Well, we all knew this day was coming eventually. But Cam Smith looks like he's becoming one of the best outfielders in the game and a cornerstone. I don't blame Jed for that trade. He wouldn't be the current GM if the Cubs missed the playoffs last year. I just wish they pulled that trade off without including Smith. The Cubs are a middle of the order bat away from being truly elite.

5 of the 6 home runs this season have been by Happ and Bregman so far. It would be nice to see someone else step up today, like PCA and Busch.

I understand the reasoning why they made the move - they were desperate to get a cost controlled, talented guy that has upside, which allowed them to use that money in free agency. I guess I'm just not as optimistic about that particular move as I am some of the other moves they've made. It's too early to tell for sure.

Cabrera has only 1 season where he's pitched over 100 IP, he will never be a workhorse guy that can log 180 IP or 200 IP in a season. Essentially, they are gambling on him being elite elite for the 5 innings that he will pitch every 5 days. He's got great stuff but the results haven't been there consistently, and he's a constant durability concern. He's prime Sonny Gray on his best day and more like Javier Assad on his worst. Heck of a price tag for a 27 year old who hasn't figured it out yet.

I really wanted Sandy Alcantara instead of Cabrera. IMO, he's one of the best pitchers in the game when healthy and the Cubs could have had him at a discount. And he threw 7 scoreless innings in his debut. Cabrera better deliver because that was a high risk move.

I know people here don't love him but I'd take Zac Gallen over Shota in a heart beat for the same contract (1 year, 22 mill). I'm surprised the Cubs brought him back but hopefully it turns out to be a good decision
