  1. It appears so. Which is why he is in the game now. Counsell doesn’t ever chase wins using his high end guys.
  2. His total season body of work is bad. I agree with that. But the last 2 starts before this one he has thrown 13 innings and given up 6 hit. 2 quality starts. And 3 of his last 4 have been good (now 4 of 5). It is baseball. horsefeathers happens.
  3. Does anyone here know the availability of Counsell’s pen? I would guess that answer is no. There is just so much hot takr bs here it is ridiculous. From Peanut saying “shocking” when the Cubs blow the lead to everyone on Brown, who, btw, didn’t give up the homer, this a maddening response. You would think this is a team under 500 not a team with the 3rd best record in baseball. Good teams lose games. Padre were swept at home by the Orioles. Dodgers lost their series. It happens.
  4. What? He gave up 2 runs in 6 innings in Colorado. I think you are thinking of Houston.
  5. I think once the Cubs are securely slotted at 1st WC team Horton will pitch even less. Maybe keep him in his schedule but only thrown 2 or 3 innings. They. Wed him for the playoffs.
  6. I agree. Yes, his voice wasn’t great. But he did a good job describing the game.
  7. By design the Cubs are keeping him at 75 or so pitches. He can easily go 7 if they gave him a 90-100 pitch limit. But they aren’t going to do it this year.
  8. Didn’t he win a game for them against the Brewers. 3 run homer and threw a guy out at the plate. I know he hasn’t hit, but that win was huge.
  9. I like long, but this would hardly be worst case for him. This is not his floor. His floor is never being a major league player . That is worst case.
  10. I agree with this. I think the playoffs set up nicely for the Cubs. First either Padres or Mets and then Brewers. I honestly think whoever wins the 3 game series will beat the Brewers. Then it is either Dodgers or Phillies. Both rough match ups. But I think everyone here would have signed up for NlCS and a possible WS appearance, had they been asked in March. That said, they can just as easily lose either round. I just like those match ups the best.
  11. For all the doomsday fans who think every team in the playoffs is obviously better than the cubs, Padres down 7-0 to the Orioles in SD. I think this might be an O’s sweep and the Padres will have lost 8 of their last 10. Any reason to think they are obviously better than the Cubs? 5 of those losses are to the Twins and O’s.
  12. He is still OPS+ of 115-117. Same as his career. The league has changed. He is still the same level above average as his career numbers say he is going into the year. If he putd up the numbers you are looking for he would be a guy with probably OPS+ of 125 or more. Well above his career norm. But actually I am not arguing with you in this. You are using one set of stats and I am using another. That is fine. I was just trying to explain to NYcubs that I was talking about actual numbers, not expected numbers.
  13. I would think something is bothering him. I am pretty sure CC isn’t playing this like a spring training game and only playing him 5 innings.
  14. Actually I am talking about actual numbers. Happ is having his typical year right now. He doesn’t need a strong finish (as Chibear suggested and I disagreed with) to get to his norms. He is there. I will leave the argument about actual stats and expected stats to those who argue it better. Jason and squally do a great job explaining it. If you choose not to agree with them, that is your right. But even using his actual outcomes this year, he is at his norm.
  15. I remember when there was first talk about the Cubs trading for Fowler some fans being against it because they said the Cubs already had a guy like him. Arismendy.
  16. 🤷 But it happens every year. Same with Swanson. And, IMO, if the Cubs did somehow sign Tucker long term, it would happen with him too.
  17. This isn’t actually true. Actually he is performing to his career numbers now. He doesn’t have to go off in September to make his typical season. He was down maybe 30 days ago, and I remember you asking if he has ever been down to an OPS+ of 101 (where he was 30 day ago) and ended in his typical 115-120. I believe he has before and actually he has already rebounded to that number now, with 1 month to go. He is the same guy he has been every year. A little streaky( and, yes, a little unlucky this year), but a solid player. He shouldn’t be the star of the team. But he is a good ballplayer, period.
  18. What dude said you said Happ sucked? I asked why lol. Unless you are referring to someone else, I don’t know where you got the idea that I accused you of thinking Happ sucked.
  19. Why is this “lol”? It is true. He is just pointing out facts. Just like Jason has done several times when people rip Happ. Ian is right around his career norm now, even with poor luck. He has not had a bad year, for him. Now, if you don’t like him even at his career norms, that is another story. I can understand that. I don’t agree with it, but I understand it. In reality he is an above average offensive player his entire career (15%-20% above average) and a gold glove left fielder for the last 3 years. He will not be easily replaced, as many suggest.
  20. Nice to come here and not see all the Happ hate. Once again, his numbers are stabilizing to what they usually are. Shocking to some, who apparently don’t follow the team yearly. But to those who do, not a great surprise.
  21. Agreed. And tbh, I think the no swing on Reamuto was about closer to a 50/50 call than an obvious swing. I get him being upset with the call. But I don’t find it as egregious as the Brewers announcers made it out to be. I think if it was the Cubs, Deshaies would have said 50/50.
  22. Your loss. Toronto was amazing.
  23. We doesn’t appear to be too good at bunting for a hit. I am not sure he would bunt at a high rate if getting on base any more than he does swinging away. He can definitely try more often. Might being corners in a little which could result in a ball going through the infield because guys are playing in. And maybe he even gets a good one down. But he definitely shouldn’t do it too often.
