  1. I like the Schmidt idea. He slots ahead of Tailon. Bellinger and a higher end prospect for Schmidt works for me. Then trade for Tucker and worry about a pen arm later.
  2. Also very true.
  3. And the Yankees have a lot of starting pitchers.
  4. Shaw doesn’t feel like a fit IF they sign Bregman. But I agree their outfield could use work too if Tucker is traded. So maybe Alcantara or Cassie instead.
  5. So is this assuming they don’t sign Bregman If he did come back to the Astros that would cover a corner. Regardless of the cost, the Cubs could fill their needs. All depends on if Jed is willing to move that is needed.
  6. I’m hoping for plan B. Not sure who the pitcher is, but on the hitting side I hope it is a Tucker. And I think it is possible.
  7. Hard not to think that way, tbh. But it does feel a little different this year than years past. At least we hear a lot about Cubs options. Years past we would be complaining right now about Jed not doing anything. But with prior years of Jed not being aggressive I am in the “I will believe it when I see it” mode. Just hopeful I am it disappointed again.
  8. I saw that too. In order to take part in the rule 5 draft they have to be under 40 guys.
  9. I know. I reread your statement. I still disagree. I don’t think the roster is a mess. I think they have a lot of good, not great players. I think a couple of moves and they can be a very good team. There is enough money to spend and prospects to trade to make that happen. Now, what I am it sure of is if Jed can make it happen. I am very encouraged that Jed and Carter are seemingly involved in so many options.
  10. I thought Shaw because of the Crawford Boxes. I like your options better.
  11. So Cassie? Alcantara? We can always give them Bellinger😬 too. Just curious as to what a haul would look like for them. Cassie, Birdsell+?
  12. I would think Shaw has to be in the deal. He seems like a guy the Astros would want. But what else goes. He suggested prospect haul.
  13. I hope you are right. Love to see a bat like Tucker and/or an arm like Crochet added to the team.
  14. That is possible. But I think at the very least the Cubs will come away with Kelly and a starting pitcher. Maybe also a pen arm.
  15. I don’t feel it needs to be a 3 team deal. Maybe 2 separate deals for the Cubs. One to get Tucker and another to trade Bellinger to the Yankees.
  16. If the Cubs are adding a pitcher it will have to be a trade or a risky lower end starter signing. Money is crazy for FA. This contract makes Castillo more desirable. Edit: did not see the post above before mentioning Castillo.
  17. Ok, after rereading I do not feel the Cubs roster is a mess. They need to make a few moves and they are a 90 win team. They have enough money to spend and still be under the LT, and enough prospects to trade for major league talent to become that 90 win team. IMO the Cubs have a lot of good players, not average and not great. I am glad to see Jed is mentioned on several players. They don’t have a definite direction on how to make the team better. But it appears they are at least setting themselves up to be able to go with plan A, plan B or plan C and pivot based on what comes available. I get that looks directionless because you are at the mercy of other teams when talking trades. But I like that better than not heading anything about the Cubs.
  18. Agreed. I doubt that is what Hoyer does. I don’t have a problem with him being involved in a lot of scenarios. The plan should be to make the team better. There might be several different scenarios to make that happen. I like the fact he appears to be active this off season better than what he did the last few(wait for a player to drop to him and sign that player) But, I agree trading 2 of your best hitters without an obvious replacement would not be a good plan.
  19. I don’t agree that Hoyer is a mess. He is exploring avenues to improve the team. He is involved in several scenarios. He should be. In years past he was criticized for sitting in his hands and now this year because the Cubs come up in several scenarios you are suggesting he is a mess. No matter what he does he gets criticized. Personally I am glad to hear the Cubs are involved in many things. I do worry about him actually making the right move. But right now I wouldn’t call him a mess.
  20. Now that Fried is in NY, love to check in on Schmidt. Bellinger plus a prospect? Alcantara/Triantos? Anyone else need to be added? Maybe another young guy outside the top 15? Bellinger is costly, but I don’t think the Yankees would consider him as negative value. If they did, leave Bellinger out of the deal and just trade prospects for Schmidt. Personally I think Bellinger is a perfect fit in NY. Could very well play to his contract there, IMO. He could play center and/or first. With that short right field he would probably hit 30 homers.
  21. That will work. Now all Jed needs to do is make it happen.
  22. If Crochet is the pitcher who also comes in I would choose Bellinger and Hoerner out and Lowe in. Maybe then sign a cheaper right handed bat for the bench/spot start.
  23. What does this mean?
  24. Really don’t like hearing Suzuki brought up on trades. I think it kills any chance at Sasaki (if they actually do have a chance) and gets rid of their best hitter. I think you get what you can for Bellinger and let Seiya play some outfield next year. Even if they do get Tucker, they can still get Seiya in the infield half the time.
  25. Yep, considering so many expecte big things at these meeting, they seem just like every other year
