  1. BABIP gods really hurting him this one. They have 2 hard hit balls. He has not been great lately. But this game is very much not a true reflection of how he has pitched.
  2. Maybe, but typical the negative responses just move the goal posts until the team finally loses. And, besides that, even if they played San Diego and got eliminated that doesn’t validate the opinion that they CAN’T beat SD. It just means in that particular series they didn’t. Doesn’t mean they are not good. Playoffs are a crapshoot. Especially this year when there is no dominate team.
  3. Exactly. Can’t help what the Brewers are doing. Can only beat them when we play them. And we did fine against them. Cubs can beat any team in baseball. But the reality is, they can also lose to them. Doesn’t mean they didn’t have a chance. They obviously do.

I think they would, if they signed Santana. I don’t necessarily like signing Santana, but if they did I can’t imagine they wouldn’t do it with the thought he can help in the playoffs. And I don’t see they not having Turner on the roster come playoffs after touring his team leadership all year.
  5. PCA definitely needs a reset and to sit a game or 2. But I think he will play in Colorado. I really don’t want to see Castro in center at this park. Get home and give PCA some time off.
  6. Not even going to argue the comment here. Just going to point out this is the typical negative response that will, most likely, eventually be correct so the poster could come back with “I told you so”. They weren’t good enough. Never mind the record. Never mind stats that suggest the Cubs are near the top in all offensive and pitching categories, the eye test says they are not good. So what if they are 20 games over .500, they struggle to beat teams. I mean the Rockies suck and they have struggled every game they played them. Doesn’t matter they are 5-0 against them. 🤷 Again, not arguing with Papa Cub. It is his opinion and fine that this is what he sees. But I am pretty sure if he or any other poster watched almost every game if all the other teams he suggested we couldn’t beat there would be a similar post about that team not being able to beat any if the good teams at some point during the season. And the truth is, most likely that post would be correct too.
  7. That is fair. He still is a very solid SS. But he hasn’t been as good defensively this year as previous.
  8. Disappointed with his defense? I mean maybe not what he is in his best seasons, but I really think people need to watch games other than the Cubs. They will see a lot of plays not made that we, as cubs fans, take for granted.
  9. The people complaining about Brown sucking are most likely the same ones who complained about Jason Adam and Jerome Estrada. And they will be the same ones who complain when Brown is a great bullpen arm somewhere else. I am sure they complained about Palencia last year, too. Most fans don’t have the patience to watch a guy struggle. But then they will be the first to criticize the Cubs if they let that guy go and he turns up good elsewhere.
  10. He will be 33 before the start of the next season and most likely is strictly a DH. He will get a lot less than Tucker. Maybe not annual, but he isn’t getting that long a contract. Maybe 5/$175M.
  11. Turnbull doesn’t matter now or in the future. Birdsell doesn’t matter now. Taillon said he probably could have started this game, just giving himself a little more rest to make sure he doesn’t hurt himself further. I do worry about Palencia. Hopefully they can get Horton and Boyd some rest. They are pretty much secure in getting either 4th or 5th team in. So they can mix and match some pitchers now to try having everyone healthy for the playoffs.
  12. Pretty sure it will be Cubs versus Padres. Hope it is at Wrigley, but that’s very much in question. I will say, IMO, whoever wins that series will beat the Brewers.
  13. If Fedde does well it is luck. It isn’t the Brewers knowing something about him. I agree they have a great organization, but Fedde sucks. So does Vaughn. Those guys playing well and for that matter, Collins too, is 100% horseshoe up their ass luck.
  14. Factoring in the huge centerfield in SF, I think you have to play PCA. If the game was in Wrigley I might think otherwise.
  15. Fedde pitched 2 shutout innjngs in a 1-0 game. Brewers up. He was cut by two teams and was available to 29 other teams before the Brewers could sign him. He sucks and was signed today. And somehow he has pitched 2 without any incident. Is he going to be the pitching version of Andrew Vaughn?
  16. I agree. But who knows that best? Cubs coaches or the fans who post here?
  17. But we really don’t know if the Tucker break was something the staff saw in his swing and wanted him to work something out a few days or a mental reboot. Maybe there isn’t anything wrong with Seiya’s swing. Jason already pointed out it is more as luck than anything else. As I said, if they played. Assume one game, maybe against Webb, I wouldn’t mind. But I don’t think that move increases the Cubs chance to win. It just gives Seiya a day off. While I don’t agree with everything Counsell does, I do trust him to make the right decision more often than I or anyone in our discussions would make.
  18. I can see starting Cassie over Suzuki maybe the next time the Cubs face a righty. But Cassie should not be starting over Suzuki with the exception of giving Suzuki a day to reset. This idea that Cassie gives the Cubs a better chance of winning is not something I agree with. Suzuki has been a very good hitter since he got to the Cubs. He will work his way out of this funk. As I said, 1 day, fine. But Vassie is not his replacement. I am just so amazed at how many people think they know more than the Cubs FO and manager. Everything they do there is someone suggested he knows better. I don’t agree with everything Counsell or the FO does, but I do know they have more data than I do when they make the decision they make.
  19. Yes, I saw this too. But I believe the initial comment was the Cubs would lose the tiebreaker to the Padres, who had a better record against their division then the Cubs did. And up until now they don’t. But I agree that 7 against the Rockies sure helps them. Or course it might help them beat out the Dodgers, who Cubs win the tiebreaker against.
  20. They can sweep. But biggest reason they won’t is because they are playing baseball. Even the bad teams win 40% of the time while the good ones win 60% of the time. Sweeping in unusual regardless of who is playing. They definitely need to win the series and a sweep would be awesome. But expecting it is a little unrealistic.
  21. Last I looked the Cubs were something like 24-17 against the central and the Padres were 21-17 against the West. Padres did take 2 of 3 from the Dodgers but that would but then at 23-18. I could be wrong. I did a Quick Look the other day. But I don’t think it is a certainty the Padres win the tiebreaker Edit: just looked. Both 24-18.
  22. I think if they sign Tucker someone who makes some money will go. I know Happ and Suzuki have NTC, so might be tough. But beteeen them and maybe Taillon someone will go. Then I think they will trade for a controlled pitcher using some of the blocked minor league talent. That pitcher might still be arbitration eligible and not cost that much. I don’t think it is a reach to think they can sign Tucker and still make a trade for at least a MOR arm. Low end for that, to me would be Keller. (Personally I think it will be Cabrera) He would basically replace Taillon. I think the trade for a pitcher is way more likely than signing one. It is also the easier part of the plan to sign Tucker and trade for a pitcher.
  23. Cubs are in the running for the second best record in baseball. They can only control what the Brewers do when they play the Brewers. And they won that season series. So getting upset or criticizing the Cubs because the Brewers are 31 games over .500 is not reasonable. But I agree with you, the reaction is normal. It is what all fans do. I never said it was wrong. I said it was easy to be negative. And even easier to be correct if you are negative.
