so your response to my statement of “I want a guy that wins silver sluggers and not gold gloves” is to endlessly advocate for a guy who has never won one before and frankly will never win one in his entire career because he isn’t a talented enough hitter. lol. We know this is a good offense but there is an obvious need for more slug and only a few positions where there isn’t already a long term commitment. The guy is a good player, he isn’t a star and folks should stop pretending that he is. He is serviceable, sometimes very good. That is it. Hardly somebody that should have a full no trade clause or someone that can’t be considered for an upgrade. It doesn’t mean we are dogging on him. But after 10 years it’s time to have conversations about the future in LF.

The dream for me would be Corbin Carroll, (I acknowledge that it's unrealistic). But if I'm Jed I'm calling the D-Backs and offering them any 3-4 top prospects they want from the minor league level. horsefeathers I'd even be willing to move off of a major league piece to get a guy like that - Ben Brown +.

My take on this is: His next contract will almost certainly be his last opportunity for a major pay day, given his age, so he's probably going to want a 5 year deal like Bregman got this year. Are the Cubs prepared to make a 5 year/100 to 110 million $ commitment to him? He will almost certainly get it from someone. Seems like the Yankees have loved Happ forever and wouldn't surprise me if the Angels and Mets are also interested. Do the Cubs want to get into a bidding war with other big market teams for Ian Happ on a 4-5 year deal that could run over 100m? So is he "worth" an extension? For another team - yes (imo) but for the very unique needs of this team, I personally wouldn't. They have to buck the status quo somehow and assuming they want to keep Suzuki around, LF is probably the only opportunity to find a true elite hitter.

Who's shitting on him? Seems like people are having reasonable conversations about how to improve this ball club and how he fits into future plans as a soon-to-be free agent.

I'm not under valuing him, he's a baller. But his skill set is redundant with many others on this team. And there are only 2 opportunities to improve this lineup in the immediate future, which is the corner outfield positions. Got to give up something to get something greater. This team has like 5 guys that can and probably will win a gold glove. They have 0 that will come close to winning a silver slugger. Need to have balance

That's what I'm hoping for if Mo doesn't turn into that guy. I'm also starting to like the idea of both corner OF positions opening up this off-season. Keep one or the other between Happ/Suzuki and then go all in to get a star caliber outfielder that can slug.

That's true. I'm still very bullish on this team. It's just frustrating to think they are 1 (albeit major) piece away. Hopefully this is a happy trade deadline.

The Cubs have an entire roster of good players, but no superstars in either the rotation or lineup. Kinda not acceptable for a GM in what, his 5th or 6th season.

Imanaga is like the only guy in this rotation I trust right now and the Cubs did everything to get rid of him last off season lol, if the rumors are true that they were blind-sided by him accepting the QO. Happy mistake. Now extend him.

I disagree. Yes they do not directly impact our ability to make the playoffs, but millions of Sox fans hate the Cubs and vice versa. So it is a rivalry. If for no other reason than millions interpret it as such. If the Sox won a WS it would draw a much greater negative reaction from the fanbase than if the Reds or Pirates did. Also I got a bunch of Sox fans in my family. I have no Brewers or Cardinals fans in my family haha.

Very few haha. Those bragging rights are important 😂 IMO, the Cubs Sox rivalry would be much more obvious if both teams were ever +.500 at the same time. I can only remember maybe 2 or 3 seasons out of my entire life watching baseball where both teams were playoff contenders at the same time.

I'm surprised when I see comments like this. The majority of us live in or near the city of Chicago, are we not supposed to take an interest when the 2 Chicago teams play each other? They are absolutely our rivals lol. And I'd bet most Cubs + Sox fans would agree to that. It would piss me off if the White Sox won a WS more than if the Cincinnatti Reds did.

Rea is what he is. An average to below average pitcher who's only starting because of all the injuries. I'm more disappointed the Cubs could only get 2 runs against an equally **** pitcher
