It was an example given with a direct quote. Whether you believe Scott Boras or not is one thing. I highly doubt anything like that is the deciding factor. The fact that it was mentioned at all shows that players take notice of it though.

Having followed along maybe he worded it that way in his initial Harper post, - but soon clarified that as well - but I never took it to mean that was the implication for Ohtani. At all. Just seems like you wanted to overreact to something today.

Yeah, what I meant was I don’t really want Moncada if Ohtani happens. He feels like a huge waste of what will be limited resources at that point. Assuming, Ohtani doesn’t happen, I’d love to do all in on Yamamoto due to him being a money purchase and not involving prospects at all. Im just having a hard time convincing myself to throw the money away on Moncada for the year. Also, because I feel like the Sox see Cease as one of their bigger pieces and I’m not sure they’ll want to anchor his trade value with a bad contract.

It felt like with some of his gif replies to people he was almost alluding to knowing something. Having said that, I think he might just want attention 🤣

I don’t know, Moncada is pretty expensive for how meh-to-sucky he’s been. If Ohtani doesn’t work I’d rather just go all in on Yamamoto and trade for a 3rd baseman.

Wow, that’s blown way out of proportion. The thought was simply made that it might be something he would consider as a positive about Chicago. No one suggested it was a big deal or something that would factor in heavily. An example from Bryce Harper and Scott Boras was given with a direct quote as well. Quite a bit of mental gymnastics used to actually turn that into an argument.

I’m sad I missed the Roberts saga! I do recall the Peavy stuff on our old board and even specifically remember the “go cubs go” thing! I was so excited that night as I wanted Peavy badly. The letdown on the last day of the winter meetings when Hendry announced they weren’t trading for him…good times! 🤣

Oh I see your points and the last thing I’d want to do is come in as a new poster and start rattling off changes I’d like to see. Again, knowing nothing about how site traffic works either, it’s just been a jarring switch. But I’m a nerd in the sense that if I wasn’t able to stay up to date during the day due to work (or other personal business) I’d simply come home and read from where the thread left off and it was like I was learning about things in real time and watching it play out as it would have happened if I were home. And I miss that idea. I don’t know the answer to be honest. I feel like if this Nola thread were put in the larger mlb forum it wouldn’t have gathered any responses or views. So I guess I’m wondering how putting it in a different portion of the site (where it would gather less traffic) helps the site.

I’ll pay the tab myself if Ohtani agrees to come here 🤣

At times, they strike me as a team the places a little too much value on nostalgia.

Going back to the forum some of us came from there was a mlb forum and then sub forums for each team. Specifically, on the cubs forum, we’d usually have an off-season discussion and trade ideas thread where all the rumors would go and all the other teams signings would go in there as well. Then, if the cubs actually signed someone that might get its own thread but still, the main portion of that discussion would take place in the off-season and trade ideas thread. We had a winter meetings thread as well as traffic would increase at that time. Point being is that the information housed in one succinct place. This would allow long term conversations to happen and made for easy access to all the days rumors. Often what I would is is just leave the most active thread open and refresh it thought the day, knowing if anything at all happened I wouldn’t miss it that way. Openly admitting I know nothing about site traffic and all that, I must again mention that this way feels clunky and inconvenient. We have the slightest of Ohtani rumors going in their own thread now which to me, is just silly. Nothing is really happening yet but in order to discover the non-updates I have to click and read through three different threads. Again, I’m new here and not trying to force a change on longtime posters. But I can only say for myself, I’d probably be looking to find a different forum if it gets to the point where threads are scattered amongst sub-forums.

Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t gather user feedback and try to improve does it? If you want this site to continue to grow I think hearing from its current members is a good way to go about that.

I, too, don’t get it. We have like four threads in the main cubs forum I have to check throughout the day. That, alone, is unnecessary when there hasn’t been an actual signing or trade for Soto or Ohtani. And now, Id have to go to a different part of the forum to read and reply to something (Nola) I care minimally about anyway? It’s a very weird and clunky way of doing things.

🤣 I’m just faking logic. I spent a part of my morning thinking about how we could fit Ohtani and Yamamoto salary wise on the team and still be add a good rp, and third baseman 🤣
