm not sure if he's the right guy in the right situation for the Cubs this year. I assume he'll be limited in innings, not exactly the ideal guy you want down the stretch and playoffs.
  11. Jed has spoken: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/06/jed-hoyer-cubs-planning-to-look-for-pitching-at-deadline.html
  12. Is there a better corner OF than Happ at getting the ball back into 2b on a potential double? He's great at it.
  13. You look at Burnes, Steele, and the LA arms and there's a good reason Jed put most of our resources into the offense. 1 star SP going down and you've got 30+ million AAV sitting on the 60-day DL.
  14. Yeah we've seen very good teams and very good pitchers on the road. It's not a big deal. We're not being blown out or anything.
  15. Over the last month Justin Turner is hitting .270/.349/.405. Keller, Thielbar, Pressly, Pomeranz, and Flexen haven't given up an ER and Palencia is almost perfect. Everyone else in the pen has a 2.25 ERA or under also. 5th best overall team ERA over last 30 days (some of that Wrigley-aided, and schedule-aided).
  16. These umps were so good yesterday and so bad today.
  17. Tough time to have your worst day at work of the year. Brown working in that change up more, nice to see
  18. What I will say is that you definitely cannot stream this game illegally online. Don't do a google search for free online sports streaming.
  19. If they're going to implement the challenge system then just put in an automatic strike zone and let the umps call it. Why slow the action down and also do it half-arse? Take the ball-strike indicator (solid white ball icon) off the broadcasts so we can at least wait for the call from the umps.
  20. Over the last month Pressly's numbers:
  21. Even throwing 130-140 IP playoffs is going to increase his injury risk. Hopefully Imanaga gets healthy then they can send Horton down. I'd really limit his pitch counts down there so he can contribute in MLB when needed including playoffs. He could also pitch out of the pen for us to limit pitches/innings.
