    In your initial post you suggested Happ hasn’t done anything to give the Cubs a reason to sign him. Again, OPS+ of 145 with OPS of 828 while still being a great outfielder. If this was stats of a nameless person you would say he was having a good year. I am fine with not extending him. I might not either, unless he was cheaper and would take a 3 year deal. But to say he isn’t doing anything this year IS undervaluing him. If they don’t sign him they will be worse in left field next year, period.

    So 145 OPS+ and over 800 OPS is playing poorly. Got it. Also, he turns 32 in August. So most of next year he is 32. No, I wouldn’t give him 5 years. Maybe not sign him at all if they put money elsewhere. But you are shitting on him based on his last 55 AB.

    What are you talking about? His numbers are his numbers. No matter how he got them. And they are very good and he is a GG left fielder.

    I didn’t say that. If fact, I said if they didn’t extend him I would understand. My issue is your suggesting he hasn’t done much to give the Cubs a reason to sign him. He has been very good for many years. You are now making a different argument then what you originally said and what I took issue with. Once again, you continue to undervalue Happ.

    He was at 90. And with a depleted pen he has to get innings out of the rotation. Who did you want him to bring in?

    Happ has been a top 3 left fielder in baseball the past 4 years or better. Also always around OPS+ of around 120. Probably a top 30 outfielder overall. But other than that he has t done a thing. So you guys are right. While I am fine if they don’t sign him, let’s not act like he isn’t good or doesn’t deserve to be signed again if he would take a 2 or 3 year deal. Once again, Cubs fanbase undervaluing Happ.

    Don’t forget Cooper and Kenny Williams. I actually agree with you. But I don’t live in Chicago any longer so I don’t have to listen to Sox fans, except my son in law (but he knows better). Sox organization definitely used to operate as the team with a chip on their shoulder. I actually remember going out and you would see Sox fans watching the Cubs game hoping the Cubs would lose instead of watching their team hoping they would win. I asked one of them if they would rather get swept by the Cubs but then sweep the Twins (who were 2 games up in them in the standings) or sweep the Cubs but get swept by the Twins. He wanted to sweep the Cubs. To me, he was the “typical” Sox fan.

    Right. But would you rather the Cubs sweep the Brewers or the white sox, if they went 3-3 in those 6 games. I know the brewers are the correct answer, but it would suck to lose 3 to the Sox.

    I agree. But tbh, it is irrational. In the next 8 games if someone told me the Cubs would go 4-4, I know the rational POV would be to hope the Cubs split with the Braves and swept the Brewers. But that would mean they got swept by the white sox. While I realize that would be the best outcome of a 4-4 stretch, that is also tough to live with knowing the Sox swept them. But that is absolutely what any fan should choose if that was their options. How many would?

    Your initial comment wasn’t bad, actually. You were just saying they need to start hitting. But you did double down after today’s game to suggest after 3 games there might be a problem. Some guys struggled before then but that is pretty normal. Not all players hit all the time. Before this last 3 games they won 10 in a row. How bad could they have possibly been doing?

    In his prime Brand was a 20/10 guy. I would take that with the 4th pick in the draft, whether it is Boozer or Wilson. They can, and have done a lot worse with the 4th pick (P. Williams)

    I wouldn’t go that far. It would be fine to split the next 6, but I would be short of thrilled.

    There is prospect fatigue but there is also ageing out of prospect status. Maybe at 24 and his second year at AAA he shouldn’t be striking out as much?🤷

    Aside from him being a local kid, I don’t see the attraction to him. Carrier OPS+ of 75. I guess he is a good outfielder, but he hasn’t proved he can hit.

    I have seen some updated top 100 prospects list and none of them have Alcantara. Why is that? Isn’t he leading the minors in homers? He is also a good defensive outfielder. Isn’t the only knock his K rate? Is he someone the Cubs would be better off using I. A trade. And if so, doesn’t he even have enough value to be the main piece(or only piece) in a deal for someone like Ray, or Gray or some other rental?

    Based on what, exactly? I have a pretty good idea what it is. As a poster pointed out, dog whistling.

    Ballesteros had a bad day. He stuck out against deGrom a few times. He isn’t the first person who can say that and won’t be the last. And he is struggling now, for sure. But why do you have to go to a persons make up when you have no fricken idea of that person? Why does slumping equate to Mo being cocky? Can’t you just say he has to adjust his swing a little? Maybe shorten it a bit? Maybe he is just slumping? Doesn’t mean he is cocky.

    I agree if Alcantara does that he will be considered as a corner outfielder. Ext year, if not traded. The hard part is him doing what you expect out of him.

    How did Wicks look. I see he went 4 scoreless but he walked 4. To me, that is the next possible solution to the staff. It is important for him to be decent.

    At the beginning of last year, when you were campaigning for Long, he didn’t have 1300 PA. And hadn’t played much in Iowa. That is why you were wrong then. Your wrong now because there isn’t a spot for him. Let him play in Iowa. Hope either someone really likes him so you can deal him, or he is ready to challenge for an outfield spot next year. Not all guys in the minors turn into stars. You tend to pencil minor leaguers into starting spots in the Cubs as if it is no big deal. You are doing it now with Alcantara. Suggesting he is a better option than Shaw for the Cubs next year while he is striking out over 35% of the time in Iowa. Yet you have him as the corner outfielder over Shaw who has put up solid numbers in the majors since the last half of last year. It is more likely both Long and Alcantara fail to become regulars than it is that either of rh does turn into a productive everyday player.

    I would definitely take Robbie Ray for the right price. If Webb come back healthy he is also someone I would be interested in at a higher price. Yes, Shaw would work for me here, for Webb. I don’t understand why Ray wouldn’t work. He would be as effective as any Cubs starter. Sure, an ace would be better. And someone like Peralta should be a target. But I wouldn’t be disappointed in Ray or even Sonny Gray.
