  1. Terrible game for Boyd to sh*t the bed. That Misi guy is a beast. Brewers just keep finding and developing good arms. Cubs need to do better on that.
  2. Sounds like so many of us grew up idolizing Ryno. I had his poster on my wall. L I remember the shock of his sudden retirement, and the excitement when he announced his comeback. RIP.
  3. Was thinking of something like this yesterday. Good for Jed. And good to do it before he feels desperate to trade prospects at the deadline just to save his job. I'm fairly happy with his performance. We can complain about the results on the field but if you look at all the moves he's made and not made (FAs he's avoided) he's done quite well IMO. And had he resigned Rizzo/Bryant/Baez this franchise would be toast. I don't think he's signed any bad contract 3 years or longer, in fact he's knocked most of them out of the park.
  4. Just looking at 2025, the Tucker trade has looked like a wash. WAR-wise it seems we've lost that trade, even when you factor Paredes getting a big bump playing at Minute Maid (or whatever it's called now). Bellinger's HR haven't seen a bump at Yankee Stadium vs Wrigley according to Savant. But when you factor the money we saved on Bellinger/Paredes vs Tucker/Shaw we were able to use to nab other players then the trade is more of a wash, just looking at 2025. However, when you factor Paredes is controlled for another 2 seasons and Cam Smith for another 5-6 and can seemingly play a solid corner OF i'd say we probably lost that trade. Bellinger is playing like he did in 2023 for us, plus could spell PCA in CF when he needs a day off, and hits LHP well so could platoon with Busch at 1B. Oops.
  5. I would interpret this as "nobody is untouchable", rather than "they're willing to dump the farm to upgrade". But honestly, nobody in the minors right now is particularly exciting enough to worry much about keeping if they can acquire some good players, especially controllable SP. We have lots of "good" prospects but that's it. Only one I might prefer to keep is Ballesteros if they believe he'll be able to play an adequate catcher, since it's so difficult to acquire a good catcher from outside the org.
  6. Does Berti end up with more ABs or innings pitched post-ASB by the end of the year?
  7. They're gonna keep playing him and hoping he breaks out of it
  8. I'm really tired of this cheap org wasting money on old post-prime players like Turner, Pressly, Berti, Hendricks, Mancini etc that predictably horsefeathers the bed on the Cubs' watch. Why to do they continue to waste millions on old players? Spend a little bit of money and get some real talent FFS.
  9. Brujan should never play unless as a pinch runner or a mid-game injury filler.
  10. I dunno if Jed is going to make a trade based on 1 game. Hoyer says trade prices drop dramatically in the last few days before deadline so things will probably go down to the wire.
  11. Yeah could be. If they acquire 2 SP, even one, I could see them sticking Horton down in AAA to give him a rest like Brown and save him for Sept/Oct. Hoyer doesn't spend much on relievers. If we get any reliever it will probably be someone average at best. Anyone better than that would be because the market fell out of some guy and they score a deal they couldn't pass up.
  12. Well Saurez (also on Cleveland) is definitely gone at some point.
  13. The Cubs typically acquire players who provide the best value for the cost and i assume they'll do that here. They did it with Stroman, Imanaga, Rea, Boyd, and did the same with previous trades A year or 2 of extra control will be baked into the cost of the player and the Cubs will calculate that. The Cubs don't have much control over what other teams will demand for an SP. I don't really care who they acquire as SP as long as they're at least solid and come at good cost.
  14. I don't think we can conclude much from 1 start. His FB velo is still excellent, but you don't get whiffs and K's from FB or FB velo His FB is getting mashed. His control has been good recently, he still generates lots of groundballs. He's not getting whiffs or chase and thus K's this season, even over the last month or 2. His secondaries aren't back to where they were for whatever reason. Cade Horton is getting whiffs and chase but not K's, but Alcantara isn't getting any of the 3. He has upside but every FO in the league knows that, so I think you're going to pay for that upside. Right now I think he's an average to maybe slightly above-average SP with upside for more.
  15. We're still a good team but not quite as good as we've played in the first half given the pen luck and luck avoiding with position player injuries.
  16. Given the pen has greatly overachieved and is likely to regress and may already be happening, I think we have a below-average pitching staff. Factor in our very good defense who are obviously helping our pitchers and it becomes very apparent. Rea, Assad, Taillon. These are below average to average at best. We need to do better. This isn't a team built to win a WS, it's built to have a good shot to get into the playoffs and hope for the best. That's all ownership cares about and we have to live with that. This is a business and their goal is to make money, not to win.
  17. I love Boog's red framed glasses. It makes him look like a woman and I'm feeling it
  18. The fact we're in 2nd place is mind-boggling. I don't like the Brewers but I can tip my cap to that org. Incredible job they do season after season. They lost their POBO, their manager, their ace and their closer etc and just keep going. Great FO transactions, great development, extremely value focused.
  19. If that dumb beyotch Ricketts opened his pockets at all last winter maybe we'd have a better SP than Colin Rea and not have to trade prospects for one. Cubs currently 14th in the MLB in lux tax payroll at 215m! If we're 3rd in revenue we should have a tax payroll around 300m. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/tax
