  1. Maybe, but I also think they are better this year than last. Added another solid starting pitcher, Steele should be back and I think Bregman and Mo will be as good as Shaw and Tucker. Plus they improved the bench. So assuming some regression I still see them as a 90 win team. And if some guys actually get better (Busch, PCA, Brown, Shaw and Amaya to name a few) they could win 93-94 games.
  2. I’m much closer to your way of thinking that any of those projections. IMO we saw him get better as the year went on. His K rate was going up. I expect him to be league average in K’s, if not better. Not sure I would have him as dominate next year, but I do expect very good. Not Skenes or Skubal level. Maybe more like vintage Steele.
  3. I think Carlson is an easy choice to make the team. Even with a healthy Suzuki I felt the bench would be- back up catcher. Shaw, Carlson and Conforto. Mo starts at DH.
  4. This isn’t really fair. There is no way an American player can win over some people in this country. If they are all rah rah people look at them as entitled asshats drinking the America kool aid. If they act like it isn’t that big a deal then other rip them for being unpatriotic or losing because they just don’t have the same drive the other countries have, to win. I wanted USA to win. But I am happy for the Venezuela team, as well. It was a fun tournament and USA just couldn’t close the deal. I have no issue with them being disappointed they lost. Venezuela deserved the championship. They beat both, US and Japan. Good for them.
  5. Because Arraez has had a great WBC.
  6. Honestly, there is no reason to answer that question. As you said, there may not be a need for Palencia. So why answer a wherein on his availability if it turns out there was never a spot to use him.
  7. Of course he wants to pitch. And I like him for that. But as Cubs management is concerned, I am not sure I would want him to. Hopefully USA is winning by a lot so no Palencia.
  8. I am going to the game Friday. They had to change it to a night game because Friday it is supposed to be 106.
  9. 7 K’s in 3 innings. He looks very good. Guardian announcers are raving about him.
  10. Thanks guys. I didn’t say I was being rational. I said I am starting to worry. I have had an MRI before and found out results pretty quickly. I would tbink for a professional ballplayers they would be able to have them looked at pretty quickly. Why does it take a day to get results? This is why I am concerned. Maybe irrational. But you also have to realize the Cubs do tend to slow roll bad news. Which, again, concerns me.
  11. I am now “officially” beginning to worry about Seiya. Shouldn’t take that long to get MRI results. You would think they would want to get it done early today. So they should have the results and yet we haven’t heard a thing. Cubs seem to wait as long as possible whenever they have bad news.
  12. My bad. I just read he will be in Az today and just thought that was because he was flying from further away. But as you agreed with, the Cubs won’t say anything until they actually see him and run their own tests.
  13. I understand people’s concerns since the Cubs do trend to slow roll bad news, however, in this case, Seiya didn’t have imaging in Japan and then had to fly to Az. So not hearing anything yet, makes sense. Personally, I think he will just be day to day. Didn’t look like much but Cubs aren’t going to say that until they see him.
  14. Doesn’t look good. That is for sure. But he also might be a guy who takes a while to ramp up. He might be someone who needs spring to get his velo up. Obviously there is food reason to be concerned. But I do think he still could be a useful 4 or 5 in the rotation.
  15. Probably because of how bad the Nats were against left handed pitching, is why Shota is going 3rd.
  16. So cubs. Put them on TV when the NCAA has all their league championship games on. Don’t put them on during the week when there is absolutely nothing else on.
  17. You may love Happ, but you grossly undervalue him. The man has had a WAR of between 3.5-4 the last 4 years. He has been consistently very good. Referring to him as above average and not quite special and then as a very good role player a team needs does not sound like you value him for what he is. Then to further your comments, suggesting “significant” drop off in his productivity doesn’t not sound like someone who likes a player. I get you made a “bold” prediction. But typically predicting someone will go bad is not a sign of love of a player.
  18. Super weird prediction and really hope that doesn’t happen.
  19. Solid pitching line. Any word on velo and if he was using a 3rd pitch?
  20. But the ‘26 draft hasn’t happened yet. Hard to complain about it until it happens. We are talking about the off season to this point.
  21. Actually the topic was complaining about the off season and how it didn’t make the Bears better. So the answer to draft better doesn’t pertain to that discussion. I do agree they need to draft better. But last year they did have a very good draft. Maybe that becomes the norm with a new staff giving input. The only way the off season could have been good is if the Bears did restructure deals. But the FO doesn’t really have control over that if ownership is not willing to do it, or if they are broke. And really all that does it push the money problems down the road to, possibly, when they have to work on a contract for Caleb. So all Poles can do is work with what he has. And while I am not happy about not getting a major upgrade anywhere, I do think they got guys they, at least, feel are better than what they had. With the price of what guys they lost went for, if the Bears really wanted them they could have had them. So they must think they upgraded, defensively.
  22. Of late, the Bears draft was voted the best in the NFL. And the discussion was about the off season.
  23. Doesn’t restructuring deals just kick the can down the road for payroll issues later? Like when they need to sign Caleb and Rome, Loveland and Burden. Besides that, the FO doesn’t control the purse strings. So if the bears are broke or simply the McCaskey’s don’t want to spend the money, really what can Piles do?
  24. But how were they going to add anyone substantial in FA with being so close to the cap. They had to trade Moore just to clear some money. Had to let Edmunds go to create more. And even then, they couldn’t add top guys like Hendrickson or the center from Baltimore. Honestly, you are down on what they did, but what could they have done? Brought the gang back? I think they are better right now than they were last year at this same time. Between guys possibly staying healthy and others taking the next step, this is a good team. I agree with you that the schedule will be harder next year. I also agree they won a few games last year where they got lucky. I also agree you can’t count on the draft to fill holes like it did last year. But really what could they have done?🤷 It will be hard to win 11 games again next year. But this FA period wouldn’t change that, regardless of what they did.
  25. With the contracts the guys leaving are signing, I don’t believe the Bears would agree with you on getting worse at positions. They very well could have kept both safeties had they wanted to, and they could have kept Wright. I think the LB they brought in is better than the one they let go. They are worse on the line but that is because of an injury ending Ozzy’s year and an unexpected retirement. And actually IF Jones and the other tackle they brought in are healthy I am not sure they are worse at tackle. Plus they have a draft to improve. They are better right now then they were last year at this time. And Caleb, Loveland and Burden should all improve. I am not too worried about them losing guys from the defense last year, considering it was bad. Maybe, or probably, the defense will be better by replacing those guys and hopefully having more health this year.
