  1. Well there you go. You are all right and I am wrong. He can’t do it. Might as well trade him or count on him as a DH. I am done with this conversation until the start of rhe season. Still don’t want Chapman. Maybe a trade for a 3rd baseman.
  2. It’s his job. And he is good at it. Annoying, but good.
  3. I agree with this. I should have said starting when he gets back they will work with him. And I agree if he can’t do it they need to go one way, and if he can they go another. Which is what you are saying. They may need to know before actual “spring”. That said, I don’t think him making 4 errors is any more relevant in an argument to suggest he can’t do it, then had he only made 2 errors would have been proof that he can.
  4. I know my opinion is the minority opinion here, and I am fine with that. Majority has been wrong several times. In this case maybe they are right, and Morel can’t handle third. That said, I highly doubt Morel’s fielding percentage in 18 games is going to sway the Cubs thoughts. There is so much else that goes into how a guy looks at 3rd. Maybe he made 2 errors in the first few games and corrected his mistakes. Has he made one less error his fielding percentage would be fine. Maybe me threw a ball away after making a stop on a ball most guys don’t even get to. We don’t know. But, again, his fielding percentage is pretty irrelevant since we know nothing else. IMO they will give him the spring to see if he can handle it. If he can, great, they have a 3rd baseman. If he can’t he is either traded or we have a DH.
  5. Completely agree. This idea of prospects coming up and filling spots is just not realistic. Sure you need a few guys to come up and be successful. But for a team like the Cubs, a high revenue team, they need a balance of quality major league ballplayers and some young talent sprinkled in. The idea of beinging up all the young guys or leaving openings for all the young guys is great for lower revenue teams who have no other choice. If the Cubs did trade PCA+ for Luzardo or someone like that, and then signed Bellinger that would be great use of a prospect. You fill a need on the major league team. They have many guys who would be top 10 prospects in other organizations who are 15-30 on the Cubs. They could use those as well as guys like Wesneski,, Assad, and even Wicks to trade for guys like Naylor, Bieber, Lowe, Torres, Polanco, Alonso, etc…. I realize in this list some guys may not be available and some might cost a bit more (maybe a top 10 guy). But they can fill 2 bats, 2 starting pitcher, and a pen arm with FA spending and deals. And still have a decent farm system. They would still have most of their top 10. That is the way a major revenue team should use their money and assets.
  6. If the Marlins were considering Pasquintino, I have to think PCA and Wesneski could give them a better package. Or Mervis instead of Wesneski if they would rather have a bat prospect.
  7. WOW, I didn’t even think of that. I just assumed a day off.
  8. I think he was solid. Not great, but not bad either. I think a lot of people tend to complain about moves he made based on the result. There are just so many 50/50 decisions in baseball. And whenever he did something half the fans didn’t like they would speak out about it if it didn’t work. If he was right, nothing was said. And those that did agree, if it didn’t work there were not saying anything but they also weren’t defending him. I think that is just the way it is with managers. I am sure people are going to be complaining about Counsell in short order.
  9. At the risk of biitner’s snarky comment I have to tell you, you are 100% correct.
  10. And you post nonsensical comments ad nauseum.
  11. Exactly. If they can add 2 bats and still have Morel they have pretty deep line up. Even better if the second bat doesn’t have to be a 3rd baseman. Get a first baseman and another bat. Period. And tbh, none of us knows the plan for Morel anymore than we know the plan for specific players this off season. It is all guesswork.
  12. What is wrong with you?
  13. This is not true. Morel is way more valuable than what the Rays got from the Dodgers.
  14. That’s valid. Not going to get into the Morel debate again I totally understand your position on this. Guess we will wait until we see what the team looks like. Maybe instead of Chapman it ends up Polanco. Less years committed. That is ok too. Maybe a bigger deal and it is Lowe. Again, less years committed. I just don’t want them picking Chapman over Haskins/Naylor strictly because they don’t have other options for 3rd base. BTW, very similar doubts were here last year when the Cubs talked about working Madrigal at 3rd. Defensively that worked out pretty well.
  15. They can do both. Maybe they are waiting on reports of Morel at 3rd. Or still deciding on him there. If is can handle it Hoskins and Naylor can co-exist.
  16. I problem. I only noticed because I have run very similar scenarios to what you did and I neve had Madrigal In the line up. I think we all pretty much agree they need 2 bats and 1 needs to hit from the left side. At least one starting pitcher(preferably 2) and at least one pen arm. Bats are among guys like Naylor, Polanco, Bellinger, Lowe, Chapman, Hoskins, Belt, Alonso, Torres, JD Martinez to name a few. Pitcher via trade is most likely Bieber. But Cease would be nice. And then there are several young arms as well. Via FA I would hope they are looking more towards Imanaga, Montgomery and Snell. I realize some of these guys aren’t even abailable. Just doing best guess as to who could be had. There is also Bichette, Tucker, Vlad, Bergman crazy talk too.
  17. I think you mean Hoerner, not Madrigal. And that same scenerio could work with Hoskins instead of Chapman, if the Cubs think Morel can handle 3rd. Instead of Chapman at 3rd and Morel at DH, Morel can play 3rd and Hoskins primarily DH. I believe Morel is playing 3rd most days now. Maybe that could be his home.
  18. I am fine with the Cubs not getting Bellinger. But is they don’t they have to make a trade for a solid left handed bat. There are none in free agency. Basically they would need to make a trade for Naylor. And then they would need another bat. So either Hoskins or Chapman as a free agent or trade for Alonso. If the Cubs feel Morel can handle third base Hoskins would be my choice. If not, sign Chapman and let Morel DH, or make, yet, another trade for someone like Torres, Lowe or Polanco and let them play 3rd and Morel DH. If they were able to get Naylor and Bieber without using PCA, which they should be able to do, at least they would have a decent line up. Add another staring pitcher via free agency and a pen arm and you have a solid high 80’s to low 90’s win team. They have enough in the system to make any of those deals. And they would still have a decent system. Guys like Bieber, Alonso, Polanco, and even Torres shouldnt be too expensive because this is the last year of their contracts. If they don’t want to block prospects and Morel can’t handle third, maybe a trade is bettter than Chapman.
  19. I know everyone is upset and pissed about what has been happening. But if they do as 1908 suggested and get Bieber in a trade, sign a solid starting pitcher as well as a pen arm and Hoskins and Bellinger they actually will have a good team who would most likely be the favorite in the central with a expected win total of 87-90 wins. It is a far cry from what I wanted them to do, but they will be good. I guess Bellinger would play all outfield positions and first base. If Morel can actually handle 3rd and PCA is at least not terrible with the bat they have a chance to be better than a 90 win team.
  20. Sadly this is probably right. The only reason I would think they might stay in on Imanaga is because the others you mentioned come with the QO penalty. They might want to aboud that. If not Imanaga, sadly Wacha might be their target. No QO.
  21. Not someone the Cubs should be interested in anyway.
  22. What is the rotation. Switch Hader for Imanaga or Montgomery or Clase for Bibee or Allen and at least you added a starting pitcher. If Morel can handle 3rd that might be enough, tbh. DH rotates between Bellinger, Happ, Suzuki and Naylor. PCA stays in center. Bellinger plays all outfield positions as well as some first base.
  23. Dave Smith came over in 91, so after Dawson signed. And he was at the end of his career. Was not a big FA signing.
  24. Jacque Jones? Not sure there was a Jacque Vaughn. Also, no idea who this guy from Houston was before Dawson. It was not Mike Scott.
  25. Way more detailed and thought out response than me. But the result is the same. YUCK!!!! Hope it is bs.
