  1. Fair. But elite offenses don’t have trouble with many #4 starters. And that’s what he is. And not getting low strikes is never going to be good for him.
  2. Exactly. And with Hendricks even when he was really good, he has a run of 2-4 bad starts in a row.
  3. It’s the Dodgers.. And the umpire is not giving the low strike. Hendricks absolutely needs that part of the plate. And you need some good plays to hold down the dodgers. I don’t think he did as bad as the final numbers showed. He has very shotty defense easily and threw way too many pitches to get out of the first, that should have been much easier.
  4. It would shock me if Hendricks ended up in the pen except for an extreme emergency situation. And in fairness to Hendricks he should have been through 4 with no runs allowed and probably 60 to 65 pitches. His defense didn’t help him. He got into trouble the 3rd time around. And, this is the dodgers.
  5. They gave up Ferris for Busch. I think Hertz was traded for Candelario, but I am not sure. And while I don’t mind the trade and actually like it more than not, let’s not anoint Busch as prime Carpenter just yet. Aa I said, I am fine with the deal, but I do understand those who might have been high on Ferris.
  6. I think that was more about giving Canario a few starts in center. Let him play there a little. If/when PCA comes up I suspect he will play 99% of the time in center.
  7. It is also likely a few won’t reach their full potential.
  8. I was thinking the same thing. Maybe not yet. And maybe Almonte straightens out, But they will move around the last few spots in the pen at some point during the year. So glad to maybe have Edwards back.
  9. Thanks for the effort. Nicely done😀 Have to admit, I wouldn’t mind if he turned into someone like Dunning or Bassitt. Guess we can hope there is at least something to the art of pitching out of jams….. But, bottom line is even at a low 4 era he is valuable as a low cost starting pitcher.
  10. Its actually not way more innings than I thought. I was not making an arfuement for Assad. I was asking an honest question about when we can start to expect the results we are seeing are real. Thank you for answering that. Actually I would have guessed around that amount of innings. I also agree with you that even if he did eventually level into his xFIP he would still be a useful BOR starter. And if he outperforms even by 5-10% he is even a decent #4.
  11. I have to tell you biittner, I was around in those days and so not recall the Cardenal story. I also never thought Bonham was so liked my management and disliked by the team. Guess you were way more locked in to the team politics then I was back when w me were both early teenagers.
  12. Honestly, I don’t know. I agree he can’t live on the edge like he has so far. But then again, his era with 83.8 LOB% is 2.82, as you pointed out. If it did drop to 74.8%, like Hendricks, would his era be closer to 3.50? Still better than the xFIP number. And, I am not arguing Assad, per se. I am asking a question as to when does his actual results dictate what a pitcher is, instead of his expected results. Hendricks is a perfect example. He has generally gotten better results than what he is expected Baseball is so into dissecting everything, do they break a pitchers pitch down based on bases empty, man on, man in scoring position, etc? Is it possible some guys actually focus better with men on base. Some guys have a way of bearing down and making better pitches while others falter in tough spots? Is it maybe not just luck some guys can pitch out of jams better than others? Again, if they do it a long time(Hendricks) is it really luck? Again, this is not arguing. This is an honest question about when results should be used versus expected results. And I know it is too soon for Assad.
  13. So how long does a guy have to post and era in the low to mid 3’s to actually be considered better than what xFIP suggest he is? Keep in mind, I know Assad hasn’t done anything long enough to justify suggesting what he has done so far is more luck than him actually being as good as he has been. I am just asking because it does seem some guys just get better actual results than expected results and I am curious when a player eventually gets judged on his actual results .
  14. And Madrigal played 3rd yesterday. So Chuck didn’t even test Morel.
  15. I think he will go one, but you might be right and he goes a few. If he does go to something like 30 pitches I wouldn’t be shocked if either him or Cuas got sent down to get a fresh arm for the pen. Both of those guys would be down a few days.
  16. I think they will do all they can to play this one today. Tomorrow doesn’t look muc better until late afternoon/evening. I am pretty sure they don’t want Colorado playing a night game in Chicago on Thursday and then OD in Colorado on Friday.
  17. This kind of my point. I know they are going to give Morel a longer leash. But I also know they are not committing full stop to him either. If they were I imagine they would have talked to JDM or Belt and brought them in to DH. As it is now I am sure they want Morel to handle third so they can rotate outfielder into the DH spot to give them a half day rest. But right now he doesn’t appear to be handling it well. Maybe in a few weeks we will look back and see he has improved. But if not, there isn’t some great drop in offense if you start Madrigal at 3rd and DH Morel as opposed to Morel at 3rd and Tauchman in the line up. There really isn’t a bat that has to play on the bench.
  18. I actually have been very encouraged by his AB, tbh. Lots of hard contact. Just not finding spots. And he has a good eye and appears to have good baseball IQ.
  19. Didn’t you say you were done with this a few posts back. Why not just be done with this. We all know what was said. Honestly, you have a right to any thought you have but just own it. Not a big deal. It is a bad hot take on your part. But not the first time you or anyone else had one. Go Cubs
  20. Honestly, whatever you say. You are the best at spinning your comments. And since I am the other poster suggesting Morel will most likely end up at DH, I will own that comment. Unlike you! I will also add I was one of Morel’s biggest supporters of playing 3rd. I will still say it is far more likely Morel becomes a semi regular DH this year than it is we will see Mervis again. My comment is based on the first 3 games this year and spring training. I would love if he could play it. But right now he can’t. And for him to play 3rd so Tauchman can be in the line up over Wisdom or Madrigal isn’t really helping the team. If they had a big bat who had to DH, I can see them sticking with Morel longer. And I realize they will stick with him longer. But using your words, I have a feeling we will see a lot of Morel at DH, before seeing Mercis (barring injuries)
  21. Not really. It is you moving the goal post on your original comment. Suggesting you have a feeling we would see Mervis again in response to someone who said they hope Busch can hit is absolutely commenting negatively towards Busch. And you made the statement after 4 games in which he actually has shown good plate disapline and hit the ball hard.
  22. Any chance they send Cuas or Little down and bring up someone to start? (Maybe Wesneski).
