  1. He didn’t pull Boyd because of his production. Boyd got hurt on that ball hit back to him.
  2. I thought he was done after 5. I would have said that wasn’t.a bad outcome to be one down turning the game to the one. Gilbert versus Rea is a huge advantage to Seattle. Down 1 would have been awesome.
  3. This is absolutely a results based comment. Did you say this when Shaw ran and stole second? Nope! With Garver catching the Cubs should have run. It is hard to score on Gilbert. You have to do whatever you need to do to score. He just got a perfect pitch to throw and made a good throw.
  4. Different situation though. They also didn’t lose a star. I agree they did not add. As you said they traded for Quintana during the year. But they didn’t let any big time player go. Losing Tucker would be losing a big time player.
  5. What bunch of prospects? If they move either Happ or Suzuki and one prospect comes up (not a bunch) they can have Tucker and be under the LT. They actually don’t even have to do that, but knowing Ricketts they will have to lower cost somewhere.
  6. Absolutely. That is the only thing that saves Rea.
  7. I don’t see it that way at all. If they win a World Series how does he then let Tucker go? Why not show his fanbase they mean business and want to win again? Regardless of winning or falling short, IMO the cubs will be very aggressive about signing Tucker. I don’t think how this year ends will factor into the equation.
  8. I agree with you he will suck today. I don’t agree he is overdue. I think he has pretty much sucked the last 4 of 5 starts. One he got very lucky. He shocked the last several because for the most part….. HE SUCKS!!!!
  9. 12 earned runs the prior 2 before those. Guess that is what I am remembering. However in the one against the Nationals, I believe that was the luckiest game of the year by a Cubs pitcher. I believe they smoked the ball the entire game and Rea got lucky. And in the other one of the last 3 he wasn’t very good.
  10. Why does it seem people are surprised when Boog isn’t in the booth on Sunday? Hasn’t he done Sunday night baseball for years? How often did he do Sunday cubs games before this year?
  11. Long overdue? Hasn’t he sucked his last 3?
  12. Changes the math? What are you referring to? Amount of wins with or without Tucker, playoff chance with or without, or team salary with or without Tucker? I think him here changes the first two but doesn’t have to change the payroll. Just allocate more to one guy.
  13. Tbf, his throwing error really should have been caught by Busch. Wasn’t a great throw but Busch catches in 95 out of 100 tries.
  14. I know. More wishful thinking than anything else. I don’t think there are going to be a lot of sellers. Which might up the cost of acquiring a guy. Just not much out there. Hard to face your fans when you sell 3 games out of a WC spot. And I think that will be the case with a lot of teams.
  15. I would agree with this. I would guess Cassie and a pitching prospect not named Wiggins. Maybe the Cubs have to even throw in a 3rd lower level piece. Alcantara, if healthy and fully back, would be a great add this year and for a few years after as well. If the Cubs are serious about bringing Tucker back they can afford to move Cassie. If/when either Suzuki or Happ leaves Ballasteros, Alcantara or Long can fill in at DH/OF.
  16. Love to get Joe Ryan. But with 3 years of control he isn’t going to be cheap. He would be a great addition, however.
  17. Yep, this is going to be a tough one. I personally do not like the Cubs chances in this one. But with the wind blowing out anything can happen.
  18. If the bottom line is team budget and not about what they pay one man, they can sign Tucker and still stay within the imaginary salary ceiling they want to be at.
  19. So it sounds to me like you would love to have him but don’t want a 10 year or more deal for him. In the past with mega FA that has been a stance you have taken. Would you call 10/$370 or even 12/410 stupid money? Would you be saying the Cubs shouldn’t have signed him if they do for this amount? Or would you rather they did something like 8/$312? Or by stupid money do you think someone will come up with $450-$550 and blow him up entirely? I think at those numbers there will be a lot of deferred money. And up until now the Cubs have not really shown a willingness to do that sort of deal. But as I have said before, Tucker is a different situation than any other FA people have wanted the Cubs to sign. He is here already.
  20. Honestly to me what has been happening the past 17 games is an example of why I feel the Cubs are a very good team. If we are being honest they are not playing well. I would say they are slumping. Yet, even slumping they are 9-8 over that span. Years past they would be 6-11 over these 17 games because they are playing poorly. Good team find a way to win even when they aren’t playing great. This game, as an example, was a very ugly game where the defense sucked. And they found a way to win. The Pirates series they couldn’t hit, but they found a way to win. He’ll, you can go back to the Colorado series where they swept and scored maybe 8 runs. Again, years past they lose more of those games.
  21. Absolutely. You can definitely argue at most only 2 should have been earned. And even the ball off the centerfield wall wall wasn’t played well by PCA. I think he could have caught it. Maybe wind blowing out is PVC’s kryptonite.
  22. What might be forgotten about today’s game is Horton looked very good. He definitely didn’t deserve the runs he gave up. I am very encouraged by what I have seen from him.
  23. My admittedly overly optimistic scenerio would be at the ASB the Cubs have a press conference where they announce they extended Hoyer, PCA and Tucker. What a way to start the last 60-70 games of the season.
