  1. That is true. I was thinking that they'd just go for the full reset and trade away Bregman too, but I can see a scenario where they avoid doing that as their fanbase will revolt.
  2. That would be a great fit IMO. Reasonable price tag and a half season commitment.
  3. You don't think that Bregman will opt out after this year? He's having a career year, he'd have the highest OPS on this team. The Cubs would go from WS contenders to WS favorites if he was in this lineup. Even if he opts in, that's only another 1 or 2 year commitment for one of the best 3B in baseball (I believe he has another player opt out after 26)
  4. I mean I agree with that completely, he still has 'first dibs' on 3B and he should be given every opportunity before they make a trade. But if there isn't some major improvement at the plate in the next month, it should be considered. And sliding Shaw to a pinch hitting/bench role for half a season would strengthen the bench too. Eliminating that as something they need to acquire.
  5. Fair enough, but I disagree completely on the idea that if there isn't a logical, short term upgrade that materializes, they shouldn't consider it.
  6. You can't 'bank' on that happening though. Prospects fail 50% of the time. There is every bit a chance that Shaw keeps playing like crap than suddenly turning on a switch and improving. I'm not even out on him long term, I just don't think the Cubs should roll with Matt Shaw and Berti as their only options at that position. If a guy like Bregman becomes available you do it and pivot off of Shaw. It's WS or bust.
  7. 15-9 early in the season doesn't make them a "contending team" and when PCA was first called up, he wasn't playing every day. If I recall he was playing only vs lefties and in controlled situations. They didn't just throw him out there everyday like they are throwing Shaw out there and expecting him to figure it out, at least not until halfway through the season
  8. I personally always thought that PCA was underrated in those prospect ratings, but whatever. My point is that there is a real scenario where Shaw is a sub .600 OPS guy going into August, do you really want to give him premier ABs against elite starting pitching in the playoffs because he's a rookie and these are just "growing pains" This team is ready to win now. Every AB matters.
  9. Squally also doesn't take into account that the circumstances are different this year. The Cubs had nothing to lose by letting PCA play every day last year despite some struggles, they weren't competing for anything. They have a chance to win the WS this year. I don't want the Cubs to lose a playoff game because of Matt Shaw being a blackhole on offense.
  10. Shaw isn't in the same stratosphere as PCA as a prospect. If that's the type of improvement you are expecting from him, you will be disappointed. He'd probably already be on a bus back to Iowa if the Cubs had any viable option at 3b besides him
  11. that's why Dansby is awesome, despite his Darwin Barney like ABs
  12. It's crazy how much he's improved year over year. They have a well rounded team, wouldn't surprise me to see them make some noise in the playoffs
  13. Offense has been great, but I agree with the sentiment that the Cubs should explore a guy at 3B that can slide into that #5 spot and move Swanson down. This is a special offense, now go for the kill.
  14. the last few games, the Cubs are finally getting umps that can call a game behind the plate, and it isn't a default strike if it's 3 inches outside of the zone. More of this, please
  15. haha I was exaggerating a bit. But he is on an absolute tear. I came into today knowing he'd get a HR. He could end up with 50 HR this year
  16. Well, we all knew this would happen eventually but Cam Smith is shaping up to be a really good big leaguer with a chance to be great. The Cubs better find a way to keep Tucker otherwise that one will sting for a while
  17. Would the Cubs have interest in Bregman? That is a fat fat contract but they were apparently interested in him before the season started
  18. If the Cubs end up losing, it'll be hard not to blame Cabrera and hopefully he gets DFA'd. If they put in anybody else in that 5th inning or even kept Jamo in, this game would be different
  19. If they were going to sub out Kelly for McGuire then why not just let the lefty get the AB
