  1. Maybe he needs a day off when Happ gets back. Maybe a few of these guys do
  2. What's a "save"? Who are these "closers" you speak of? Looks like Chapman has gained a tick back on his velo too.
  3. Tucker needed to catch that. Hard to blame Palencia, he's been lights out and everyone is going to give up some runs once in a while. The expectation can't be perfection. Main thing is Brown can't give up 6 ER in less than 5 IP. The pen gave up 2 ER in 4 IP, which is better than what Brown did. With this mediocre pen Counsell probably has a slow hook trying to get some length out of his SP. But maybe when Brown started getting knocked around late it's a spot where someone like Flexen needs to come in and throw a couple of innings. But then again I have no idea who's available.
  4. Shaw, Ballesteros, PCA, Amaya, and Busch in the starting lineup. Ben Brown is today's SP. Hodge is probably the closer. The future is here.
  5. At this point a 1 WAR contribution would be better than what anyone else can do, so I'd take it
  6. There's just no advantage for the Orioles to bow out in May rather than waiting another month or 2.
  7. Much to early for the Orioles to consider themselves sellers.
  8. PCA had 2.7 fWAR last season. He's already surpassed that this season and its mid-May (and that was before today's game). On pace for 9.5 WAR. There's basically nothing he can't do on a diamond besides take a walk.
  9. Horton had some good fastball command today. And no walks again. Was bouncing the slider in the dirt a lot, hopefully he gets more chase by locating it better out of the zone. Not going to get those swings like in the minors. Still just the 2nd MLB game and still early in the year for a guy who hasn't thrown much in the minors. Lots of opportunity for improvement and tweaking.
  10. Maybe he could be effective as a reliever. Understandable if he starts for Iowa though.
  11. Yeah, nice to see him hitting the ball hard and driving some out.
  12. It was weird watching the Mets series and seeing them trot out relievers that actually looked like athletes. Hodge counts though.
  13. SS/2B defense has been a bit rough/sloppy the last 2-3 weeks.
  14. Dansby's been mashing since they first moved him to the 8th spot. wRC+ up to 117 for the season.
  15. Ballestaros has played 1 game at 1b this year and 8 last year. And based on his weight i imagine he's not going to be a cat out there like Busch. Not sure they try it. Might not hurt to try though if Berti keeps hitting poorly like as of late. We know Busch can handle catching balls at a corner position but we don't know how he throws.
  16. Thing is those guys got more playing time. He's been horrible but we're also still in small sample territory. IMO if the Cubs are going to really give Turner a shot now is the time with Happ out where he can play every day. Problem is what kind of leash do you give him? At what point do we know he's just cooked rather than off to a bad start?
  17. Cards have won 9 in a row and are just 1 game back and have had better pitching than us so far What's going on in St Louis?
  18. An extra inning here and there isn't a big deal but if this is something Counsell will be doing regularly and with most or all of our SP i can see it being a concern. Hopefully it's just a thing they do in May until the pen is more settled.
  19. Wonder how Kelly's fingers are on the throwing hand (power-hitting hand) after getting hit there a few games ago (Friday was it?). They looked swollen later that game. Ball-on-bone is the worst. And what do you do with Turner at this point? If he sucks you can't play him, and he won't get any better rotting on the bench. He was supposed to be the guy to DH if there was an injury to any of Happ/Seiya/Turner. Does he want to transition to assistant hitting coach? LOL.
