The fact we're in 2nd place is mind-boggling. I don't like the Brewers but I can tip my cap to that org. Incredible job they do season after season. They lost their POBO, their manager, their ace and their closer etc and just keep going. Great FO transactions, great development, extremely value focused.

If that dumb beyotch Ricketts opened his pockets at all last winter maybe we'd have a better SP than Colin Rea and not have to trade prospects for one. Cubs currently 14th in the MLB in lux tax payroll at 215m! If we're 3rd in revenue we should have a tax payroll around 300m. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/tax

They seem to do that with outsiders they acquire, yet all the SP they develop throw batting practice fastballs. Maybe it's a coincidence, who knows. I'm just venting and ranting like a madman.

And Boyd could hit the wall at any time. I'm glad the Cubs are at least very aware of the issues for Boyd/Horton/Brown and giving these guys extra rest.

Wicks' fastball sucks too. Is there a SP the Cubs developed that doesn't have a terrible fastball? I'm 100% convinced Steele's fastball is a complete accident because ain't no way the Cubs taught him that.

PCA not starting today. Seiya in CF and Turner at DH. Wonder if he's banged up. Odd time to give him a day off right after the ASB. But it's a LHP, however a reverse-splits guy.

Agree. Individual elite hitters or bad hitters etc aren't relevant at all. What matters is the combined total output of all hitters on your team. How you get there doesn't matter.

Nice thing is we'll probably go on a tear too before the end of the season. The fact that they swept the Dodgers twice is nuts. Gotta be some luck there with all the close games. The Brewers are such an annoyingly pesky team.

Hoyer came to the Marquee booth to talk about deadline stuff. He started with a tribute to Ryno. He didn't say anything about his illness, but based on Ryno's last update and how Jed was tipping his cap to Ryno it doesn't sound positive. Best of luck to Ryne and his family.

If Shaw isn't hitting by the deadline I think you could see a trade for a 3B if it comes at a reasonable cost. We're getting nothing out of the position and it's hurting the team. We're dead last in the MLB in WAR out of 3B at -0.5 WAR. Obviously SP is the priority for depth and the playoffs but it would make an impact to get a quality 3B too if Shaw is still sucking. I'm not really worried about the deadline, Jed has done a fairly good job at other deadlines and hasn't overpaid. He definitely puts a low value on relievers though, but thankfully our pen is in better shape than other years. -

Yeah. It's also bad negotiation tactics to tell the world how desperate you are to acquire a SP etc
