    Agreed. He is a fine manager. I never feel the guy in the other side of the diamond is better than him and/or it is just a matter of time before he screws up. I don’t always agree with everything he does, but that would be the case with whoever the manager is. And it doesn’t mean he was wrong if I disagreed with him.

    Why shouldn’t the Cubs have celebrated? They absolutely accomplished something. Something they hadn’t done since 2018. They made the playoffs and got to celebrate it. Baseball is hard. Teams don’t get to the playoffs every year. They should celebrate.

    I’m all for talking about baseball. But that wasn’t what was being discussed. So I gave my opinion.

    First of all, typically best friends are a result of people with common interest and/or views. I don’t think someone very liberal would be good friends with someone who is a homophobic, racist, as an example. But in some cases people do have different views. Speaking only for me, if that “best friend” was someone vocal about his/her views, they wouldn’t be my friend long. I know I have friends that think differently than I do. But as long as we are all respectful of the others believes we are good. As for you comment regarding me not buying a Shaw jersey, why is that something you seem to think is wrong? Why would I. I don’t respect the man. I agree there are definitely others who share his views. And if I knew who they were or if they were as vocal about them as Shaw is, I would buy their jersey either. It is my right to buy a jersey of whoever I want. I didn’t say I would boo him. I didn’t even say I won’t cheer for him and root for him to do something that helps the Cubs win. As someone else pointed out, I am a Cubs fan. I root for the team, city and whoever is wearing that jersey. Doesn’t mean I have to like that person or his beliefs. And if I don’t like that persons views or beliefs, why would I wear a nersey with that person’s name.

    Safe to say I won’t be wearing a Shaw jersey EVER! But I do have to seperate his personal life from his life as a ballplayer on the team. And being a Cubs fan, as long as he is on the team I want him to do well. I will say it isn’t easy to root for him, however.

    I would actually add Jamo as a definite based on how he has been pitching. He might even get game 3, as Chibear suggested a few or so back. I do think if that happened Boyd would make the roster.

    I was listening to Bruce Levine on the score the other day and he suggested maybe only an 11 man staff for round 1. Whether it is 11 or 12, I am pretty sure it won’t be 13. That said, I count 7 definites: Imanaga, Boyd, Horton, Theilbar, Kittredge, Keller, Pomeranz. I am not sure Taillon is going to be on the roster. (But he could be the 8th) If you need long relief would you rather have a starting pitcher who isn’t used to that scenerio coming in or someone like Assad, Rea, Soroka or Civale? Then you also have Palencia and Rogers to consider. What 4, or 5 others make the staff?

    I agree that could be the issue. Which is why I am happy they will probably only have to face the Dodgers or a Phillies and not both. And then, the randomness of Wrigley winds could help the Cubs staff. They are obviously at an advantage for their pitchers if the wind is blowing in. Then defense and lack of walking batters helps the Cubs staff.

    Sure, but what difference does it make if they did win 10 in a row and there record was still 88-67? Doesn’t matter how you get your record. You are your record. If they did have that sort of strength at some point of the season and still been 88-67 there would be people complaining that aside from the 10 game stretch they are barely over .500. Aside from the Guardians 10 game stretch they are 74-71. Again, sure it would be nice, but I am fine with 88 wins regardless how they got them.

    To me, fangraphs is ridiculous in that percentage. Obviously the 4 teams who get a bye in rd one should be the 4 favorites. But I see no reason the Cubs shouldn’t be in that next tier pretty equally with the Dodgers, whoever has the 3rd best record of division winners in the AL and the 1st WC team in the AL. All have home field in rd 1. The next tier would be the road teams in rd 1. No team is great. IMO Phillies are the Cubs toughest challenge. But that doesn’t mean they are the best team either. I just don’t like the match ups for the Cubs in that potential series.

    I really think Tucker is lining up into a perfect guy to to a Correa/Bellinger deal with. 3 year deal with an opt out after 1. Maybe even $35M after 1 with a $5M buyout or the next two at $75M total. This works perfect for the Cubs if they don’t want to worry about contracts in ‘27. And gives Tucker a year to prove himself for a large mega year deal. This is the sort of thing the Cubs would actually do.

    I cannot disagree with anything you said. I have similar concerns. My only point is, so does every fan of all the teams. As for the back of the baseball card reference, I also think this years results have to be factored in too. And based on those things I would put the Cubs talent up against any of the teams playing in the first round. It really is going to come down to what team overcomes the concerns of their fan base. And any team can do it.

    But, AGAIN, no playoff team is ending the season strong. Even right now, Cubs have lost 3 in a row. But their record the last 10 is 6-4. Padres are 5-5 over the last 10. Padres lost on Friday to a team that will probably lose 100 games this year. They finish with the Brewers and Dbacks. No playoff team, with the exception of the Phillies has played any better over the last 50 games than the Cubs. None better then last 10. Pick an end point. No one is lighting it up. Even the teams chasing the Mets aren’t exactly charging. I get it, they need guys they count on too hit and pitch well. And right now we worry about that. But I am sure all the other teams say the same thing. Hiw well can Machado, Merrill, and Tatis be hitting and Cease, King and Pivetta be pitching if the Padres aren’t winning consistently? My guess is they are struggling too. Or someone is because they aren’t playing well. I agree with you, it would be awful if they lost home field. But I don’t think they will. Since you used ASB as a point of reference below are the rices if the teams fighting for the WC since the ASB: Cubs 31-28, Mets 25-33, Dodgers 30-28, Padres 32-27, Reds 29-29, Dbacks 31-27. Someone has to win in rd 1.

    Deep breathe papacub. If you watched any other team I am sure at some point you would say they are also very inconsistent. If this season has proved anything it is the Cubs have been very consistent through the entire year. Maybe not a particular part of their team, but in end results they have played very consistent baseball as far as wins and loses goes. A few decent runs and then .500 ball the rest of the time. They will be fine. What is happening right now has no bearing on what happens the end of September into October. Momentum is a good start by a pitcher. They are a virtual lock to play the Padres. Love it to be at home, which they still have a great chance of making that happen. Just relax and let the season finish. Whatever they do in the playoffs will not be a result of what happens from now until the end of the season. (Unless they do blow a 4 game lead with 7 to play-which I do not expect them to do) And even if they did it is still SD but on the road.

    I bet Guardians fans would love for their team to have the record the Cubs have and not have to worry about a 10 game winning streak to possibly make the playoffs.

    Not sure where to ask this and didn’t want to start a new thread. But can someone explain to me how Busch can have a lower BA, OBP, Slugging % and OPS than Harper and yet his OPS+ is higher? His WAR is also higher, but I thought maybe def was could explain that.

    His critics complain he isn’t worth his contract. But whether it is because he is a great defender and average hitter, that gets him his value, he does play to what he is being paid. If you believe in WAR as an indicator of how good a player is, it shouldn’t matter if he does it hitting, base running or fielding. A ++ defender with an average bat is more valuable than a negative defender with a better than average bat. But his critics only want to talk offense.

    If they go with 5 bench players there is room for Santana and Ballesteros, if they don’t roster Hamilton. Bench if a back up catcher, Castro, Turner, Santana and Ballesteros. I actually think Santana is a sure thing for the roster and either Ballesteros or Hamilton will be the 5rh bench guy, if they go with only 12 pitchers(which I think they shouldn’t take more)

    Highly doubt Tucker is done. He won’t play right field, but he can DH.

    If things go as I hope, Cubs won’t have to face either the Phillies or the Dodgers. But most likely they will have to beat one of them.
