  1. I get that. But I am sure the Astros made him aware he was being talked about in a trade. He had to know it was possible. I respect he negotiated the right to decide if he will accept a trade or not. And whatever he decides is fine. It is HIS decision. But not deciding is what is annoying. I’m not even suggesting the Cubs should put a time where they pull the deal. I am just strictly speaking about a player making a decision and how it shouldn’t take this long.
  2. So how long is reasonable for a player to decide it he wants to stay where he is or if he is willing to play somewhere else? Pressley had to know he was being talked about in trades. He earned or negotiated the right to accept or deny a trade. But shouldn’t he know by now what he wants to do? Maybe being older and remembering when players didn’t have the rights they have now or weren’t paid anywhere near what guys are paid now makes me less patient with players of today. But as far as I am concerned Pressley is taking way too long to decide. If his family doesn’t want to move, stay. He earned that right. If he wants to close and maybe make more money on his next contract accept the trades. Either way has it merits. But make a fricken decision.
  3. If you are saying he makes one offer and then doesn’t talk to others and know about what it takes to make something else happen, I disagree. And I sure hope that isn’t the case. I believe while Pressley is deciding he is talking to Robertson ,Stanek and others….. If he is also looking for an infield bat he is talking to guys like Moncada, Dejong, and others. Maybe even discussing a trade for that bat. Same with the outfield. He has to have an idea of cost of either Canhu, Bader, Grichik or Joe. Maybe even offer into any of those guys at any of those positions while he waits on Pressley. I do agree he has to balance the spending.(per ownership) But that cannot mean he doesn’t have several things going at once.
  4. Jim Hickman and Keith Moreland for left and right 100 rbi season.
  5. This is true. Maybe they give him whatever he needs as long as they are still pursuing other players. But as soon as something else becomes a reality, if he hasn’t decided, they need to either get an answer or make the other move. As long as he isn’t holding anything up, I guess it is ok.
  6. I used Rizzo for left field AS and Baez AS right field. Both .04%. Each played at least one inning there.
  7. I think a week is very generous. I would say by the end of the weekend, until they have another deal ready to go. Whichever came first. Can’t sit around and wait to see if he wants to come or not.
  8. I came in at a total of 2 today. Been playing long time so you start to remember a lot of facts you can use later. Used 7 Cubs in my grid.
  9. I would like to see both as well. Just not sure what they have in this imaginary break even budget. I would hope enough to add at least one more decent bat to the bench. If they are working with $33M and total cost of Pressley and Robertson comes to $23M, they still have room. But if Nightengale is right and they are going to take a cut more substantial than just going $7M short of the LT line they may not have that much money. Bench may end up what it is now. I am not sure that’s a good bench. If they can’t go to the line, I would rather they spend the Robertson money on a good bench bat.
  10. If the trade doesn’t cost you any assets, and it shouldn’t, I might still do it. Maybe a second year guaranteed if he reaches some goals? Maybe Astros kick in some money if there has to be a second year added. I think there are scenarios where I would be ok with a second year.
  11. Are you saying because of the budget or playing time? If it is budget, I agree. But it would be awesome if both could stay. Shaw can just go back to AAA. That is the best Cubs team possible. Too bad our ownership is small market.
  12. I am sure he will try to use the NTC as leverage for something more. Not sure he will get it though. The sweetener should be he gets to close. If he does well he makes more money next year than he does if he stays in Houston.
  13. I agree. But the report on the mystery team was it was a team “out west”, which to me speaks geographically, not division. Who knows. For once I am going to agree with Chibear. Wake me up when something is done and official😅
  14. Not “likely” to see if he is worth a one year deal. More like STRICKLY” to see if he is worth a one year deal. And that can be said for all the teams watching him.
  15. I thought they were done spending. I also didn’t think of them as a west team. But you are correct, they are. Guess we will have to wait and see. Wouldn’t shock me if the Cubs didn’t get him or Robertson.
  16. Supposed to be a west coast team. Pressley said he doesn’t want to go east or west. So should be Chicago. 🤷
  17. Considering the Cubs don’t have either Pressley or Robertson right now, we very well may be talking about a scenerio that never takes place. Let’s hope we get at least one of them today. The Pressley report may have been premature. And just because the Cubs are supposed to be talking to Robertson doesn’t mean that happens either. We have been down this road this off season, all too often.
  18. I think it is Pressley OR Robertson, not AND. I don’t see them spending $20M to $25M on 2 pen arms. But if they did I am not sure how much they have to spend for a bench bat.
  19. I think if it was Canario the Cubs would then sign a better outfield bench bat. I have no issues with Canario and Thompson being gone. And there are a few more I am not worried about too. I think with Thielbar and Little, Rob Z can go too.
  20. Who do you worry about giving up? They aren’t going to give up any assets. A guy they would dfa to add another player to the 40 man roster is, by definition, not an asset. The fact they would dfa him suggests this. I agree they shouldn’t give much up for one year of Pressley at $14M. Pretty sure they aren’t. And if they have to sweeten the deal by adding a second year they will give up even less, or the Astros will pitch in some. I have to think Jed and the FO knew Pressley would want some kind of sweetener. Most guys who have a NTC use that as leverage. If both teams have a deal in place, unless Pressley absolutely does not want to come to Chicago, it will be worked out.
  21. Him not waiving the NTC.
  22. At this point, no. But maybe the Astros kick in totaling $5M for the two years? Something like that. And if not, still get the deal done.
  23. This would suck.
  24. Another reliever after Pressley? I think they are done with pen arms, but who knows🤷. But they might and should add another bat or two. So with Pressley, Berti and at least one more addition, I think guys like Thompson and Canario are definitely dfa candidates.
  25. I think I would rather the Cubs take the entire contract and give little up. Not like they are using that money anyway. Give them back Canario or Thompson. Someone they have to take off the 40 man for Pressley, Berti or any other late addition they plan on acquiring. Even with the $14M they still have another $16M to $18M for 2 bench bats.
