  1. I don't see much of a need to trade for a SP right now, unless it's a clear upgrade. They can wait and see and pull the trigger based on injuries. Imanaga doesn't seem that far from a return. Assad has also been playing catch and Wicks has been pitching better in Iowa. If it's an upgrade they might as well do it now and get their money's worth. Losing Steele will hurt in the playoffs. A late-inning reliever and a bench player might also be on the deadline shopping list.
  2. If they extended PCA to what age would we want him? Only hesitancy is that a lot of his value is tied up in his speed, which doesn't usually age well. A guy like Tucker might age better.
  3. PCA with his only 2 career multi-walk games in the last the week.
  4. They could just side feet first maybe? They had Seiya going that when he hurt his hand in April
  5. Maybe Tucker just needs a sliding oven mitt but for his face.
  6. Hopefully we get Assad and/or Shota back before the ASB and we may not even need SP help at the deadline. Would be nice to see Wicks pitching better too. Edit: i see Wicks had a 3.00 ERA in May over 4 starts
  7. Yeah there's wearables guys can use when they work on the side to track usage there. Not sure how many use them though.
  8. Pitching injuries spiked dramatically league-wide in 2021 because of the short season in 2020, even after teams limited pitch counts in 2021. It even carried over to 2022 and a bit in 2023. They need to be careful here, Horton only threw 34 IP last year. You're right, at this pace there's just no way he's pitching in the post-season. But he could also get hurt at any time and miss a couple of months so it may not be an issue.
  9. FIP/xFIP aren't perfect either. He's likely had some bad BABIP luck but he's also been hit really hard this year and last according to Savant (EV and hardhit%). I still like Brown though. I like the opener idea, got to miss some lefty bats and miss the top of the order in the 1st inning. He's been really bad in the 1st inning so maybe this helps that a bit plus lets him go longer without 3rd time through vs the heart of the order.
  10. Great catch by PCA. Also congrats to PCA for his first career multi-walk game.
  11. PCA has looked terrible vs breaking balls from LHP. And LHP in general.
  12. I get your point, on first glace one could say the Cubs should have scored more runs vs Rockies.; But wasn't the wind blowing in for at least a couple of those games vs Rockies? And maybe Abbott is just pitching really well. Too early to really say the offense is scuffling.
  13. Very true. We shouldn't assume but also these are the series they need to sweep. Go Cubs!
  14. Did a lobotimized preschooler redesign the Cubs.com main page?
  15. Robertson needs to ramp up, he's old, he's rusty and may not even want to play like 1908 said. I think that ship has sailed.
  16. Yeah they don't seem to like skipping off days. I think they'll keep throwing Brown out there for now, not many options really. Looking at his stats the K's, walks, and HR/9 are fine. His FIP/xFIP are good. In fact his stats really aren't much different than last year. He has a .393 BABIP and given up a ton of hits so maybe some of it is bad luck. The LOB% is pretty low too. They've been hitting his FB hard both this year and last. Hopefully its a location thing or they're just sitting on it due to the 2-pitch mix.
  17. JD is 64. I can understand him not wanting to work 162 games a year or go on every road trip, especially the far ones on the West Coast. I'm ok with that. I think he's still pretty good at his job. I like the topics Boog talks about. He tries to stay informed on stats etc., even if he can definitely be a know-it-all sometimes. Boog and JD (and Taylor) play off each other well. Cohen is more like a salesman. He's insincere and tries too hard, and more of a homer. I'm sure he's a good dude but he's just not good enough for MLB games. He just can't get comfortable in the booth. He might even be the worst baseball play-by-play guy i've ever heard.
  18. It should help PCA that he's a LHB and won't be chasing so many tough breaking calls low and away. I do notice that PCA seems to lay off more balls that are up or outside. He chases a lot of pitches low or inside since those are the pitches he likes to hit (can't argue with the results). Of course we've also seen him swing at a couple of sliders that end up hitting him on the leg LOL.
  19. Maybe that plus maybe some natural age- related velo drop. Not throwing much last year might have an effect also. Bottom line is he just didn't look good.
  20. Can't win em all. At least they made it a close game, better than being blown out lol. Rea also didn't look good at times, lost command etc, everyone has an off game here and there, he was bound to regress somewhat eventually. Shaw still looks pretty stiff out there at 3b at times. Hopefully he'll look at least a bit better once he gets more reps in the MLB and can start to relax instead of worrying about proving himself at 3b. When he hit that last double he showed off his speed, he's pretty fast.
